I have been able to get up that steep hill every time last year and this year, except for a very few rare occasions - like this one. However, I think I may have to further consider getting a set to keep in the shed for days such as this one. The other option was that I probably could have used the box blade and scratched up the ice a bit to get traction. I was lucky Guy was around to help me up that day so all good. @@GPOutdoors I second putting the chains on the front. Two big reasons come to mind. One being they will be much lighter and easier to install and besides that they will be cheaper, no worries about fender clearance. And to play devils advocate, if something ever was to break " I think we both know it wont" then it will be cheaper and easier to fix. All the best. Also only chain two tires so you can still have slip to play it safe.

Was going to cut each one smaller and put them on the front. But there was interference with the tie rod. So I went with the back wheel. No interference there. Check on prices for tractor chains. I got my Quad chains from Royal Distributing.

I think you are probably right, so will spend some time over the summer researching options for chains and then decide. Other than the last 2 years , yes, we always get several feet of snow up here. Usually by this time, you would see 4 - 5 feet of snow outside of the cabin. For some reason, the last two years have been more rain and freezing rain, than it has been snow. We are finally getting some good heavy snowfalls over the last 2 weeks. I am more of a summer person too but enjoy the winter too. Thanks for saying hi and for watching. Have a great weekend James!

Good morning Arch and congratulations! You must be pretty excited. I use the rear blade several times in the winter. Usually once in a while to scrape the driveway down to base but only after I know the ground is frozen ( not sure if you have a gravel driveway but if paved, then not to worry). The blower will always leave some snow each time and remember, the skid shoes will ride on top of a hard surface so if you get ice or hard snow build up, the blower will ride over top of it more than it will blow it, so the blade will dig it up so you can blow it away. If you wish, you can watch videos 117, 119, 124 or 127 to see what I mean. At first I didn't know if it was really an implement I needed, but I have used it in the summer to start shaping or contouring the shoulders of the driveway for rain run off, and I think as I get better at using it I can start using it to grade the driveway as well ( in addition to the box blade which is much better for grading). I am sure your dealer has helped you with this but if you get cold temps there, you need to get a block heater installed for sure ( I always plug it in for a good 2 hours before I fire it up in the winter), fill the back tires with fluid and not sure if you have purchased a rear implement but you will always need to have weight on the back of the tractor. Either a ballast box or some heavy rear implement. Also, if you decide to buy a rear blade then I would offer that you get one that is easily able to swing out sideways. The basic model I bought is well built but I have to unbolt the mold board and move it over manually and if I had to do it again, I would definitely get a model that allows it to swing sideways easily ( they usually have a simple pin you pull). Lastly don't forget that when you put that blade on the back, it swings out sideways when you turn while driving ( it doesn't follow you like a car and trailer does). So any time you turn, if you are not careful, you will swing the rear implement into whatever object is beside you ( car, side of house etc). LOL. So sorry for writing a novel, I got a little carried away there. Hope some of it is helpful. Good luck and let me know how it goes! Cheers!

Hey Arch, I live in Wisconsin and have a B2601 too! I've been using my bucket fitted with edge tamers and a rear blade to move most of my snow and have had little to not issues with traction. I have a 1/4 mile long gravel driveway with a 6% grade to the house. Of course when we get large amounts of snow I do have a snow plow guy that clears the main drive because it would take me forever with my small tractor bucket/rear blade. But for snow falls under 7 inches I just use my tractor. I was concerned this year with all the ice build up under the snow causing traction issues on my hills but it really hasn't been a problem. I do not use chains.

Thanks Jeff, That is good information too. I am going to try it without chains first and see how that goes. Do you run fluid in your tires? Sounds like some guys use windshield wiper fluid? The dealer told me that if I end up needing chains to put them on the front tires first & see how that helps with traction. I am looking at the Land Pride RB1660 rear blade (Not sure if it has the quick release that GC is referencing but it looks like a nice scraper blade setup.). We have some areas that are fairly tight on our property & I am trying to keep all my implements at no more than 60" wide & the loader is also 60" wide so when I have the tractor moving straight ahead I can get through tight spaces & between trees when needed...realizing with the front blower & rear blade set-up that both will arc around the tractor making its effective width much wider when turning. Ag treat beats both for traction in mud because their design allows them to clean more easily. But the industrial tread is far superior for longevity and especially in rocky terrain, because there is greater percentage of 'tread thickness' rubber greatly minimizing the potential for a rupture, especially with a weighted or fluid filled tire. Its been my experience to note that all tires lose traction immediately with a spin in deep snow with the friction of the spin creating instant ice.

Morning Gidzey! It worked great - threw it with ease, even when we had the wet slushy stuff , it still threw it out. I believe it was a residential 60". The B2782B - not sure they still sell it as I think the new K-connect system is now standard and has similar blowers but different model numbers I believe. The new K-connect and subframe are much better than this older model sub-frame. (I have it on my LX2610). Good luck and all the best!

Good morning CForks. I usually travel around 4-5 kms per hour. I had to get a blower because the driveway can't be plowed through the whole winter, otherwise i would have purchased a hydraulic plow blade for the front. I like the blower a lot but it is more expensive than the blade. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Good evening Walter and thanks for the questions. On the shovel, yes got one at home and I am with you on that - any new shovels for sure. I've had that old red one forever. Clothing. I dress based on the temperature and on the windchill. Worked outside for some time in my work career so learned early on how important it is to be dressed so as not to be too hot or too cold working outdoors. So that day I had a set of thermal underwear - top and bottom, winter socks, heavy flannel shirt and my lumberjacket. I also had a coat with me on the tractor too just in case. My thermals are not wool - they are made of some type of Thinsulate material - best set I have ever owned. I always bring extra clothes so I can remove or put on as needed, to stay acclimatized but not too hot as you don't want to perspire out in the cold. Anyways, that's just the way I have learned works best for me. Hope that helps a bit. Thanks again and have a good week!

As i mentioned I swiped the chains off my old 4wd truck cause I used it for plowing in the winter.I always wanted a tractor, for other jobs on the 5+ acres but couldnt really justify the cost. But last summer made my decision since one of many dead fall ash trees took the 77 Chevy pickup out of commission! Only left the 7 foot plow unscathed! So by surfing YT ,fell apon Outdoors with the Morgan's videos ! Mike lives aprox 35miles north of me and with his use, comments, skills & honesty on RK tractors I purchased the RK37 - grapple- box blade and backhoe, all of which I can use to maintain my place. I fabricated the old snowplow with a quick attach to plow with & it works great, but I miss the warmth of a cab & heater! It's a trade off for the other work i can do. I haven't been able to really get any work done due to all the rain/ muddy mess. Watching more trees drop, ditches over flow and road turn to mud, I will definetly be busy this summer, Lord willing and the creeks dont rise!Sorry for the lengthy comment, I just got cabin fever!

I original had bought only rear tire chains but soon after went back to the dealership and bought the front ones as you in Ontario and Quebec we had a lot of freezing rain this winter particularly in January I was skeptical at first because the chains on industrial tires so not have much contact area I was actually thinking of getting garden tractor tires but they really do work well don't hesitate. The hardest part will be to get them on you will need to deflate your tires to get them on tight and I suggest you go to princess auto and buy a binder that will help too. On the BX rear wheel spacers are pretty much a must otherwise the chains graze the frame you may want to check into that for your B series first my dealer in Ottawa was very helpful with this take care and great job I really enjoy your videos

Good day gatorshd. Needed a blower because the driveway is about 1 mile long and cut tight through the forest. There is nowhere to plow the snow. I had contractors previously who plowed, but by the time you get to about January, the banks are so high and the driveway becomes too narrow as there is nowhere to push the snow. Had to be a blower. Another thing I have seen is hex-head screws driven into the tires, they are cheap and quick to add or replace. I would think the primary concern is the screw being lost out of a tractor tire and found by one of my other vehicles tires.
