15 Most Venomous Animals on Earth

Perhaps the most common fear that all humans share is the fear of venomous animals. In fact, the fear of spiders and snakes are the two most commonplace phobias. Usually this fear is misplaced as the vast majority of snakes and spiders are completely harmless, however, I’m afraid that this video won’t help abate any fears you currently hold. Some of you may end up avoiding certain parts of the world because of some of the animals mentioned. The animals on this list are ordered by increasing subcutaneous LD50 (Lethal Dose 50%), so the further up the list we go, the smaller the amount of venom it would take to potentially end your life.

Just wanted to make sure that we let everyone know that I (J Fish) made a mistake at 1:24 in the video. If you can’t read the annotation, I stated that a dollar bill weighs one milligram, but should have said one gram. A milligram is 1/1000th of a gram and the dollar bill was supposed to be used as a way of visualizing just how small the amounts we’re talking are. Thanks to Andrew Case for pointing the mistake out. In addition, many commenters have pointed out that our video lacks the box jellyfish. We should have stated directly that box jellyfish are a *class* themselves and the sea wasp is a species of box jellyfish which ranks as the most venomous of the various species of box jellyfish. Some have commented that the Belcher sea snake is the most venomous snake on earth, but this was incorrectly stated in a book that lumped different types of LD50 values together. Specifically, the belcher sea snake had its intravenous LD50 instead of its subcutaneous LD50. As for other sea snakes - If we had used all the species of incredibly venomous sea snakes available, they would have taken up the majority of the list. In fact, the first 11 on the list would have all been a different species of sea snake, so we settled with the deadliest one of them all. This goes for several of the animals in the list who have closely related species that possess very similar LD50 amounts. Additionally, we recommend you check out our video following this one covering the *15 Most Poisonous Animals on Earth* here: goo.gl/YcyUPD It was a very difficult list to put together due to the complete lack of lists available that didn’t have multiple venomous animals in there “poisonous” animals list. Furthermore, essentially none of them go by LD50 went listing the animals, so we made sure to give our plentiful sources within the description. Oh, and we don't hate Australia. Twas a joke my dudes.

Me too, and I live in Australia so the danger is real. Mostly where I live I have to watch out for the funnel web spider, the red back spider. the red belly black snake and the brown snake, and white tail spiders. And huntsman spider, they are not poisonous but they are that big and hideous and they are everywhere and they love the indoors and cars, they kill through fear alone.

LD50 values are all subcutaneous as this is what you would expect from venomous animals. So if you see that some venom has an LD50 in the nanograms, be sure it wasn’t simply intravenous. We’re also acutely aware that our deadliest toxins video is now out of date after our recent research for this video. You may have heard that Belcher’s sea snake is the most venomous, but this was incorrectly stated in a book that lumped different types of LD50 values together. Other sea snakes - If we had used all the species of incredibly venomous sea snakes available, they would have taken up the majority of the list. In fact, the first 11 on the list would have all been a different sea snake species, so we settled with the deadliest one of them all. This goes for several of the animals in the list who have separate species that possess very similar venoms. Thanks for 11k subs you beautiful people! Our next video will be very similar to this one, but the toxins it deals with won't be venom.

Nick H Shalom 🙂 Always remember time is short. We must repent of our sins and believe on The Lord Yeshua (Jesus). We must believe on Yeshua (Jesus). In Hebrew the word "believe" means to "trust and obey" so we must trust and obey Yeshua. Faith saves you. TRUE faith will produce obdience. If we have genuine faith, we will obey God's Law (Torah). We will repent when we stumble and trust in The Lord. Grace is what allows us to be the men and women God called us to be. It allows us to obey through His Holy Spirit. Really liked your video, and especially appreciated how you gave objective numbers about the toxicity of each animal, then explained the reasons that some of the most toxic animals don't kill as many people as the somewhat less toxic ones because of packing smaller doses, living away from most humans, and because of being less aggressive. It was also nice how you debunked some myths (scorpions make themselves glow in the dark) on this, too. It's refreshing to get some honest science instead of sensationalism and clickbait.

No, it shows that you are the one who has not done your research! “Venom” is a “poison”, it’s a “toxin”!But a “poison” can be anything “toxic”, even “Venom”. “Venom” just means its a toxin or multiple toxins produced by the glands of an animal. The duck billed platypus has “Venom” glands in its hind legs!it is considered both “Venomous” and “Poisonous” depending on who you talk to or the information you read. Poison Dart Frogs produce toxins from glands in their skin, that means it’s actually a venom! Saying one or the other is not wrong.

My uncle was on holiday and a King Brown Snake went across his foot. He said it was the scariest moment of his life.

growing up in hawaii i used to pick up the cone shells a lot as a kid... my dad used to always tell me to make sure there wasn't an animal first because of how deadly they can be.

If I have to be honest I live in the east coast of Australia (Brisbane) and I've never been bitten by a snake or spider even with pet pythons, important to note pet snakes rarely bite, Australia isn't to dangerous how you guys make it seem. It's a very beautiful country, I've only came in a close encounter with a brown snake once when I was 6 at a water park hiding in a bush with a nest close by. Other than that, I've been pretty safe. Proud to be Aussie and proud to laugh at Americans freaking the fuck out about Australia

I love the clarification at the beginning. I remember being taught in Biology class that poison can affect you no matter how it comes into contact. However, venom must be injected so it can travel through the bloodstream undiluted. For example, you could drink cobra venom and it wouldn't kill you like it would if it was poison from a tree frog.
