If you love good political stories and a healthy amount of war drama in your JRPGS then this video is for you!
This video lists all the JRPGS I have either played or heard about that have really good political stories. Good politics make an RPG's world more interesting and tangible, so here is a good list for you if you are looking for more of that!
And this list actually has a bit more than 15 games in it!

I saw one of your videos a few years ago saying if you were a fan of Suikoden to give Trails a try, so I did. I started with Cold Steel I, then had to go back and play all the Sky games and I just wrapped up Zero and Azure. You simply can't beat the story in Suikoden or Trails when it comes to political intrigue & war. Triangle Strategy was great in that regard as well. Can't wait for Eiyuden and the remasters. Nice list.

DESTINY OF AN EMPEROR from Tecmo for the NES/Famicom, based on the SANGOKUSHI manga about the Romance of the Three Kingdoms period of Ancient China, is a great JRPG that also does warfare and politics well.

Hey there! I think majority of the games on your list, I already played except for the Legend of Heroes series. And most of the games on your list are I think the best games I have ever played in terms of narrative. Xenogears is the deepest for me because of its overall theme. Suikoden, Shining Force and FFXIV are personal faves because of the overall gameplay and story. Love Dragon Force as well because of its unique mechanics. Of course, Eiyuden is my hype upcoming game in 2024 :D I also recommend Legend of Forsena and Legend of Runersia which are games with political backdrops and the hexagon-based grid, turn-based style gameplay made me replay these games for hundreds of hours. Haha! Edit: Truthfully, I would love to see remasters or remakes of Vandal Hearts and Shining Force, especially Shining Force 1 to 3 and its off-shoot games from the Game Gear/Sega CD era XD

Thanks for the recommendations! It seems to be more popular than ever to do remakes lately, so maybe there is a chance at least some of the games you mentioned will get that treatment. I’m with you on some shining force love. It’s a shame that series has faded into the background!

Vandal Hearts is the Second Game i Love from.Konami. I played it at the same Time as Suikodem 1. The 2nd Part ist soo good too..but very sad.

Having played most of those games, Suikoden, FF Tactic, Front Mission are my favorites and highly recommended too. Front Mission 1st is prolly the worst of the series and I don't think they did enough in the remake mechanics wise to make it decent, it was purely a graphics remake, don't give up on the series, it only gets better.

I hate politics. ...but they are inseparable from the human experience, so no game or story is believable without them. Therefore even though I hate them, they are a necessary part of all my favorite stories.
