Shows how much waste and consumption we as humans are responsible for. Each new efficiency technology, just using more and more materials and energy than the last layer, instead of looking at ways to reduce consumption in the first place.

That's a good shout, that! There's no UK standard I'm aware of that covers walkways defined by light (Which this is) but several MoD premesis near to me have recently installed new barriers where a strip of LEDs on the bar is used to indicate halt (Red) or proceed (Green). Anybody used to that could easily misinterpret the crossing colour (Intended for the pedestrian) in much the same way. ⚠ Perhaps the better approach might be for the walkway to be defined in amber/orange (Which in itself reasonably advises caution) and for the pedestrian instruction to be given as a red or green man projected onto the roadway just in front of the kerb line? 💡

As a man who can walk 30 miles without even thinking about it, I can't avoid thinking that a _PaveGen_ installation would be considerably more efficient if just two of those tiles are attached to the base of my trainers, rather than paving all 50km of my route with the things! 😉 Great concept for high traffic urban areas of course, but for low traffic suburban areas like mine one accomplished walker with a version attached to their feet will produce more energy for much less time, outlay and resources compared to paving a little-transited area with them. 😇

This reminds me of something I read in a textbook about distributed data systems. Twitter, according to the book, uses a different strategy to deliver your tweet based on whether your a celebrity with a high number of followers or an average user. For average users, when they tweet they update the feed for all their followers. For celebrities, they don't update the feed of all their followers (it would be too heavy on resources), and instead their followers will fetch celebrity tweets separately along with their regular feed.

I would rather convert the energy in gyms to electricity. Ten people on gym cycles will produce more power than a mile of those plates. And it's cheaper to install.

A dehumidifier in the park. I’ll bet that’s a cost effective way of getting drinking water. Run a compressor 24/7, filter, sterilize, mineralize… just put in a fountain and be done with it, you already have to to dig a trench for power lines.

Ok...I'll give a genius idea it's due. And, the Quadromat Waste Disposal System is just that... a stroke of freaking genius. I'm not sure how it could be implemented without some seriously expensive infrastructure adjustments and adaptations, but it is a really ingenious idea that I'd really love to see come to fruition.

I am a line mechanic, which means maintaining machines and though it looks to be a great idea it also looks to be a nightmare when it comes to maintenance. If it does not raise someone must go in to repair it and there is a chance it may not be possible to repair then you either live with the garbage underground or dig it out.

Those benches and that trash system are more a war on homeless people and animals. Ok I legitimately thought about this power making walk way and the Leitner idea 20 years ago. I think eventually we will all live in various sized, modular pods. So your house and private transportation is made up of pods. Want to dine out? you can take your dining room on a track to a restaurant. or you can use a public or private transport, all on cables. You can move your hours or buy add ons.

Really? China trying to solve a problem by building something that results in the same problem. What I mean is; If China stopped producing as much emissions as they do, Eg, Poorly constructed coal burning power stations. Due to cut corners/tofu-dreg construction practices, they release a lot more particulate and gas emissions than the likes of Australian and American coal burning power stations. Then they wouldn't need to use these contraptions to filter the air. But they built these things, that run electricity, that is produced by coal-burning power stations, that produce excessive amounts of particulate, that these then filters out of the air. They are like a dog chasing its own tail around a tree and too stupid to know it's their tail...

Look through history books. It is annoying, but it is more annoying to ostracize people over something like that. Not only that, but the money it costs taxpayers.
