The quote starting 22:40 about the mindset (lose= trash, win=value) is so important, not just for chess but for life in general!! Thank you!

2:38 Queen b3! check: if King e8, Queen takes the tower in g8, if King f8 knight e6 check, bishop takes knight and other knight e6 check attacking also the Queen, if King to e7, knight to g6 check... and if block with bishop just take the bishop with the Queen - all the options have checkmate in some moves at the end.

Qb3 is correct but I think it is better to play Ng6 check than Ne6 check after Kf8 because the only move for black in that position would be Ke8 and then Qxg8 check wins the rook. Ne6 check is worse since it blocks the queen's vision to g8.

Great video! One thing I would add (although I'm not sure that viewers want to hear this so maybe it doesn't make sense to be part of your content): To reach 2000, *play more longer time formats* (no less than 15|10) so you practice thinking within the match and spend time analysing the game afterwards, and *play less blitz & bullet*. Blitz & Bullet help with openings, basic endgame principles, common traps (1200 level) and time management, however they don't help at all with other skills, such as developing the skill of finding tactics & ideas (of a 2000 level). I'm not even touching the positional mindset, where Blitz & Bullet can actually harm it, but usually for under 2000 this is not necessary to build. E.g. the tactic you found with Nf5 at Mistake #2, you can find it and calculate the three variations in a reasonable amount of time because you have spent years actually studying & learning chess since you were a child, as well recognizing patterns when assessing a position. Had you only been exposed to shorter time formats, probably you wouldn't have built this skill. Someone who started playing as an adult and mostly plays blitz & bullet (since these formats are more entertaining and also less time-committing), they will never build this capability of finding this idea and calculating several variations in the first place.

28:26 this one is similar to many tactical problems, rook e1 check the king and if rook takes you win a queen (trade rook for Queen), if King escapes, trade the Queen and after rook recaptures the other rook is lost in a1. 🎉

At 6:50, why didn't the opponent take the rook instead of Knight? (It was not commented on, so I wonder if it's some sort of high level blunder)
@TheBilly
@TheBilly 8 ай бұрын
Yeah that made me do a double-take. Sometimes those sorts of situations end up being notation errors (rook wasn't there) but here it was definitely there if she did indeed castle. You might take a piece if you're winning a whole piece instead of an exchange (3pt vs 2), but they just traded for no net gain soooo....I dunno, I guess she didn't take it because it's a low rated game haha

28:26 Re1 check wins on the spot! If Rxe1 then Qxd3 and if the king moves (Kf2/h2) then Qxd3 Rxd3 Rxa1. Re1 would therefore either win a queen for a rook or a rook.

13:02 Rd7 is more accurate, I believe. Basically, the idea is to pressure Black's f7 bishop. After Rd7, black's only response is Raf8 defending, but then White has the destructible move Qf3 overloading the black bishop, leaving no way Black to defend it. I still could be wrong though. After all I'm just a measly 2200 blitz player unlike Alessia who is 2500 blitz. She knows best.

I saw Qb3+ after a looking at moving the knights or rook but I didn't quite see the follow up after Ke8 I focused on trying to save the knights instead of what was in plain sight. I need to take what the red head girl was taking so I can visualise the board better lol

Alessia: "For me at this point, I had this equation: Your results = your value. I lose, I'm trash. I win, I'm good. So a draw was a way to avoid a loss for me." Oof. I am still working on this mindset myself where I mentally beat myself up for losing, especially if I get demolished in a game. I wish the one part of my brain that understands that your skill in chess does not equate to your entire value as a human being could convince the other part of my brain of this fact. But so far, I still struggle with self-esteem issues when I make a blunder or get beaten decisively in a game instead of just treating it as a learning opportunity for my chess improvement.

I think it should be Rd6, you pin the bishop to the queen and threaten to win the piece. If black tries to defend the bishop with their rook you can add more pressure by lining the queen up.
