We purchased a Leopard 45 Catamaran to sail around the world. Our channel documents our thought and decision making processes with regards to the preparations of getting her kitted out for our needs. We want to visit off the beaten track places and need to prepare for ice bergs, storms, heavy seas, as well as nice tranquil tropical waters... Follow us on our journey, of which we've done more than 20 000 miles already. Our wish is that you may hopefully live vicariously through our adventures, or take some valuable information with you that might assist you in your endeavors some day.

Thank you, Peter! I was scratching my head too!! I was super happy that there were no current and no wind :-D it did not look so tight from the wide angles, but it was pretty close! Not really newbie stuff, and I could hear on the video that I changed gears, but had no idea why when looking at the video.... I think I just wanted to go slower?

Sorry, Mac, I could have take you guys for a couple more minutes, but it got boring after that... we had more than a metre on both side of Sisu! And I had to decide whether I add the next "leave the docs, which was the Med mooring style, or stop at just one easy beginners one...

I second the experience with the yacht master training, times have changed and catamarans are becoming more prominent so perhaps time for RYA to revisit ?. Good that you show that slow is your can be your friend in docking.

Thank you, Adrian! Yes, I think the schools should start to include cats...we wanted it and the school initially agreed until I mentioned what the differences (in my newbie opinion) are between cats and mono sailing wrt to reefing and heeling, and then they changed their minds...they did not want to risk using Sisu for training after that :-D

@@SailingSisu the Graphics with the controls worked well, it would have been great to be rudder angles aswell, but seeing the rudder don’t do a real lot at them speeds, the throttle controls was enough.. really good!
@SailingSisu
@SailingSisu 2 жыл бұрын
Trev, in some cases cats can use the prop wash to their advantage too. For example, Sisu would have moved faster in the initial turning out if the wheel was turn over hard to starboard side. But for beginners, I wanted to show that cats work like a tank.

Another excellent masterclass, especially the throttle overlays in very close quartering manoeuvering, a pity they didn't give you a hammerhead. IALA A port/starboard colourings which might confuse our american cousins.
@SailingSisu
@SailingSisu 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Mark! The throttle colourings are from the boat's perspective, which I hope is correct :-D or did you saw any markings as we left the harbour? Yes, we had to remind ourselves that the harbour markings changed when we arrived at night in the Caribbean from the Med :-) but luckily, the chart plotter seems to remember that for us :-D

How would You go back to that place- reverse through the valley which is narrow here from the start or forward and than rotate close to berth?
@SailingSisu
@SailingSisu Жыл бұрын
A cat can rotate pretty much on the spot (a monohull too, BTW) so, it is a question of "would the length of the cat fit side ways" if you can find a spot, then I would prefer to go fwd and turn/rotate into the berth
@abrelegowany
@abrelegowany Жыл бұрын
@@SailingSisu Thank You for response. I was wondering if, by using the levers alone, I am able to maintain a straight course while sailing backwards, on a longer and narrow path, especially in strong side winds
@SailingSisu
@SailingSisu Жыл бұрын
@@abrelegowany Yes, you would be able to steer backwards with two throttles only. Just be aware that the rudder will have some serious force on them if you going fast meaning, make sure that lock wheel is tight or that you are holding the wheel very tight
