16 cord kumihimo Strawberry braid

A video tutorial demonstrating how to braid with 16 cords on the round disk to make a braid with a strawberry design. For close-ups of the braid and the disk set-up please visit this page on my website, where you will also find the quantities required to make a bracelet.

Hi Pru! Thank you for this video, you made it look so easy! I had a go and made a lovely cord with thicker thread that was very successful..... then I went and tried with thinner cord which went well until I realised my strawberries had turned into apples! It's still pretty though, I try to send you a picture....

Great pattern, what thread are you using please ?, I am having a problem getting the larger cap ends with clasps for 16 strands of cotton I use , have you any suggestions please ?.

I am using 1mm satin cord. It is not always easy to find the right size. I buy end caps whenever I see nice ones so that I have a good stock and I always have the size I need. I buy from stitchncraft.co.uk, spoiltrottenbeads.co.uk and riversidebeads.co.uk as well as other places.

By working clockwise would I still get the same design?

Leticia Garcia, she said if you go clockwise you will still get the strawberry designs but it will be off kilter and not as defined by going counterclockwise.

Very nice design Prue, I am enjoying learning as much as I can and trying to make them without mistakes. Within the last week I have made a few and I had my 2 granddaughters with me and we all learned how together. One is 6yrs and the other is 11yrs. We had a lot of fun. Thank you!

As Carol says, you get a slant on the design, which shows more on some patterns than others. It is best to work anti-clockwise for 16 cords.

How do you determine the length of braid to cut off and use ?

Measure the length of the clasp and end caps you plan to use, taking account of how much braid goes into the end caps. Then measure the braid around your wrist while it is still on the disk and add on the length of the clasp etc. A chunky braid like this needs to be longer than a narrow braid, so it is important to measure it around your wrist.

Prumihimo I'm not really sure that you understood my question and that is , how much more braid should you allow than your wrist measurement, maybe I did not ask it properly ?.
