This video shows the phenomena of polarization of light, the simplest method of producing plane polarised light is by reflection. Malus discovered that when a beam of ordinary light is reflected from the surface of transparent medium like glass or water, it gets polarised and Polarisation by scattering.

This video by Scholars group is excellent for it has a vast amount of information that is pertinent to polarization of light, and is of a high standard. Hi, I have a question when you explain Brewster's law you mention with respect to the surrounding which in the examples was only air say for example the water was with respect to the surrounding which is glass how would you work out the polarising angle?

Why the intensity of light after passing through the first polarizer becomes 0.5 I0? While the intensity passing through the analyzer with theta =0 relative to the first polarizer is the same? Should not it be 0.25 I0?
