The sausage and potato thing is originally: "In the year of the Shield and the Axe"(Vuonna kilpi ja kirves). The meaning is the same. It has been twisted into any two things, sausage and potato(actually wiener and mashed potatos) remaining the most common.

You are right. We Finns do not dance and sing in the streets looking happy. But each of us has basically the same opportunities in life. We know that if bad things happen in life, we have a safety net to catch. We trust our legal system because it is created in accordance with the triangle of power. We trust the state and officials. Once these basics are in order, we don’t have to be constantly worried. Of course, Finland is not a paradise where everyone has things perfectly well. We also have a lot of things we can do better. But the key to people’s equal lives and well-being is our social democratic policy. Unfortunately, in many countries, it is seen as a threat and compared to socialism, even though it has nothing to do with it.

Happiness of countries is directly proportional to the wealth of the country. It can be increased by, 1. Personal developments 2. Millionaires helping growth of the country 3. Employment -LUXAS
@lyrigageforge3259
@lyrigageforge3259 2 жыл бұрын
Lol on that comment about Millionaires. We don't have that many of them. The income in Finland is not one with a huge gap. Sure there are people who earn less than most or more than most - but the point is that - for example our taxes also are such that those earning more pay the most, and those earning the least pay less than most. Millionaires are not that effective in 'helping the growth of the country'. Frankly we would need more investors but as said we don't have huge numbers of very wealthy people. Yes such can invest to business - but on the other hand, people with a lot of money aren't necessarily doing so 'to help a country' - instead of helping their own income grow. And as for Employment - yea we have had a bit of lack of workers because there are a lot more older people in Finland than younger folks. But Russia's recent war with Ukraine and related matters reaching economics means that currently there is a bit less jobs around. Just saying that Finland is absolutely NOT the wealthiest country in the world. For example USA is a a lot wealthier as a country - but guess what - they aren't that happy, because they aren't taking care about their matters well enough.

While the comments in the video are generally factual - many of the picures and video-snippets are not typically Finnish, and makes one doubt that they are filmed in Finland at all. So take this video with a grain of salt - even if you can go and look around at a boating fair, not all Finns can afford a luxury yacht. University studies are tuition free for Finns, but not every line of study is open for everyone - you might need to pass very difficult condition for admittance - like if you want to become a lowest-grade teacher. And for housing and neccessities while studying you might need to take a loan to cover 5 years of just living in one of the most expensive countries in Europe. But still the main thing is: Finns do generally feel OK with this all, winters with darkness and cold, high prises, social distancing as the norm pandemic or not, learning a lot of languages, mosquitos and tics in the summer - SISU is the feeling that there is more to life than such small details.

Me reading this: Is a Finn. Me also: I was like you. Me saying to you: It will change for the better. But you must teach yourself a new way of thinking. When those bad thoughts arise, know that it is the depression speaking, not you. And yes it is hard work, over again, one must dig oneself up again. But it can be done. One day you will simply realize that you need to do so less often and you find that things seem at least tolerable. But you are a Finn and you have the Sisu somewhere deep within. Take care about you. Do not be so hard on you. And yes, I also know this - sometimes those people who are closest to us can not quite even accept your reality. That is not because they don't care - but because they love you too much to see how it really feels for you, as such a feeling within one you care for is hard to accept. Well those things someone could have told me - so I said to you. No, your situation is not mine, so some things will not match - yet getting out from depression indeed is much dependent of rethinking the thoughts that make you feel so bad. So once more - it will become better.

# 3. Freedom and Independence. The big difference between Finland and America is that Finland doesn`t have a bunch of violent criminals all across the country with freedom and independence like America does, which ties in with # 5, They Trust the Police. Being that America is a criminal friendly country, the Finland police aren`t under the same pressures and stresses that the American police are under.
@mickey8355

@S Heinley Ha. So either live in a crime capitol or be bored. I guess America has a short menu. I think I`ll try another restaurant with more options. No wonder why the suicide rate and mass shootings in America are at an all time high. Either you`re in danger or you`re bored. I feel sorry for decent meaning-well parents in America nowadays. Between the corrupt media and politicians it`s almost impossible to raise their children to be mature, philosophically, deep adults anymore. Here`s your choices; "Crime capitals, or places that are really boring." With all the beauty and wonder this country has to offer, in 2022 those are your only two choices. ''Live in a crime capital, or live in a place that`s really boring." Sounds like a very encouraging country to want to raise children.

Finland is a very capitalist country. It has a free market economy. It has got percentually more small private businesses than US. Forests are owned 75% by private sectors. Properties are owned by private sectors. It has got all the freedoms in the world. Once Finland was heroically fighting against Soviet union, but Finland retained it's independence and freedom. Finland was never under communism.
@lyrigageforge3259

Finland literally fought it's civil war against the communist side the reds and the whites aka government side won. So indeed Finland is not that. But then again Americans have really screwed up image about what is communism or socialism and what is not. Probably because they aren't given the right picture about it at school.
