@@mylanmiller9656 i was alive and driving during this time period. been behind the wheel since 1975. it may have been one of the other shows, but i believe it was dateline that did it. after several failed attempts to film a side impact chevy pickup fire, they faked it using a model rocket engine with an igniter. this is 100% fact! they admitted that they did it. so i am telling you & everyone else, that show faked that fire. do those pickups have an increased risk of fire in a side impact? yeah they do. but there have been other vehicles that have caused people to die, firestone/ford exploders rolling over(mostly owner caused), dodge mini vans with back seats popping out,(mostly caused by the seat not being put back in properly by the owner) pre-65 corvairs rolling over. how many air bag deaths? and there are others. there no such thing as a "safe" vehicle. i knew and still know a lot of people who still own & drive these pickups. i've driven & rode in them alot. i knew one guy that i know had totaled out 11 at least of those pickups. not all were his fault, but some were. his worst accident was in a brand new pickup sitting in traffic with both tanks full. a drunk chick doing about 50~60 mph ran into him on the passenger side. she nailed the bed/cab area, no fire. this was before seat belt laws and it tossed him out the passenger side window. it put him in the hospital for a few days. till the day he died, he drove a square bodied chevy pickups. yeah, life is dangerous. live in fear under your bed and die, or get out there and take some risk and die, either way, you will die.

My parents had the 1977 Dodge pickup with the 318 engine. It got 18 mpg loaded or empty. It was use in my parents store to haul freight. I carried a load of 4800 lbs of animal feed. It handled it with no problems. My Dad would haul a load of produce from Eastern Washington to the west side of the State. It wasn't fancy, but it was a very good work truck.

Ford never manufacturered a Pinto pickup. Also out of the millions of actual Pinto's only 27 fires according to NTSB.
@joegiersher281
@joegiersher281 Ай бұрын
Did anybody ever write anything about these fires over the years that they would have happened? It seems that it took a long time to alert people about this. The Pinto, however, was always a crappy car, and in quite a few different ways. Back in the late '60s, when that Corvair blew up, Ralph Nader was all over that case. Just couldn't keep his mouth shut and made many people view the Corvair as a dangerous and badly designed car. It was far better and more innovative than the Pinto, which he didn't seem to say anything about interestingly. At least not when it first hit the market.
@michaelmartin2276
@michaelmartin2276 Ай бұрын
@@joegiersher281 I couldn't disagree more. The Pinto in its day was a good car. Ford sold several million of them and they were the top selling compact car of the 1970. The number of Pinto's that actually caught fire was far lower than news outlets reported. Look it up. 27 deaths and 24 injuries. Which was a lower % than most other small cars then, like the Vega,Chevette, Maverick and Datsun B210. These are facts easily accessible online.

Ford didn’t build a pickup-truck version of its compact Pinto hatchback. A one-of-a-kind 1980 Ford Pinto pickup is being sold by a collector car dealership. There may have been a few other custom Pintero's built but NOT a pickup of the 70's! While the 2.8L Cologne V6 was available in the Pinto, neither the Diesel engine shown at 0:55 nor the 2.8 liter GM V6 shown at 0:57 were ever available in the FORD Pinto.

I never had any interest in the foreign pickups, but I'd rather have any of the 4×4 versions of the pickup trucks from the 70s over any new truck. Hard to beat a big block Powerwagon. This video is full of $hit. The only people who got a Little Red Express truck with a 440 were a handful of Executives from Chrysler. The production model only had a 360.

The chevy Luv , the Mazda rotory along with the Ford courier were the worst , junky trucks imported into the USA in the 70s . However , making points about cars as trucks ... such as US cars with the bed such as the GMC Caballero isn't exactly fair as these vehicals were a Sport vehical with car like ride and able to haul a load if needed . They were not trucks . For the record, The Jeep J10 and J20 now are very popular with restores and Jeep enthusiasts in many countries , also built in Argentina under IKA . Good video , but not really trucks Noone wants anymore as the video click baits

Where is the 1970 pickup that is featured in this video that is Istope Lemon green which is the color from the 2001 VW? We built that pickup from the ground up. We took it all apart sanded, painted and had the interior done. We rebuilt the motor too. No one could miss the pickup because of the color but it was a fun pickup to have. Just wondering where you had found that truck. We wish we had never sold it.

Not ever seeing a pinto pickup that would be my first choice. I'd bet I would be the only person in my town to have one, while you couldn't haul much hay on the back I think it would be a pretty cool grocery getter on the weekends.
