Dude I really love your channel and this series! I'm out for a boat atm (actually loved the Bavaria 37) and I will book an hour consultation with you to learn if this is the correct boat for me. Also love that you don't take 200 $/h.. 60$ is very reasonable and I'll gladly pay that to get your expertis! See you very soon my man :)

I was on a friend's Bavaria. I couldn't believe how thin the lay-up was. Be vary careful about former charter boats. Nobody really knows how they've been used/abused. You could easily find yourself shelling out for a new suite of sails way before you thought you'd need to

As for my favorite, I will mention a few, like a passport 42ac, a bristol 43.3 or a 45.5, a shannon 43 or 50 ketch and hinckley sou'wester or a Bermuda mid 40s! Hopefully, next year I be able to pick an example of the previously mentioned vessels!

so, found your channel today and already binged my way from 60k to 160k. As you would, when the boat is on the hard. Mine is rather at the other end of the spectrum, a Sirius 26 (Streuer, not the Canadian one) and that also sort of defines what my current dream boat is: a Sirius 310 DS or a 35DS, with the 35 mainly being desireable since the longer hull makes for nicer proportions. The beauty of those boats is, that through the decksaloon layout, they offer the living room of a 40ft/45ft boat on 31/35ft and still are considered to be sailing really well. Here in the Baltic, choices of marinas shrink, when you go above 40ft and 6ft draft, especially so among the Danish islands

Agree with you on the the Bavaria. Good coastal cruiser to sail around the islands. Very little use during COVID years for charters. Be careful with the Amel. These are complex boat with complicated system that will need to be replaced if not already done. The Bristol looks better to me. I Also Like the Beneteau 45 but there is only one for sale at Mooring charter now and they are all hurricane damaged. Not for me. Great video.

Would you cross the pacific in an Oceanis 45 ? Context I live in Australia where 2nd hand boats are a lot more expensive so the retirement plan is to buy in US/caribian or UK/Med and sail home the long way taking 5 to 10 years to do it. Realistic dream boat for me a moody late 90's 42 center cockpit. Unlimited money a HH 44 hybrid Cat

I owned a Bene 41.1 and have sailed the 45 and 48 in rather spirited blue water conditions. These boats are all great in coastal small chop and perform well in light wind conditions, but will knock your teeth out in the open ocean. The comfort ratio on the 45 is 20.99, which is about as low as you can go and the capsize ratio is not that great at 2.14. Great coastal cruisers and Caribbean island hoppers, but not something I want to cross an ocean with. When buying a boat, the first question you need to ask yourself is what is your mission?

Two options with in-mast furling. Great idea for short handing, but what happens when the furling gear craps out and you need to shorten sail? Also, why’s a ketch best for ocean passages. I would have thought all the extra rigging would be a pain in the %#$$ (although I’m thinking short handed).

Hi Tim, I also love Oceanis, but you should also check Elan Impression 45. In my opinion is even better - better layout, more spaces and it doesn't have ugly arch on the top of coach roof ;) If you can find one with 2 cabins, 2 heads layout that is grate. One youtube review of this boat here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNChp9Sj2JPOmok.html The prices for used ones in Europe were lower then Oceanis and practically you get the same boat. The only big downside is the steps in the saloon - but you get used to them as well. ;) I also can not afford one, but I have charted a few of them and they are really nice. In my opinion better value for money then Oceanis. My ultimate boat would be anyhow Amel, but that one is even further from my wallet ;)

First, what's your shirt say, in full? Second, I've fallen in love with your boat's slightly taller sister, the Oceanis 54. Every once-in-a-while I find myself just sort of idly, you know, casing banks or jewelry stores to rob, so I can maybe get one of these boats. Third, why wasn't the rudder bearing tube run, in fibreglass, up to the bottom of that stuffing box? That "mount it at the end of a run of radiator hose" just seems an open invitation to having it seize to the rudder stock. I mean, why wouldn't it? Set up the way it is, it has little incentive to ever move with respect to that rudder stock, and so seizing seem inevitable. I don't think I've ever heard of a propeller shaft where the stuffing box was not mounted to the top of the shaft tube. (Though, I'd have to allow that those engage in much higher RPMs than a rudder shaft ought.)

BUT, as some of your experienced commenters warned ⚠ Some BVI charter buyer experiences were absolute NIGHTMARES ❗ for the buyers (Go read some of the comments in the previous video). BASED on what I have read I would NEVER buy from them without a local lawyer down there, and IRON-CLAD contractual language so they don't "perennially" delay your taking possession. IMO they sell all the time, so they KNOW how to play games with poor inexperienced BUYERS. BE CAREFUL PEOPLE... Remember this is not their FIRST RODEO....⚠

THIS is a very GOOD example of EXACLTY what's wrong with BUYING a sailboat ⚠⚠❗❗ One person on ONE video TYPES in CAPS and SYMBOLS ❗❗ in a scary way. The ACTUAL facts are - hundreds of charter boats are sold every year and of course, you will hear a bad story from time to time. BUT ❗❗ FEAR is not the answer. Get to know a GOOD charter COMPANY and GET a survey before you buy. I am sure there is a WRONG way to DO it. But the IS A right way as well. Without the FEAR MONgerING. For a long time I’ve looked at the charter boats at BVI. I can’t understand why more people do that the purchasing there. I’ve wasted so much time in the US dealing with lazy brokers and people that publish photos of their boats 10 years prior to the listing. Shopping in the US also sucks and has many delays. IMO Oyster provides a living space in the deck saloons that is just amazing. Yet I'm not aware of any episode commenting on an Oyster deck saloon. Also you tend to limit the size of boats for short handled sailing. My experience on the Oyster is that it can easily be sailed single-handed or short handled. Can you address the Oysters?
