first time i have watch you. second, i have a box full of old records and i was thinking of using a few as i wanted to make a clock for my kitchen. i really think this is so beautiful. the whole piece is amazing and loved the way you pulled it out. not many colors but it sure has great details. just awesome. ill be watching more now. xo

Records are a great substrate to pour on, these 10” 78s are a little more sturdier than the 12” LPs but I like both and I think you’ll have fun with it! I think it's beautiful! I just did one on a black background using pale umber, powder blue, pewter and silver. In that order. Using white cell activator. I watch you all the time, you have inspired me so much! I've even branched out and started mixing some of my own colors.

Hi Debbie! I know right! I was a little nervous doing the black and white because you can get alot of gray but with the background like I do really gives it drama! I wonder if I can pull off a swipe with these or if there would be too much gray 🤔. 10” are EP records and they play at the same speed as the LP, 33 1/3. I’ve been wanting to ask how you ‘finish’ the backs of the records. Actually how to put a hanger on and what kind? And as always Jodie, I love your blooms. I love your art. I love your experiments. I just love it all. You are awesome

Aww thank you Carole 🥰 EP that’s it! .. but these are those old records that came with a victrola I have so they are a bit heavier in weight. I don’t usually finish the backs as I’ll affix it to poster board or a matte before framing so there’s no need but you can definitely paint the back of it a solid color, maybe one from the piece to give it a more polished look (maybe even spray paint so no lines) if you aren’t going to frame it. To hang it as is you can glue one of those sawtooth hangers on the back, I’ve done that for light MDF pieces and don’t see why you couldn’t with records 🤗

How cool I totally see the gothic window haha 😆 not sure what it's called myself tho but I see it!! I've been using eggshell forever and now it's cracking on me I know it's because it's too thick right now but I have found a couple tricks to get it moving again I either sit my paint by a little heater I got on Amazon for about 20 mins so the paint has time to warm back up or I put it in a plastic bag with no holes and give it a warm bath in my crockpot either way works great to get those paints back to the consistency they need to be but I'm a sucker for a neutral pallet I'm loving this batty bloom kinda ghostly would have been a perfect Halloween piece but I've heard good things about that abalone shell pigment I heard it's stunning under resin so let me know how it comes out!! As always great work!!

Yay! I’m glad you see it too! I actually added a little bit of GAC 800 to the rest of the eggshell I had on my bench so I could get rid of it and it worked out ok. Satin I don’t have the cracking issue usually but thanks for the tips on how to make them thinner I’ll definitely keep that in mind 😃🤗💜

@@ThePaintedDreamer oh your welcome hope it helps all I have is eggshell and it's driving me nuts with it being so thick right now as for all my paints being too thick I did a little 4" bloom last night and couldn't get it to spin out for the life of me and today it's cracked which I expected it would be and wouldn't you know it was a very pretty piece!! Lol always my luck!! Oh I did a little 4" square a while back and glazed it a few days ago I want you to see it, I want to see if you see what I do in it I'm not gonna tell you what it is you gotta tell me 😆 oh do you think it'd be okay to use American floetrol to thin the pillow?? I'm out of gac right now n sometimes I just don't wanna have to wait on my paint to heat up lol but with it being the pillow I didn't know if the floetrol would be okay to thin it with or not

@@cwv-artistry I think I see an email from you so I'm going to assume it's the 4" tile you want me to see ;) .... You can totally use a little US floetrol in your pillow if you need to, don't overdo it though as if you aren't using Aussie floetrol for CA it can mess things up a little but I've used it myself in a pinch. I've even used it in my paints to thin them instead of GAC 800 to see what would happen, it worked out ok, my paints were a little more matte when dried but otherwise it was fine :)

@@ThePaintedDreamer okay awesome I'm gonna give it a shot right now I'm resining stuff every night it seems trying to get stuff done before Christmas I have 100 half done items I have to finish before Christmas plus I have a bunch of ornaments I need to paint the backs of and drill holes in just so much to get done it's overwhelming!! Lmk what you see in the 4" canvas I did lol

Thank you Karen! 🤗 Yes, I like to have the white pillow between the background color so if all goes well as I blow it out there’s a white ring around the bloom to enhance it against the black background color 😃💜

Thank you so much Patty, I’m glad you liked it! So to me a bloom (regular) is you blow it out and then spin or tilt it around the canvas with most falling off the sides (at least in my case!) Whereas what I’m calling a floating bloom you blow it out but you keep the integrity of the bloom in place and not having it stretch out all down and over the sides. I like to have the white pillow directly behind it with a different background color then so it appears as though it is floating on the background. Sometimes it works out better then other times but that’s what I mean when I do floating blooms as opposed to just a regular bloom 🤗💜

Love this, I have a question about using records though… was that just a piece of frog tape that you used to cover the hole? I have wondered what people do about the hole, is that what most do?

Thank you! Yes, I just use a tiny piece of frog tape on the front where I’ll be pouring on to cover the hole, it’s seems to work out well for me. 🤗💜

Jodi; another aaa+ video. Those records are 78rpm. The record player commonly called a victrola. After they are dry how do you finish them? Thanks again for the education.

That’s it! Thank you so much I knew they were a number but my brain was having a moment 😂 I’m so glad you liked it! Once they are fully dried and cured these 78 and also the 12” LPs I like to resin them and then mount them in a frame. I’ll have one to show in my next “Where are they now video” so you can see 🤗

There were a couple cracks that happened in one area because my paint was too thick there but it’s done so it can easily be filled in 🤗

Hi Jodi... what is the difference between the Atelier Interactive Titanium White you mentioned in an earlier video... and Liquitex Titanium white? Does one work better than the other for blooms?

Hi there 😊 if you are using Australian floetrol for your cell activator then a number of different paint brands work well and even give subtle differences in cells. I don’t know that one works better than the other just maybe some slight differences. It’s always been known Amsterdam paint works really well but the community has branched out with other brands now. I’ve not tried the Liquitex titanium white so I don’t know those cells real well I mostly use Amsterdam and some of the Ateiler. The Atelier I’ve noticed can give you a bit more bubbly cells along with the lacing that’s typical. I did do a video testing some different brands of paint I had on hand with the Australian floetrol for cell activator if you want to see what happens 🤗 it’s video 81.

I’m confused. I bought the Valspar ultra hi gloss base c and it is light brown. This hides the colors of the paints. What am I doing wrong?

It shouldn’t hide the color of the paint, when you mix it with your paint, your paint color should come through like other pouring mediums. I’m not sure what light brown means since I’m not there but mine is the color condensed milk like a creamy off white sort of. Check out video 110 I show what my can looks like and how I mix it with the varnish and some paints. If you got a bad can I would take it back.

Jodie, I can’t find valspar anywhere so what do you use to substitute for the valspar

Uh oh, I wonder if you’re in a region that it is out of 😕. Is it the Valspar Ultra Hi Gloss they are out of or also the Valspar Ultra Semigloss? If you can get the semigloss base c totally get it, it works almost identical to the hi gloss. If you can’t get either can you get the SW HGTV Infinity? It’s pricier but works really well. Those are the two I have experience with at Lowes. I have also heard good things about the Valspar Signature semigloss base c and the Valspar 2000 semigloss base c so if you are feeling adventurous and want to try just a quart to see if you like it.
