Speaking of remade cutscenes, remember at the start of the game when Samus loses her upgrades after the explosion? Well, instead of a big bright flash covering up the model swap, in the remastered her power armor slightly glows and you can see parts like her shoulder pads disintegrate showing a flawless transition between the two suits.

Yeah, it was the same with the Devil May Cry HD remasters, a KZfaqr did a good job outlining how effects like this after image on certain attacks were missing. The Metroid Prime remaster has a lot of good improvements,.and had other things that seem either overdone (Samus's glare was just fine on the original without rubbing your face in), or not to my taste (The hud bouncing just seems unnecessary, and I prefer the original hud design)., But I'm also a gamer who saw what bad graphics really are, and the fact is I could play a PS2 over composites on an HDTV and find something to impress, so I think visual fidelity has left me behind. I can appreciate all the advances in an abstract way, but I'll never really feel the difference between playing Dead Space on the Xbox 360 and the Remake on a PS5 on more then a superficial level. I sometimes wonder how many gamers (Actual gamers, not devs who understand the details) actually do get something out of it who haven't read the dev notes or seen comparison videos with game journalists telling them exactly what they are looking at

strange to see they added environment illumination with the magmoor flamethrowers, but removed it from the beam weapons. also, nice to see the thermal visor much more accurately reflect a real life FLIR camera, including the motion blur.
@BoltFraction
@BoltFraction Жыл бұрын
I've looked into this myself, since reactive beam illumination seemed like a pretty huge atmospheric detail to cut. The general consensus seems to be that - given the hugely upscaled textures and overall graphical load of the game compared to the original - that processing those beam lighting changes on the environment in real time would just be too demanding on the Switch's hardware, and would result in the games' framerate taking enough of a hit to be deemed unacceptable. Thus, the effect was regrettably cut.
@The_Ostrich
@The_Ostrich Жыл бұрын
@@BoltFraction Lol thats just wrong, the missiles, super missiles, plasma beam, boost ball and power bombs all cast dynamic light. You can even use a hacked Switch to monitor the GPU usage durring live gameplay and find there is always enough headroom left to implement dynamic light from regular beam shots too. This is not a hardware limitation issue, its something else.
@BoltFraction
@BoltFraction Жыл бұрын
@@The_Ostrich Weird. If what you say is true, then it's absolutely bizarre that the beam lighting was removed. Seems way too glaring an omission to be honest oversight. Maybe it was causing something to bug out that we just don't understand yet. Perhaps we can hope it'll be patched back in come the future.
@marcfuchs6938
@marcfuchs6938 Жыл бұрын
@@BoltFraction Yop, those lighting effects would put no strain on the system, even if they came with dynamic shadows, but which seem to be not a part of anything in the game. So just light sources without shadows or nothing to make the Switch bother. Also thinking about the 20 years older original game on weaker hardware being able to do it, why would you think it's demanding for the Switch? Texture resolution makes no difference in calculating the effect, only the complexity of models, if shadows are cast and the resolution of those. We wouldn't even ask for shadows, so bare lighting, that eats up no mentionable processing power, is more than appropriate - so yes, it seems illogical, that they cut it. It was either some (weird) artistic decision, or maybe it truely caused some problematic glitch in the code at some point and so they cut it. But I really miss that lighting, the far improved visuels get dragged down again without this lighting.

Speaking of changed cutscenes, in the final boss fight when Samus is chasing Metroid Prime through the crater, she winds up for her somersaults in a much more realistic manner by doing a small hop at the end of her run before putting all her weight into the flip. I have the suspicion, that they left it out, because it seemed like pointless effort to them. Because let's be honest, the original one was cheap and unnecessary. I just noticed today while playing it that the fog in the research lab when you first fight the space pirates in Phendrana Drifts is gone. The remaster got rid of a lot of visual obscurity the original game had. People aren't talking about this barely at all, maybe they can't really see past their own excitement, but I immediately noticed and it kinda turned me off to the remaster a lot. The fog, the moody darkness you had to strain your eyes to make out anything in... it's practically all gone and replaced with lighting that makes the game seem closer to a generic Unreal Engine sci-fi game than tne Metroid Prime I spent long days of my childhood playing.

If you're referring to the first large room you encounter in the labs-the one with a bunch of large cylindrical moving beams-then I think you're mistaken. In the original, that room only fills up with fog/steam after the power in the lab has been cut, which is also the case in the remake. The first time you go through there (when the cutscene with the drone plays), there's no fog on either version.

So in the original, there was what appeared to be a glitch during the Meta Ridley fight: When you exposed his weakness (the glowing spot in his stomach), sometimes, he would become completely immune to damage for some reason. This is most notice-able when using the Wave Buster. This seems to have been fixed in the remastered version. Also, in the original, Meta Ridley was immune to the Flamethrower. This is also no longer the case as he now takes damage from it. (Note: both of these issues were also present in the Trilogy version)

The weapons and enemies illuminating the environment is what I'm hoping they patch back in. (Mentioned in part one.) Edit: I did some digging. It would appear that's one of the biggest complaints about the remaster, the loss of projectile lighting. So I'm hoping that's enough to have it patched back in. Most of Remastered's problem is the lack of lighting in some of the objects. Seems like there is only win it has compare to the original when it comes to light effects is this one 1:38 Not only it lights up the room it also affects Samu's Arm Cannon.

There are a few changes that I understand, the light flare in the part when Samus crosses the streaks of light in the ruins could be a problem for photosensitive people. Same applies for the Bombus multi-coloured, electrical explosions, they were brought down a lot so that the lights aren't destracting and also won't cause seizures or migranes.

I wonder if some of the lighting differences (shots not lighting darkened rooms, reduced lens flare in the Chozo Ruins, no glare when walking through beams of light) were a result of photosensitivity concerns.

Sure, let's get rid of the lighting of our own weapons, but the flame throwers, they get the treatment.......... It's really weird, how this beautiful remaster does a few rather important elements worse than the original. But it doesn't seem like an accident, they seem to have made this decision purposefully. For whatever reason. Let's hope they correct this with a patch.

1:06 , 2:06 The Gamecube was a _Beast._ People are creaming over the re-Master; yes it's Ok but not all that; early Unreal 4 level. I _really_ miss the days when Nintendo went toe to toe with it's rivals' (PS2) and was able to not only stand it's ground but deal telling blows. The Prime series being one of the major ones of many that cemented the GC as every bit as worthy successor to the N64 - if not _better._ I hope the Switch 2 comes out soon - I love the Switch in concept but I'm tired of the calculator specs.

I think I'm going to prefer eventually getting a rom hack of the remaster that adds back in nice things from the original game... over buying it. I already bought all the Prime games (usually at full price even) outside of Federation Force and even at the 40 dollar price tag, I don't think I want just a remaster, and especially not one that removes things I liked about the original game and messed up the door textures, as one of the original game's developers stated on Twitter. The many, heavy discounts there are on PC games and even occasional giveaways have wisened me to console games and their limited time purchase windows... making me only interested in buying Switch games when I can't wait to play them. I'm also not a bread winner, so it's difficult for me to buy games very often, much less expensive AAA and/or new games...

So THE one particular feature in the original (mirror surface reflections of Samus) has been cut in the remaster. Literally the first AMAZING thing I noticed about the games graphics when I was 14.....doesn't exist. I still love this, and want to get it, but wow that is utterly disappointing. That and losing lighting effects from the beams and morph ball are my biggest gripes so far. Cmon, those were minor details that could have been left in.

I've seen people on Twitter say this Remaster is nothing (graphically amazing) and telling Nintendo fans to look at other more "better" remasters, but then again forgetting that the Switch is not a PS5 or a RTX 3080 PC. Personally this is ground breaking performance, graphical quality and detail for a portable console that is 6 years old already.
