The excitement is building. Sunny 70 degrees here in west central Georgia today. Some are predicting a wet spring, so be prepared.

I will be prepared :) As much as I can be. I can handle wet! I just don't want to handle a cold wet! LOL

I'm so excited for you Jodi! You seem so well prepared for this journey. Just an FYI, we live in the Greenville SC area in the non-summer months and Maine in the summer, so I'm a bit familiar with the Springer Mountain area. If you're still undecided on where to stay overnight, I would suggest either Dahlonega GA or maybe Helen GA for an overnight. Helen is about an hour away from Dahlonega and is a very cute small German-type village just south of Unicoi Gap. Safe travels and please let us know if we can be of any help on your way. All the best from your fellow friend from the Maritimes.

Sweet - your dreams and completed through hiker nightmares. All the same, just different perspective. Good to be excited. Take it easy at first, walk your own pace, take time to get your trail legs. Been following some folks and of the 10 that have started, five have left the trail before or at Neel's Gap. I know you are not going to be one of those. Sure wish you were at 25lb with food and water. Looking forward to following your adventures.

My bag is 25 with food - only thing missing is water, but I would be really happy with 25 pounds including water too - but when the warmer weather hits, I think I can get it down to that when I switch out to my warmer summer clothes and gear :) Definitely going to take it slow and hike my own pace - good advice for sure!

@@jodiwoodside4197 Wow, that is impressive. As you know a 1L Smart Water bottle averages about 2.2lbs. Plenty of water until you start up Blood Mountain, so I would think no need to have two full bottles. Just frequent rest stops and hydrate by streams. Not sure your plans at Neel’s Gap, but if your budget can afford it, get a room/cabin and do laundry and sleep in a bed. You got some mountains coming out of Neel’s Gap. Best of luck.
