Great comparison video, thanks. I have a Touratec Adventuro Mod, basically a Schubert E1 with improved ventilation, better peak and a hook on the back for a goggle strap. The helmet also features an integrated sun visor and ratchet style fastener. Nice quiet helmet with high quality internals but a bit in the heavy side. I reckon it is one of the top helmets with a price tag to match that was missing from this comparison.

The Krios Pro, literally, saved my life. Fell off the side of a trail, head first onto a boulder, then flipped onto my back. 11,000 feet. Helivac'd outta the wilderness. Hi Kyle. Thanks for the video, good info and fun unedited. There is one thing that you left out which for me is a big deal. I use the LS to Pioneer and it has an internal drop-down sunvisor which is a great benefit! Do any of the other helmets have that in your list? Also, the LS two visor does not drop down in the wind. You can put it on any of the notch settings and it will stay securely. You can even open it about an eighth of an inch, not on a notch, and it stays open. That’s handy if any fogging happens. Cheers!

@@manybikes I have owned a few Harley and BMW bikes in my day, but not since 2007. I typically rode with a half helmet or no helmet. In 2018, I bought a new Street Scrambler. After a quick spin, I decided riding without a proper helmet was not appealing anymore. So, I bought two Bell Moto 3s and a Daytona Cruiser 3/4 helmet. I thought those helmets would compliment the off-road, retro style of my Street Scrambler. While decent, for me, those helmets fall short on practicality and versatility. For anyone considering the above-noted helmets (in my opinion): The Moto 3 is nice, but when riding with others, talking at red lights is almost impossible, access to your face is limited, and the peak catches the wind over 45 MPH. Also, the only way to shield your eyes is with glasses or goggles. I found that I do not really like wearing goggles for extended periods. Glasses are okay with the Moto 3, but you can not cover your entire face if needed while wearing one. The Daytona Cruiser looks great because of its low profile and retro appearance. Also, it is a great value. I added a flip up visor/shield combo. I love wearing it for short trips, but for longer rides, I like full face coverage. To address the aforementioned issues, I started searching for adventure helmet options, and stumbled across the AT950. I wish I had seen it sooner. It is the perfect solution, as it seems to combine most of the features of my helmets in one tidy package. It looks like a motocross helmet, has three options for face and eye protection, allows access to my face and has an eye port that rivals the Moto 3. I am not sure what other equipment you have reviewed to date, but I think head-to-head reviews of all the typical riding gear would be helpful. Or, maybe other helmets, such as 3/4, half, or motocross style. I know when I searched for helmets, I liked to see them on a person with the size noted and number of shell size options. You basically covered the other stuff. Thanks again.

What a great review, really good to see back to back comparisons like this with real world feedback. Subscribed straight away. I’m looking at the Arai and Kilm Pro, but my head size 58.5cm is right in between both brands large (59-60) and medium (57-58). Ive tried on a friends X4 in large that he’s had for 6 months and it feels to big. You mentioned in previous comments that one of the helmet guys had the same size head as me (I appreciate this is a year ago) but what size would he go for in both? Also I love the colour of the Arai x4, it would go perfect with my Yam T7! I have never seen that in the UK, is that a specific US version?
@manybikes

If I were you, I'd go with the Medium. They will break in ... and become looser fitting. I also have some tricks I will share with you IF you need more room around the edges. The KRIOS Pro is my favorite helmet to date. SUPER light weight and it breathes / vents really well.

Great vid. Really informative. What size cm is your noggin. I’m a 57cm which falls in the medium range. I have a very long oval head-shape. I bought a shoei online about 5 years ago but found it on the larger side. Looking at either arai or the kryos pro. I can’t try them because i order them online internationally and i live in a country where returns are near impossible. Would you advise i stick to the medium or go for a small. Need a new lid but dreading buying one and it not fitting right. I ride an africa twin. Thanks

John Mason Nice! Africa Twins are great. I’m a 54.5 to 55 cm and a small fits me best. I am a long oval and must say the Arai XD4 is the best fitting helmet I’ve ever owned. That being said, it lacks some really nice features I have grown to love. The Krios Pro is a fantastic helmet, but does lack the fit and finish of the Arai. I’d suggest you stick with the medium. Thanks for watching!

Don't know how I missed your comment / inquiry. I am a 55-1/2 cm which puts me smack dab in the middle of most helmet manufacturers Small size... 55 to 56 cm. I am a long oval... but can wear an intermediate pretty well. I am not shaped right for Shoei... but Arai fits me amazingly. I have been wearing the Kiros Pro for about 8 months now and LOVE it... Here is my 1 month review of the Krios Pro helmet: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zq1pY7Gn0aicmGg.html After nearly 50k miles in it I still love the light weight feeling of the helmet and the venting / breathability is remarkable. It is "squishy" inside as compared to my other helmets - but it is comfy. I went with size Small - but should have gone XSmall in retrospect. It's a little loose now that it is VERY broken in... hope this helps if you haven't already pulled the trigger. If you have, what did you go with? Do you like it? Thanks for watching, Kyle

Thanks for watching. Head shape is key. Both are more of an intermediate shape, but my long oval head fits the Krios Pro the best. I’ve tried to wear the Shoei as it’s fit and finish is excellent, better than the Krios Pro. That being said the shape of the helmet didn’t fit me. I went with the Aria XD4 instead. Almost 2 years ago I picked up the Krios Pro and at first wear it “felt cheap” but… it was so light and the transitions shield was a breath of fresh air. Long term, the Krios Pro is the lightest, the most comfortable and best performing ADV helmet I’ve owned. Try both on… you will immediately know which one is for you.

Having worn several of these for a week or more since this was shot... the Krios Pro is my daily go-to. It is MUCH lighter than most of the others and it is so much more vented / water evaporates out of it so much faster. Most other helmets... once the liner is wet... it is wet until the next day. With the Krios Pro... I can take it off for an hour, eat lunch and I can put back on a mostly dry helmet. It's pretty amazing. And with Com and Camera it is still lighter than my Arai XD4... which is my favorite fit and finish wise but it heavy, doesn't vent well, the peak is not removeable and it doesn't have a transitions shield. Wow... that is a lot. No wonder I ride daily in the KLIM ;)

The MX-9 is a nice helmet for the price but the strap is a DEAL BREAKER!! The ring-side is TOO LONG. When you tighten this helmet up, the rings will ride right on the middle of your throat. Worst in when you look down, the D-rings jam into right into your adams apple. Only helmet I've ever wore in 40yrs of riding that actually bruised my throat. Arai and Shoei get the D-ring strap length RIGHT! Saving my bucks for my original 1st choice, the XD-4! Oh, quick tip Kyle... you need to tighten the strap a lot more to really FEEL how the helmet will fit your head.
@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your real world feedback on the MX-9. Yeah, Aria is my Go-To and is the best fitting in my head. I do have to disagree about needing the “helmet strap tight” to feel how a helmer fits. That will let you know how the “strap feels” but the helmet fitment is really at the crown & cheek pad area. I wear my strap so I can easily fit two fingers between the strap and my chin / neck. Now strap placement is KEY. I have had three helmets over the years that I had purchased and the strap placement was so bad I didn’t even test ride the helmet before giving them away. The original Shark, an AFX dirt helmet and a Simpson. All heads and all helmets are different and finding the ones that fit your head is KEY! Thanks for watching!

Excellent review Kyle. I'm currently wearing an M2R MX style (DOT+SNELL) with roll-off goggles. I want a lighter helmet that is quieter and better airflow through the peak. I'm long oval pretty much. My current helmets are Medium: Arai VX Pro 3 dirt helmet, Icon Variant 2010.. Medium, and a Large(had to go large medium was really weird fitting) Fly Carbon Snowmobile helmet. My fly sucks. its DOT/SNELL but I had to go large and i can stick my chin out and hit the front area..etc. My Icon is my favorite fitting helmet ever. Followed by my arai. I think I want a Klim Krios Pro Arsenal, but klim tells me they wont be back in stock until feb 2020...sigh.... Do you think the klim krios pro would fit me in medium? Yes, in some worlds they are measured in Grams. Here in the USA our manufacturers and distributors discuss helmets in pounds and ounces. Even Revzilla uses Pounds and Ounces : "Helmet weights generally run between 3 - 4+ lbs. Helmets between 3 and 3.75lb are considered to be on the lighter end of the spectrum. Weights listed on RevZilla.com are based on Large helmets with all liners included"

DOT is pretty worthless. While it is “mandatory” for US market, it’s pretty RIDICULOUS that labels(brands) are on the ‘honor system’ for test results. That makes the cert absolutely Worthless to me. Snell is ‘good’; but, the European ratings are leaps & bounds above US ratings in terms of efficacy. Actually, if you dig a little, Snell bases their ratings on Hard impacts, whereas a larger number of TBIs occur at lower (intensity) impact. Stick with ECE for Ultimate Safety.
