James please drill out the threads in the comms plate .The bolts will tighten up using those threads and not tighten it up to the bulkhead.Also tap it using quarterback turns to release the swarf.Get a wall hanger for your guitar mate it looked great in there and keeps it safe.

I would drill holes in the bracket, not to Tap it. You only need Tapped Threads in the boat.

Two things I don't follow about comms mast. A. why thread the bulkhead and the bracket? surely thread in the bulkhead, clearance in the bracket. B: if your boat will ever cruise, you need to be able to whip that mast down easily within a minute or so. If you fed the cable through the mast, to pop out below the roof,. you would not be able to take it down at all. You might find, once you start cruising, that a very short mast - just clear of the roof would be fine 90% of the time, though even that would have to come down for some bridges and tunnels. This is why the Foxes use a mag mounted mast - that if need be, would knock down..

Hi James. Why Did U tap a thread in the plate? U only need a thread tapped in the boat & clearance holes in the plate. Having both threaded will cause the plate to be held off of the boat. You was very lucky removing a broken hardened steel tap. Keep up the good work.

That 'please make that didn't happen' pause when the tap broke was epic 😂.

Always remember when tapping half-term then quarter turn back

Ian is correct; the plate should not be threaded, it needs a lock, and flat washer. I would use lock tight on the bolt as well. You can use the drill to tap things as well, I have been doing it for over 30 years and only snapped 2 and those were because I did not listen to my mentor. A variable speed drill works very well for that. Also why not hinge that mast just above the top and just lay it down when required. They make all kinds of things for just that purpose.

Hi James you will need to put a loop in the comms wiring so it's below the hole it goes through as water will head for the lowest point so if it goes straight in as in the last shot it will head inside whereas if there's a loop it will drip off the cable. Keep up the vlogs I look forward to seeing how your doing

Ah James you crack me up, especially so early in the morning here in Tasmania, Australia..... well, it was early, a few hours ago. Like the idea of your guitar 🎸 on the wall at the end of the bed.... inspirational indeed.

quick tip threading metal wind half turn forward quarter back to clean the cuttings out the way it will cut easier and yes it looking good coming on

You could use the latches off them gates for cupboard door/kitchen door handles James,they would look good n rustic👍you need a bolt drilling through the bracket to hold the cons mast tight or it will bang in the wind

Hi James. Richard says that you need to put vaseline or similar on the outside of the aluminium tube. Otherwise the aluminium will corrode due to electrolytic action due to disimilar metals.

James, the mast is so tall..just needs a crows nest🤪 The wardrobe cavity (where you had your guitar) could be better as your hanging space, then have drawers and shelves on the outer side, and big shoe drawer at the bottom. The boat is looking good 😀😀

James, you need to drill the plate with M6 clearance drill, 6.2mm dia. Only cut a thread in the boat bulkhead. Great vids fella, really enjoying it !
@garym5183 жыл бұрын
Sorry to say this but I was taught when using taps and Dias halt turn forward quarter turn back bit late to save your tap though.
@andyince3 жыл бұрын
Always back off after a few turns when tapping...... gets rid of the swarf and stops the tap jamming.......
@martinworrall58883 жыл бұрын
I think you want only clearance holes on the plate and just tap the holes in the boats.

Mast looks too tall when cruising (trees, bridges etc) so you need enough cable slack to remove it when moving. You also need a way to store it flat on your roof without rolling into the chimney or damaging the antennae ?
@peterbarker22163 жыл бұрын
Dont make pole to permanent James dont forget the bridges also bend the cable in u shape below your entry hole then the water will not ingress
