We all can have a little bit of a curmudgeonly side and we can all have those days where we just need to be alone with our thoughts, keeping our self to our self and avoiding all those pesky ‘other people.’ But there are some who take that hatred of anything that isn’t themselves or their own home a little too far. These are the homes of people who HATE the outside world!

The fact someone love tranquility and loneliness didn't necessarily mean that he hate people.

Idk, many of these homes/ places are without water/ electricity, so during the cold months, keeping warm is more challenging and you have to go out to get your own water and... idk what some do about *toilet paper* in some of these homes so.... Yeah, to move in to many of these homes, I’d say you’d HAVE TO HATE ppl. There are far easier ways to get tranquility and be alone....

I started working at age 15. ALL of my Employment has been in Public Service. I started out as a Camp Counselor, worked in Retail, worked in the Airline Industry, worked in Public Bus Transport and many many many other Jobs serving the Public. I'm now in my early 40s. It's NOT that I "hate" people. I just don't enjoy being around people nowadays. Isolation (for an amount of time), is what I truly need now.

I admire these people for their non-conformist independence and creativity. They made their dreams a reality when few people in this world manage to do so. On one hand, I wish I had that kind of spirit and courage. And on the other hand, I don’t think I can handle being isolated and so so so far away from conveniences such as a grocery store or a hospital or relatives etc, etc.

As somebody who is absolutely fed up and disgusted with today’s society, a society where nobody gives a damn about anyone else except themselves, I am definitely one of those people that would live in one of these homes in a heartbeat if given the chance. I wouldn’t say I’m antisocial, I’m actually a pretty friendly person, but there’s just so many jerks out there, it just seems everybody is so self involved, they only care what’s in it for them. I suppose it’s because I live in a big city, but I’ve also found that to be true in small towns, so I’ve pretty much given up on society, there’s no more ethics, no integrity, no honesty, it’s just me me me me, and that’s definitely not who and what IM. So I can definitely see the appeal of living in these places, so you can feel safe and secure, and not have to worry about anybody screwing you over.

I like Mountains, but I don't want to be hanging off of them. I believe I would like a moderately secluded place in the Appalachians. Maybe even in the Rockies. But not hanging off the side where a wrong step sends you to your death. I also want some land.I just want some peace and Freedom. Not a place that requires you to be a Triathlete to get to. Now that Icelandic Island? With the right modifications I could probably enjoy a vacation their.

I have always had a problem with how much gold and expensive items they put into building churches. That money could be put into helping the poor. I use to clean the priests lodging when I lived in a catholic home. This priest had gold eating utensils and gold around his is dishes. He had expensive bedding. Everything in his home was expensive. At the time I was taught that the priest was God's representative and he should be treated with reverence. When I finally left to live in the real world, I was so surprised to find out that priests were raping children. Ever since then, I do not claim any religion. I do one on one. It's me and my supreme being. Religions are like politicians. They have a leader and drain the people of their money and claim to help the people. The leaders lie and cheat and cover up their wrong doings by advertising some of the good things they have done.

A couple of other places you might look at. There are a couple of private property plots in the middle of US wildernesses. At least one or two in the middle of the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness area in Idaho. No roads. So getting there is either by trail, or a small airstrip. The US Forest Service has a number of fire watch towers scattered around the mountain peaks. While most are abandoned now, a few have been converted into camps/lodges that can be rented. I don't think your report mentioned Alaska. Many roadless getaways, including numerous ice covered islands. Amundsen-Scott isn't without people, but you had better like your companions.

Before the pandemic, I often thought about living away from the city and it's crowds, and move to a more isolated area were there aren't as many people. Now, that thought has come and gone, as I now am glad to see people out about socializing with one another. I know that as we approach our golden years, and we become limited to what our bodies and mind will allow us to do, I now want to live life to its fullest and do as much as possible before we have to resort to sheltering in place as we have experienced recently.

Well, the only good thing about the pandemic fading away is that people finally stop going camping and exploring/ruining remote areas in favor of shallow entertainment and comforts. The last 2 years were rough on public lands. Luckily people can fly to Bali or Thailand again and ruin those places. I for sure am glad that the number people on public lands has dropped significantly since the countries opened up again. I for one would live in any remote place with half way decent climate in favor of seeing people.

My house is on top of a ridge in the jungle and is only accessible by boat, then hiking over the beach, through a river, and up the mountain. Once up the mountain, there are another 62 stair steps to get to the house. In bad weather, forget it. The river is too high to risk. It is inconvenient for everything except peace. I love it!! I have a bunch of rescue dogs and a horse who packs my groceries and dog food every two weeks. After finding this magical, remote place, I can't imagine living anywhere else as long as I am healthy enough to climb the mountain. There are places like this in the world. They are worth it for those of us so inclined.
