Recently, a three year old agric-technology startup, acquired a sixteen year old agribusiness. If the people of Africa can come together to harvest the little rain water they do receive during wet seasons the same way that India did in recent years, Africa would become a produce power house. And if they do achieve such a monstrous feet they need to keep big ag out of the picture. Big ag is a very terrible thing

Just a minor correction - green revolution or industrial farming will be disastrous for African people and the consumers of food grown accordingly. Punjab in India was the green revolution hotspot that had rampant use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Now large number of farmers get treatment for cancer, travelling in a train named Cancer train. Please focus on organic or agro-farming for sustainability and beware of the harmful technologies.

I am from Ghana and a farmer myself, look the village where I am farming is full of fertile soil and a river which can be used as tourist sites, somany opportunities for us especially we the youths but the sad thing is that the youth want fast money, they are not changing to catch up with how technology is changing agriculture,96% sub Saharan Africans have old primitive mentality of farming, the mindset is holding us stagnant.we hardly change.

@@robertgeller7374 I believe you live in a developed country. The reality is that people who get it right in farming will make far more money in developing countries than developed countries. Although, you're right that few make money because even in the developing countries, most farmers lack the know-how of modern agriculture.

check out with your neighbours that live nearby. go out in the woods and look. what grows as "weeds" is obviously loving the soil. then you can google the plant and look for uses. there are even websites and apps which lets you upload a photo of a plant, leaf or whatever and it identifies the plant with pretty good assurance in my experience. also if there is lack in your neighberhood about it or not ofc. though things can change quickly i think. one sure bet, not the least here in northern side of the world, is potatoes i think. even if it doesnt succeed too well or if noone wants to eat potatoes, it can be used as food for the animals. and it grows pretty good in our soil. also, i think trees are great. while "waiting" for them to grow, one could plant and harvest other stuff at same place more or less as Jesus revealed in the holy bible, there are seeds that fell on good soil also you might want to concider taking help of animals ofc. your weeds and shit can be free food for them

Africans. A few important questions to ask: Are the “farmers” the landowners or the labourers? Are they BORROWING money for inputs if so who are they borrowing from? Are they farming genetically modified seeds owned by foreign multinationals?

This guy is not serious. A farmer cannot become a billionaire no matter what. Even if we will have more food, instead of growing, we will simply make a small bread that when it absorbs milk or water expands and fills up a plate. The biscuit will carry all nutrients required. The raw materials will come from direct growing of crops but those people will become millionaires or billionaires. The billionaires will be those who makes those nutritional one meal biscuit. If you wanna become a billionaire. Move up the value chain and study processing.

This is a very rosy projection of what "could" happen. In reality farmers remain poor because the primary beneficiary of agri tech revolution are the fertiliser, pesticide, and seed producers. Farmers practicing conventional, chemical based system that depends very heavily on monoculture practices cannot survive without continuous purchase of those chemicals and seeds. - enslaved. Not too mentions the pollution of water resources due to leaching of chemicals through the soil. Startup that receives too much glut of funding is very risky, there is no way of ensuring accountability. Just like you cannot ensure government to behave honestly to its citizens. Your information is very biased.
