That's the way my wife and I got started...2 and 3 day trips on the Allegheny River. Loved it. Graduated to 1 to 1 1/2 week trips in Canada. It's tough to beat those kinda vacations.

I agree would Love to do a long one like that. I’m looking for a better canoe now for that type of thing.

I have never been able to start a fire with a bow, but the Ferro-rod never fails. You guys ate well. Nice trip, the dogs did well. Our last canoe camping trip was with two 80 pound labs, we camped on an island and red squirrels raided our food box and ate most of our provisions while we were fishing. Luckily the lake was loaded with jumbo perch and we ate perch for 6 meals. Good times.

What kind of canoe did you use we will be getting a large dog soon and I’m not sure we will be able to take all three with us. Any advice?

Hey Kirk, it was a 17 ft Mohawk, not sure of the model but was of a royalex construction ( ABS / foam / ABS ) nearly indestructible, however without a keel it was not the most stable. Have had that canoe for over 30 years , it’s been folded in half around a rock when a buddy borrowed it and dumped it in a a fast moving river at flood stage, snapped the gunnels but when we recovered it she popped right back into shape, replaced the gunnels and still rocking. My boy and his buddies abused it for a dozen whitewater trips finally wearing a hole in the outer shell of ABS which we repaired , and she’s still a reliable workhorse of a canoe. Can’t beat Royalex but she was pretty heavy at about 75 pounds. I would get one with a keel though. Good luck . Don

Would you go with Starlyte or Blacklyte ? Both look like excellent choices depending on if you need or want the extra durability of the carbon fiber of Blacklyte. Looks like a great boat for the purpose of canoe tripping , river camping etc, very light for its size.
@backinthewoods20224 жыл бұрын
I’m trying to figure out between ixp and blacklyte. Not sure if its better to have extra tough or 20lbs lighter? We don’t go through rapids a lot but once we are more experienced I think we will. We don’t go on lake trips portaging but we may in the future. Not sure yet

It was 3.2 I am checking out the channel now up to part 3 I’m sure that’s the one where you camped there. Hope you guys stopped a little earlier this time to relax a little bit. You guys are eating up the miles so far on the first two videos. Glad you commented so I found the channel👍 Subscribed. Look me up for the next adventure.

Please get a life preserver for the dogs. Get the kind that has a handle that runs along their back. If they fall in the water you can just pick them up.
@backinthewoods20224 жыл бұрын
I will have to check those out. I got a little nervous there in the rapids. Good advice👍
