This is the new variac power supply video: • Building a Big Variac ...
This little experiment was just to test out my new current limiting setup. It seems to handle well at 35A. I added a few more inductors from the current limiting power supply to get up to 67A. It seems to work rather well for a couple minutes. The current to the pole transformer was around 67A at 240V. The current to the fluorescent tube was ~ 14,400V @ 1,120mA or 1.12A Thanks for being patient and hopefully I can get more vids out.. Thanks for watching!!

Strange to think that glass, normally regarded as insulating, is actually a conductor when it is hot enough, and that you can have enough heating from the current flow to keep it that way. Just a reminder that nothing is really an insulator, everything conducts electricity when persuaded enough.

Hey dude. Can you recommend me a good high voltage transformer? What do you use for your variac transformers I can only find low voltage ones?

That's Cool!! I had something like that happen but with 65vdc from my solar panels, I had a wire on a brick and was melting it with the arc and it melted the brick to, the wire melted into the brick then it lit up, it was brighter than the arc, and very hot to, if I put a piece of wood in it it vaporized it very fast.

There's nothing better than making things glow, speaking of which we need to blast electricity through rocks, bricks, glass and see if we can't make them into a unified melted piece. Thanks for the idea, we shall give that a try.

This was a small one too, I tried a big one, but it didn't melt, it actually was able to snuff the arc inside once all the gasses were dissipated. I will continue to experiment to see which one's are the best. This was also just me testing the kind of new current limiting setup. It can do 10kW for around 2 minutes or so before it starts to get warm, so I'm happy for now, but I think I need a big arc welder to do the job for current limiting. And I need more power, LoL!!!!
