I wish they kept it like the original game, for classic mode at least. That's the only small gripe I have, I prefer the remake in every other way.

I know @@Oceane1803 the deadly height is now the knockout height. But you DO go in a state where you fall through grabable stuff like trash bins if you fall from too high though

My hypothesis for this is because Mario vs. Donkey Kong was released in 2004, before E10+ existed, and they toned it down in 2024 to keep the E rating because it's pretty obvious the original would get E10+ if the rating existed at the time.

Laying on the ground as opposed to falling off the screen is not "brutal" or "cartoonish" lol. The only ones that could be considered brutal were his old burn and shock death animations which it's pretty obvious why those two were changed. And him getting choked by bats never even made sense, why do bats make you choke? Another one that makes sense for them to have changed.

Yes. they really, really, really were more brutal and cartoonist. That's one of the things that brought a lot of personality to the GBA game, and now it's gone. Very saddening change.

@@Geobot3000 Nothing against the scaling down of difficulty in games, but a lot of the changes done for this remake feel like they completely dumbed it down to an unfun degree. The star system for completing a level is boiled down to just collecting the presents (before, you had to beat the level with a par score to earn one, which normally required collecting them all, taking out enemies, as well as reaching the end of the level within a certain time limit), the risk factor of watching your jumps is removed, and the increased invulnerability frames look like they can make brute-forcing through the game too easy. (World 4 is complete butt-hurt to get the stars for in the original game, but it was still fun as it was challenging) I'm not going to hate on the game for it, but I think the demo's as far as I'll go for playing it.

"Strangely absent voice lines?" What're you talking about? What's strange about it, the intro was redone cause y'know this is a remake and some weren't used. Others were out in there place if anything was removed and lines like "come back here you big monkey," Mario's Italian gibberish as if he was masking himself swearing, and him laughing at DK before the final boss were changed to portray Mario more friendly. All the personality of the original is still here plus even more added by the new stuff.

In tons of games Mario is shown being surprised, sad, and upset plenty of times. That being a rare thing to see isn't true and that isn't why that was charming. What's charming is seeing Mario really just want to work things out with DK, trying to be nice but being forced to fight DK anyway when he insists.

I haven't actually played the game myself but based on the footage it does look like there is a unique animation of the Mini-Marios hopping slightly when Mario climbs a ladder in the remake, its just not the same animation as the original game.

I can't tell if the change was made to appease both people who don't want to potentially replay every stage over and over while still giving those who do the option, or if it was just done to artificially extent playtime by making it an additional second campaign almost.

You're a child. The fact that removing scores makes you go "guess I'll find my gba" as if the remake is worse than the original is laughably petty. Removing the scores does nothing, collecting the presents to get the gold stars is just as fun and challenging as getting the high score to get them in the original was. If someone actually mods in the scores for the reason you're saying, they're whiny nitpickers like you. What about that is pandering lol you don't seem to know what that word means. Getting the target time on the time attacks is difficult and fun as well just like getting the high scores were. You do get a gold time medal from beating them so you do get another reward. The time trials unlock after beating the final boss, gold stars just unlock the expert levels.

Removing the scores *absolutely* takes away the challenge. In the GBA version, you had to utilize everything in each level to get your score high enough to unlock that level's gold star. In the remake, you just collect the 3 presents. You can disagree with me, but don't just lie to save face. When I said the changes were "pandering," I was obviously referring to Nintendo removing the skill ceiling (which is their specialty). By the way, you don't have to call me petty for my tongue-in-cheek comment regarding finding and using my old GBA- I'm just gonna use an emulator.

The score did nothing outside of make you have to defeat an extra enemy or two to get a gold star, it was unnecessary. They put a time attack mode in its place that is actually challenging. Fall damage was also completely unnecessary in the original hence why they took it out. All it did was make you have to wait on platforms longer, slowing down the pace of the game, so you didn't just fall from too high. The mallet being restored barely does anything, again only making things ever so slightly easier. They didn't take any challenge out of the game lol, everything is still just as challenging and fun. Your "opinion" is horrible and petty.

Yeah, It's a shame the charm of the original wasn't recaptured in this one, lots of voice lines, animations, and the music doesn't really hold up. The new features are nice but there a lot of small things that were removed and it makes the game feel pretty empty and generic

Also since this is a gba remake its very weird to be a switch game

Two completely new worlds with all new mechanics, a time attack mode, a casual mode, two player co-op, and new music in some areas along with banger remixes. It's also $50 not $60.

You can be disappointed but don't act like a child and act as though the remake is worse or something cause of it. For every voice line they took they out a new one in its place, some of them weren't even used in the original. He's still super talkative in the remake and lines were taken out to portray him nicer such as him not calling DK "you big monkey" and laughing at him.

The original game had some of my most favorite voice lines that Charles ever recorded for Mario. Things like "Come back here, you big monkey!", or "No, you don't! No, you don't!". Or the "Here we go, again, again" - when Mario was getting really tired of the adventure and was completly pissed off at DK. Then there was "We did it! Good job, little guy!" at the end of the Plus levels - really, those made the endings much more satisfying, and really made Mario and Mini feels like a team. No idea why they had to cut that. "Hey, Donkey Kong, are you okay?" was another really great one, after the ending of the Main part of the game. And I'm sure there's plenty more than I'm not even remembering. Overall, way too much charm was lost.

Outside of the crashing down animation which is still present just the fall height was adjusted, most of the charm removing details were for animations far less feasible to do with 3D Models compared to sprites. This was definitely a lower budget product and you can tell the devs felt bad about having to lose those details since they go out of their way whenever they can to add new animations.

They could've easily remade everything exactly if they wanted to, but they didn't want to go that route. This is called creative decisions, not "this is definitely a lower budget product."
