Noah Tapia was 47-3 during the 2021-22 school year as a junior. In February, he finished 2nd in the state tournament in Illinois Division 3A. losing the state title by a hair-thin 3-1 decision, and then won the IWCOA state championship in June. It'll take the Third Army to stop him in '23.

I don’t know what’s going on lately, but all of this good sportsmanship is renewing my hope for the future. Way to go guys!

I think both wrestlers showed a lot of class there. Noah is obviously at a level above Jackson but didn't try to humiliate him and Jackson showed a lot of class by keeping his cool as he was getting tossed around. I applaud both of them.

Interesting to see some freestyle here instead of the usual folkstyle. I like both but folkstyle a bit more. I have a question though - why do you say it's win by Technical fall when it seems like a win by pin?
@MidwestWrestle Жыл бұрын
Hi Julian, this was a folkstyle match. I agree with you on the pin-there appears to be a bug in FloWrestling's FloArena software. Whenever a wrestler scores 15+ more points than their opponent, FloArena automatically assumes it was a Technical Fall even if it was a takedown to the back that eventually results in a pin. I have corrected the description, thank you for the heads up!

@@MidwestWrestle Ahh really? It seems like they never stay on the ground for longer than a few seconds. From what I understood Freestyle they only stay on the ground for a few seconds before they have to stand up again. So if it's folkstyle my question is why's the ref blowing the whistle so much and not letting the action play out?

Hi @@julianbassk: The decision to come up to the feet after each takedown was entirely Tapia's. The official only stopped the match three times: 1) At the end of the first 90-second period, 2) At the end of the second 90-second period, 3) At the pin. That said, here is a reply I recently wrote to a slightly related question I received which might help with understanding what is happening in this match: "This situation is colloquially known as a "Tech-Pin". Tech-Pins typically occur in matches where there is a significant mismatch in skill level between the two wrestlers such that one wrestler could have easily pinned their opponent very early in the match, but for any number of reasons (e.g. practice), they choose to score as many points as possible prior to executing the pin. The thing to be aware of is that after one wrestler scores 15 more points beyond his opponent, the match is automatically stopped as a "Technical Fall", which is worth fewer advancement points than a Fall (pin), and so when a wrestler in this situation get close to the 15 point differentiation, they have no choice but to proceed to a pin at that point in order to maximize their advancement points. It is referred to as a "Tech-Pin" because it would have resulted in an automatic Technical Fall had the wrestler not achieved a pin at that very moment." As a side note, I do have three relatively recently posted freestyle matches on this channel-they should come up if you search for "freestyle" on my channel search tab.

@@MidwestWrestle oh interesting. So hes going for max points. Knowing that its even clearer to see how he completely dominated the situation from beginning to end

1:30 Schultz crossed his forearm in front of his upper body. What does this mean? What is the difference between a ''Technical Fall" and a "Fall"? Thanks.
@MidwestWrestle Жыл бұрын
Hi I Opine, Schultz's signal at 1:30 indicated he has won the coin toss for choice of position at the start of the second period and that he is deferring that choice to the opponent so that he can have the choice at the start of the third period instead. A Fall refers to what is traditionally known as a pin, and a Technical Fall automatically occurs when one wrestler's score has exceeded his opponent's score by fifteen or more points. Details on these concepts and more can be found at: www.indeewrestling.com/folkstyle-wrestling-rules/ FAQ: Q. What do {G} and {R} in the video title mean? A. They refer to the green and red ankle bands which the wrestlers wear, and the wristbands which the referee wears, that are used for scoring purposes. Q. Who won the match? A. Those details can be found in the description for each video.

Gotta love Tspia's team name. Schultz seemed clueless as to what he was doing. Probably due to lack experience.

The object in the official's left rear pocket is a flip disc used for determining which wrestler will receive their choice of starting position at the beginning of the second period: i.imgur.com/2tEtKus.png
