Italy was literally the Empire, not just a part of it, an Empire conquering other land doesn't make it have another nationality. The Roman Empire had almost only italian emperors, an italian language and italian culture. Italy is the only country with a claim on the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire is part of Italian history, so still Italy. The Roman Empire was born on the italian peninsula, was heavily influenced by other Italian tribes (the Etruscans+latins), it had italian Emperors, the language was latin, an Italic language made in the italian peninsula, it had italian culture and i could go on and on. Italy's history starts a lot of time before the Romans too. Saying old italic culture is gone would be like saying Greeks aren't actual Greeks because the ancient Greek culture died out, it just isn't the case. Not even centuries of barbarian invasions could erase Roman and Etruscan culture from the italian peninsula. Italy and the Roman Empire aren't two completely separate things. Italy even signed a peace treaty with Tunisia some years ago for the Punic wars (when Rome burned down Carthage, they didn't sign any peace treaty so they did now.)

Italy is way better than this. Italy is the 8th richest country in 2024, GDP wise. Italy is the strongest country in the EU militarily. Has the 7th best navy in the world and the second best in Europe after the Russian baltic fleet. Italy is the first wine exporter in the world, a founding member of NATO, part of G7 (really important.) Italy has the 2nd best industry in Europe after Germany. Italy has more raw materials than all other European countries except for Russia. Italy is a really big steel producer, only being behind Germany in Europe. Italy has the most UNESCO sites in the world. Italy is the 10th strongest country on Earth. Italy has the best literacy rate in Europe. Italy has a lot of famous brands like Gucci, Versace, Armani, Dolce& Gabbana, Ferrero, Ferrari ect. And i could go on and on.
