It is wonderful to see Masuo and Sazae in the 21st century, married not through an arranged marriage but through love. Moreover, this anime doesn't treat old folk tales as anachronistic and contemptuous like Disney does, but rather respects the originals and creates a world in a completely different time period. The fact that Nampei does not become an understanding and soft-hearted dad for his time, but maintains the single-mindedness typical of fathers of the Showa generation, is also a nice touch. I think this is unique to Japanese animation.
