John Deere 2032R with Frontier PHD-100 Post Hole Digger are used in the planting of the Morse Tree Nursery Big Buck Pack of Trees. I also was given a Key Saver, the cool invention made by Robbie Clark. I show it and install it on my John Deere 2032R 2038R compact tractor.
Here is the Key Saver information that I mentioned

A few things we have found after planting many trees with a post hole digger. First we mark, mow, and spray the area with RU, second we use a 24" auger, which gives the roots much more loose soil to grow, and third we stop the auger and lift it out with the dirt remaining on the auger. This makes it a lot easier to fill the hole with the dirt still on the auger, instead of flinging it off the auger and losing it. I realize this may not apply, as your soil looks very wet. Just what we are doing. Bob

Great tips! These were bare root so at 12” they have a pretty good start but 24” would be even better. Don’t think there is a larger auger option for the this size but could be wrong. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience we are always looking to learn! - Josh

How big are the trees? I have little saplings

@@btripodina70 they are 5’ bare root. We stake and tube them so the deer don’t eat or run them. We do not fence them.

i plant timber trees a little diferently than most i buy trees fron va or md nusery i make a raised bed with old logs so that the dirt in the raised bed will be at least 2 1/2 to 3 ft deep , preferably sandy loam i then plant the seedlings in a trench about 6 in apart and in rows 1 ft apart mulch with leaves when the trees are mostly 4-5 ft tall i dig up by removing logs and scooping up with tractor bucket. i plant in a hole dug with a post hole digger. i protect trees with a 2x4 wire cage cut 4 ft long ( with 8 ft measuring stick marked in middle) after rolling out fence and cutting with long lopers (no bending over) and wiring together in 3 places (easier to get off). i get old decking from friends and rip to 1 in wide 4-5 ft long and point one end this is woven in the cage so that the top of the stake is outside. the 4 ft height of fence is a compromise between cost and a little deer brousing -you can raise the top of the cage to 5 ft as the tree grows. after the tree is 7-8 ft tall i remove lower branches ,take cage off and put on a old 4ft ft tree tube that i have scrounged from a unsuccessful tree planting and reuse the cage. i plant in an area that occarionally floods so a tree with a tube is less likely to get washed over. i plant yellow popular,oaks , maple, walnut ,black cherry ond a few others. if you have an area that is very wet with standing water part of year try bald cypress will grow as far north as upper NY do very well in my area of north east WV deer dont brouse but do horn

Thanks for sharing, I like your approach. One of our issues is this old strip mine has crappy shallow soils. We have planed over 350 trees and shrubs so far and in a lot of the areas picked shrubs and shallow rooted items to deal with the compaction.

Hey Josh, Can you add an extension to that or does the 3pt hitch not raise high enough? Andrew

if he moved the pin on the boom/hoop top, to the hole closer to the tractor it'd lift higher

Yep I think the last time I used it had it higher. Also that grass and clover was about 18-20” deep and I wasn’t always raising it all the way up.

Make sure to reach out to Robbie. I just verified that the current design does not fit to 4052R. If you touch base with him he will be able to tell you if he can design one to fit. I know he was looking into it.

I'm taking measurements and sending them to Robbie today... so I'd say still reach out to him, if you don't see a way on to reach him, ping me back here or send me an email at hardy.brothers.outdoors@gmail.com and I will forward to him. It's a small price to pay to avoid the aggravation for sure.

Key saver? But, why? I've a 3046R, first time I bent the key with my knee the keyswitch got relocated to a more common sense location, up on the dash. There's plenty factory wiring to relocate it up. Sell a drill bit or hole saw.
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
My key saver took 30 seconds to install, how long did it take you to move the key switch? Well that would be one reason... Other reason could simply be because I didn't think about drilling a hole in my dash and moving it, but hey, sounds like you got a solution... Btw, I'm not selling the key saver, I just offered up info for the guy that is selling them and giving all the proceeds to a Veteran's organization. Thanks for watching and commenting... Maybe a video how you moved your key switch would be a valuable add to KZfaq and the John Deere forums. - Josh
