Here's a list of the top 15 foods that never expire! We're talking about foods with no expiration dates and foods with a long shelf life. These items are perfect as survival and emergency foods, and they are good for stockpiling! So if you happen to survive an apocalypse, you will be prepared.
While many food products have a "best before" or "best by" date, it doesn't mean they aren't safe to eat after the expiration date. In fact, when stored properly, some foods will last for years, if not decades!
That said, it's always important to be safe! If any food or drink has mold, a funky odor, or color changes that suggest spoiling, you should just throw it out.

I was the kitchen organizer for a large seminar group in spain in 1973 . The people ate so much honey that we depleted all local supplies . One of the buyers located some honey that had been in a cellar in France for thirty years , in 50 gal steel drums . When it arrived by truck and opened, it was like a rock . We took big butcher knives , heated them in hot water and cut out big chunks . then we put the chunks into big SS bowls to melt . It was the best honey i have ever tasted .

I have a very fast paced life style and time is money so the night before i put my rice in a large ziploc bag then add my salt vinegar sugar and powderd milk and allow it to soak overnight on the counter grab it and go and also i take my jar of honey to sip on to make sure i stay hydrated. If i get hungry between meals i may snack on the dried beans which i have hidden in varios places that i frequent throughout the day.

If you eat beans enough, your body will produce the enzymes to digest it so you don't get gassy. Soaking your beans and then discarding the water, or even giving it two soaks, will increase its digestability by a lot.

Napoleon was the one that started it. (Canned foods) to feed his army. Also there are tons of youtubers who eat WWII army rations today on video, and are ok. Cheese was a way of preserving milk. Dried meat or fish..... ever eaten rotten beef jerky? Ale (beer) was to have clean drinking water. All this before refrigeration or the interweb. The list goes on. The ancients had it worked out. We decided it was time for a tea break, and had a large slice of cake with our tea. It was delicious although a little dry. I would definitely add dried pasta; same as rice, it will pretty much keep forever, stored properly. Certain canned foods DON'T keep well, e.g. peeled tomatoes - as they are quite acidic and will spoil in the can. Canned meats like Spam tend to keep well, because they are much closer to neutral in their pH.

Oh yeah anything dried such as rice, pasta, potato flakes spices powdered milk, cheese, flour,, baking soda and powder plus dry gravy and some meats can last a long time and I believe bottled water 🌊💦 can last a long time if it's still not opened and tea and coffee can last a long time and I believe that oils and vinegar can still be useful and any kind of wine, cognac,,brandy,beer, and alcohol may age over time but can still be good 👍😊

Yes, mustard will last for many years, no problem. However, dried pasta is only good for about a year past it's expiration date in most cases, after that it tends to get weevils in it. (I've tried storing it for a few years and that always happens.)

@JoeJ-8282
@JoeJ-8282 2 жыл бұрын
@@wizardsuth Yeah, it does separate somewhat over time, but that clear liquid is vinegar, which is a good natural preservative, so all you really have to do to bring mustard that has separated like that back to useability again is to shake it up really good before using it... But really, absolutely NOTHING on this list of "Foods that never expire", truly does last totally indefinitely, but these are the types of foods that tend to last the longest overall, usually at least a few years, up to a decade or 2, depending on storage conditions. Some of these foods are only realistically good for a few years at best, but some of the others really will last for decades if stored properly.

The FDA does not regulate expiration dates, best by dates etc on anything except baby formula and infant foods. You can look this up on the FDA's website. The dates that are put on foods are done at the manufacturers discretion and largely to help grocery stores rotate their stock.
@mohammadsp1855
@mohammadsp1855 2 жыл бұрын
For those food items, the appropriate terms should be "best before date" instead of "expired date". Best before date means as long as you consume within the date (best before), the manufacturer assure the "taste and quality" will be maintained. If you consume it after the best before date, it is still "safe" (contain no harmful amount of germs, bacteria, fungi, toxins) given the packaging remains intact or stored properly but the quality may deterioted over the time.

If you can control for humidity and temperature as well inside a cold location like a fridge; you can keep some vegetables almost indefinitely. I've made romaine lettuce last for a few months before using it by using a double ziploc bag method inside the bottom compartment of my fridge. Kept it at about 1-2c and kept the humidity to low. Maybe I got lucky, but I haven't bothered to recreate the situation again since then for lettuce. Carrots however...

I thou8ght pasta but I looked it up: The shelf life of uncooked dried pasta is very long; you can store it in your pantry for 1-2 years without blinking. Having said that, do keep in mind that you should do it properly to not let it go bad. Sealed packages of pasta can be stored in the pantry at room temperature and they will last for a couple of years.

Also, we were given an old car for my teenage daughter. It had been sitting in a shed for years. The back seat was a mess and full of trash. Among the trash we found a chicken nugget and a Twinkie that looked completely normal! I haven't been able to eat either sense. This is a video about food, so your beliefs in whatever gods you believe in is irrelevant as well as insulting or offensive to those of other faiths, and simply annoying to those who have no religious beliefs. Shoving your religion down people's throats like this just brings your religion into disrepute, and makes you appear to be an arrogant or thoughtless person who is disrespectful of other people's beliefs.

Basically what I buy is honey, peanut butter, grain bread, chicken, oats, potatoes, other veggies/fruits, etc and I only get a little junk food. It's WAY more affordable. I just need to eat 2 peanut butter&honey sandwiches a day (around 4 to 5tsp of honey and peanut butter per sandwich), each sandwich is 1,000 cal; which means after that, a good dinner and I'm around the 3,000 cal I need. Of course, I bought and have been using rye, barley, oats, spelt (not a big fan of that one), amaranth, four kinds of corn (purple corn bread anyone?), and probably more I've forgotten... Allergic to coconut and soy, have to make my own bread, may as well get creative.

Although it frequently says on the front label the date the grapes were harvested and Subsequently produced. Can older properly stored wines be used to marinate meats ? The best Basmati has both age and extra long rice grains, generally up to 20mm (three quarters of an inch.) @@nct948 Manufacturers are required by law to put an expiry date on a product. The expiry date on rice, though, is pretty meaningless. Keeping any food cool (like in a pantry or basement cool) airtight, and dry is all you need. With any opened food you have the danger of insect infestation which is why being in an airtight container is important. Like with any food, when you eventually cook it, taste test when cooked. I am sure it will be perfectly good. Enjoy.

Rice stored too long over time can develop weevils. The eggs are already there. I buy a 5 kg bag (just over 10 pounds) of basmati rice at a time. Only once did I get weevils but I now get rid of the eggs by killing them before placing the rice into an airtight container. I do this by spreading the rice into 2 large, deep baking / roasting trays and placing them in an oven pre heated to 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit). After 15 to 20 minutes stir the rice to allow the heat to be evenly dispersed. I leave it in the oven for a further 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before placing in an air tight container. If it does not cool completely it can develop condensation in the container. Treating the rice this way does not affect the cooking quality of the rice, whether you use the absorption method, boil and drain method, microwave, rice cooker etc. If you only buy 1 to 2 kg of rice at a time (just over 2 to 4 pounds), you would use less time and only one baking tray.

Bag comes home from store, goes in freezer for 48 hours, then into airtight containers. But I have a 33 cubic foot freezer, so I know not everyone can do this. I freeze all of my grains and flours before repacking into long term storage. Another method of debugging for storage is to add dry ice to the top of the container on top of your goods just before sealing it.
