First to check out this video. Thanks for taking the plunge on the 15 rounder but I’m going to stick with my 13 round magazine and the 11 round magazines. Just got my Taurus GX4 back from Taurus as I had a dead trigger issue they had to resolve. They installed a new trigger assembly. I’m looking forward to getting it back out to the range this weekend. Can’t say I was excited about having to send my new GX4 to Taurus for repair but they turned it around super fast. It only took 2 weeks to repair so kudos to Taurus on their customer service out of Bainbridge GA! Expecting no issues going forward. 🤞

Great video. Very informative. My opinion is that a Micro compact pistol has a specific purpose. 11 or 13 rounds in a small footprint is good enough for me. I think 15 rounds kind of defeats the purpose and I've never been one to carry a Non-OEM factory magazine when being used for self defense. I would only use Taurus parts if I was going to protect my life with it. So, I'm glad you did the video and it helped me to stay within the safe boundaries of carrying the gun with the 11 round flush mag and also carrying the spare 13 round mag for backup. Sometimes you just have to accept that concealability is worth a couple of rounds. This Gx4 is outstanding with its 11 round mag. The 13 is just gravy. It is amazing how well it shoots for a micro too. Even I can hit the target!

I like the video, good info. I have the GX4 and found out Lakeline is coming out with threaded and a ported barrel for the GX4. That's what I'm looking forward to. Maybe a solid color towel over that camo countertop to see all the parts be a good idea.

I've bought TONS of stuff from Lakeline. Never once had an issue and ALWAYS ALWAYS receive items within days... Lakeline is a CHAMP!!

I’ll wait for the 25, then the 30, then the 40, the 50… Believe me, someone will make them. Pistol mags somehow turn into novelties with outrageous, unnecessary capacities. If you know your firearm you don’t need to carry a crate of ammo on you. Why do people believe the more rounds they can spray, the better their chances of coming out alive?

October 2022. I just bought a 13 round magazine for my new GX4 from Academy for $34. I didn't even know they carried them. I just went there to buy ammo. Christmas came early this year. Happy Hallowistmas.

I appreciate you going through the trouble. Now we have enough info to make a decision on our own. Is having the extra 2 rounds worth the extra $70.00 or $140.00 if you want 2 mags with that same capacity. That being 30 rounds as opposed to 26. That extra 2 to 4 rounds with two mags can be the difference between life or death. To me it's always better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it in those critical situations. Or we can just buy another 13 round mag and keep that on our person as well if that's a cheaper option because now you have an additional 13 more rounds than just 4 at three quaters of the the price, because you have to factor in the cost of another mag holder as well. I have a Taurus G2c with a twelve round mag plus one chambered that's cocked and locked with safety on of course. And I normally keep 2 extra mags with me. That's 37 shots, including one in the chamber that my paranoia, over kill ass, hope I never have to use.

You can soak those tools in Evap O Rust over night the clean with Acetone and use Birchwood Casey cold blue to revive them.

Wow, I never had an issue with Lake line! That was a couple years ago.

In my opinion it makes the pistol bigger and the grip disproportionally long. After all, it is a concealable pistol. I have the pinky extensions on both magazines and it is just enough to fit my digitus minimus manus perfectly. However, I’d use it to shoot at the range. Thank you.

Taurus does make a 15 rd magazine for the GX4 Carry. Those magazines will fit the regular GX4 pistol check them out.

What is the phenomenon called where we have an uncontrollable urge to increase the capacity of every gun we see? I'm guilty of it too. It's just weird. 11 rounds is awesome for such a small package. I'm learning that I prefer the 11,12,13 mags because I never have feed issues. The longer the spring...the higher the probability of failure (mostly). Anyway, I found a cure. With the concealability of these new micro-nines...I just carry two.

I am actually waiting for a good quality 20round magazine for the range. These +2 round upgrades for avg of $25 aren't really doing it for me. A 20round is needed.

Great video Jay. I’m not a fan of how that extension looks. Plus I thought the idea behind the GX4 was conceal-ability. With the extension on the magazine you lose that.

Jay, my thing is it is a micro pistol that for all intentions is a stack and a half making it higher capacity than a single stack with only 6 to 8 rounds and provides 10 to 12 rounds in the same sized package maintaining excellent concealment. If someone believes they need to carry 15 or more rounds then choosing a firearm that supports such capacity from the factory is IMO the better choice. A factory magazine with a purpose designed follower, spring, and baseplate will most certainly decrease potential failures. Once you start adding extensions to micro magazines you are defeating the intended design purpose of ultra concealability because the only way to accommodate 15 rounds is to make the grip thicker like a M&P 2.0 15 round compact or extend the magazine like what the Lakeline baseplate does but now you have the grip length of a Full size 17 round duty pistol. Deep concealment comes at the trade off of capacity. If you look at the Glock 48 it is the same length grip and slide as the G19 only much thinner and it costs 5 rounds of capacity and to put a 5 round extension on it would be like putting a 25 round magazine in a G19 for a grip length, which is far from concealable. The only way I would consider an extended mag is as a back up should a person not want to carry between 2 and 4 extra magazines. My question now is why does anyone need to carry 30 to 40 rounds on them as part of their EDC? If you need that many rounds then I am going to assume you are involving yourself in endeavors that a law abiding citizen does not have any business being involved in, or that they need to spend more time at the range training to shoot under duress. I have a training routine that I use to mimic the conditions that a person would experience physically if facing a fight or flight life-threatening situation and I do slow accuracy and fundamentals training as well. I'll do some burpies, jumping Jack's, and run in place to get my heart rate up like a person's heart will beat when adrenaline from a confrontation then I will do draw from concealment double tap drills at 7 to 12 yards on a man target. I will also do these same type of drills while on the move because chances are if you are involved in a defensive use of a firearm you are not going to be standing still providing an easy target. I count my rounds as I shoot and then evaluate how many are flyers and how many I successfully put on target. Training frequently from concealment in both a relaxed and mimicked panic state ensures that when you draw it is an instinctively performed act. Repetition develops muscle memory that takes over even when we are not consciously focusing on what we are doing. It becomes autonomous like breathing or a reflex response such as a knee jerk during a medical exam. Having extra capacity serves no greater purpose if your proficiency shooting the firearm is weak. All it does is provide more missed shots and a greater chance of innocent bystanders or unintended targets being hit. I am a Forensic Psychology Grad student, which entails studying and researching all kinds of statistics, characteristics, patterns, time sequences, and so on. One statistic that I found very interesting was that in nearly 90 percent of all shooting events involving two armed participants the exchange's winner is usually determined by who gets off a second round first. Research has found that the first shot by either side is 9 times out of 10 a flyer due to the initial rush of adrenaline experienced during the nanosecond it takes for a person to either commit to the engagement or try to flee known as the Fight or Flight response. If the statistics show that it is the person who fires their second round first that is the victor and these are not suggested to be people who train regularly or anything like that; it suggests that firearm capacity is not nearly as important to actual defense as it is to providing an emotional sense of preparedness. Home defense is a different story IMO because you do not know how many are trying to gain entry an the footprint of the firearm is now a non-factor therefore a 30rnd fun-stick or 50rnd drum in a duty sized weapon is spot on. I carry the G3C with a single mag +1 in the chamber and that is it for my EDC. If I am going into areas where I know that imminent danger is elevated, I will carry spares. That being said, if I need more than 13 rounds on a daily then I am probably somewhere I had no business being and need to be more selective about what I am doing, where I am doing it, and the type of people I am associating with. Just saying.

Once you extend the grip to the length of a full size pistol you might as well carry a full size pistol with more barrel length and sight radius.

wouldnt be surprised if ShopTaurus starts carrying these, as they already have other Lakeline items on the site. side note... ShopTaurus shipped me the +2 and Spring just before Thanksgiving, but the website gives me a popup now saying the item cant be shipped to my state. emailed ShopTaurus about it weeks ago, and never got a reply...

It’s made FAR too cheaply with inferior materials in my opinion. Lake line needs to redesign to eliminate the sacrificial screw, which is probably it’s undoing.

Imo..the 13rd mag is just fine, i don't think it's worth the money just to get 2 extra rounds..i feel.if you can't get it done with 14 then you need to hit the range, lol

Don't understand the obsession with extending magazines. Want 15 rounds? Buy a compact sized gun with factory 15 round magazines. Don't know if you measured yours, but I bet the grip is longer than a G19 or M&P compact. If a person is doing it to get a three finger grip on the gun, they need to be doing some more practicing with the flush fit mags and learn how to shoot with a two finger grip. It's only 9mm. I shoot as well with two fingers as three, and 10-11 rounds are plenty for EDC. Put another mag in your pocket if you think you are going to war. If twelve rounds don't get you out, it's not likely that having four more in the magazine would do you any good. This is a self defense gun, not a duty or hunting pistol.
