I know that everyone has a different taste when it comes to cars, so I won’t judge you if you’re interested in owning any of these quote-unquote gems of the seventies-I’ll even admit number 15 in our list has that kind of charm only a mother could love.
The Ford Ranchero from 1972 started its run way back in the fifties, but even after almost twenty years in the market, it was still looking like it didn’t fit in the truck category. Adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body, through years of legislation changes they had to modify the car to fit the new regulations, but the model ended up becoming obsolete by 1979 anyway-and not falling into the graces of the American buyer pool.
It eventually would develop a cult following, and a rivalry with the Chevy El Camino.
Both would rage a fierce battle for the title of least truck to ever truck.

A truck is a utility vehicle. The more space the better. All the current crap called trucks are just yuppie expensive toys. I'll take a 70s truck to the crap nowadays anytime. Modern trucks are horrid vehicles, ridiculously expensive toys for yuppies with more money than sense.

I guess you’re entitled to your opinion. I wish I still had my ‘70 El Camino SS 454. Not only was it fast but looked pretty cool in the process. Getting it to hook up was difficult with the light rear end but still a blast to drive.

Yes, the cars of the 70s were strange, but I can't find any of them ugly. I would buy the concept car immediately. The VW was officially not a tuck, but an open transporter. And VW can't have done much wrong, so many craftsmen used it in Germany and some armies also used it.

@@DecadesOfDrivingTV There is an explanation why many Americans view the VW Transporter as a truck: chicken tax!!! Since the VW was very cheap and American companies could not/did not want to compete, the VW was defined as a light truck and 25% import taxes were added to it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tax
