My question is (regardless of outlet configuration) what happens electrically, when you bring the power from a 3 prong outlet (generator) to a 4 prong inlet box (transfer switch / home)? (It seems to me that the 120V / 30A is spilt into the X & Y prongs, so each is 120V / 15A) So why do you need a 2-pole, 30A breaker? (Shouldn't you limit the house load to 15A + 15A (using a 2-pole, 15A breaker) at the panel to prevent over-taxing the Generator?

So would that work if you have an ecoflow delta max 2016Wh solar generator? Will it power smaller receptacle and lights in a newer energy efficient home?

where is your generator located ,inside the building? it looks like you're trying to send power from the l14 plug attached to the side of the structure to the green cable you have outside.

do you know how that adapter cord is wired? I can't find any info on how the four conductors should interface with the three prong plug

It goes to both X and Y prongs. Another words, the hot leg of the 3 - wire (black wire) gets split into the 2 - hot legs (red and black) of the 4-prong. (So each wire carries half the load / current - if you connect them both to the transfer switch / panel.)

Two things: 1. You're splitting 120V from generator to both sides of the panel because L14 has two hot terminals. 2. That green color 14 gauge wire would not be capable of powering the house with a generator.

You are right it will not power the whole house only the important circuits like the sump pump and the refrigerator.

Hey, sounds like you know what you're doing... I posted a question you may be able to answer. @@streetfit909 Power goes to both sides. In fact this is what I do with a small 3000W generator. You still get 120V everywhere but could overload generator if you're not careful on consumption side. 240V stuff (like central AC) won't work.

@@danrascal4045 Yes, you can use more or less 12.5A + 12.5A = 25A without taxing the generator. What people need to be careful of, I have found in the newer models, is that the advertised Generator Wattage COMBINES all the outputs. (But each output puts out less than this.) For Example, that means that one plug may put out 30A Max (3600W) and the other 20A Max (2400W) for a total of 50A (6000W advertised wattage). The picture of the generator in this video, shows a switch, between the two outlets on the right and the L14-30R on the left , which allows the total power to go to one or the other. (And you can only use one or the other.) But in most newer models, there's no L14-30R and no switch, so if you only use the NEMA TT-30 3-Prong Port, you get 3600W - less than the total rated output.

What do you connect to if your generator has two 120v outlets and two 240v outlets? Just one of the 120v outlets?

If you have the 240v you will not need the adapter. It will just plug into the transfer switch.

It depends on the load on the other side but generally, you can overload the cord.

The cord has to be rated to the generator outlet amperage. Some generators have 15, 20, and 30 amp 120V outlets. The generators also typically have circuit breakers for these outlets.

So are you sending 120-volt into your home by using this adapter?
