serrot spikester Diamonds are practically worlthless unless they are particularly unique in specific standards assessed using the 4C’s guidelines. The fact that diamonds are the most commonly found & artificially produced precious stone makes them less expensive compared to other, much rarer gemstones like rubies, emeralds & sapphires, for example, which are considerably more expensive than diamonds.

Diamonds maybe forever but rare it certainly is not. Gold is much rarer and much more valuable. Thanks to a stranglehold of the diamond business and one cleaver marketing campaign, De Beers was able to provide mere mortals with as much diamonds as they want, but at a price. Not a fan of diamonds because after watching the markets for awhile, diamonds tend to loose its value a lot. If anyone is going to buy diamonds, buy an F grade one for flawless.

Hi from Botswana I like what DeBeers is doing for my country in terms of the scholarship opportunities but the fact that they basically own most of our diamond profits doesn't help considering the number 1 source of income in Botswana is diamonds

If it wasn't for De Beers, Botswana would still be the poorest country in the world and South Africa would also be much poorer. Lots of sour grapes from competitive companies that came later but all in all De Beeers have done the world a favour and uplifted 3rd world countries employing millions of people and setting the standards for diamond production, security and marketing.

Diamonds are not that rare. Marketing and their association with royalty helps. Diamonds used to be very rare. Now with lab created natural stones? Even professional jewelers can't tell the difference.
