I just imagine some Proximan astronomers detecting flashes of xrays and other things from the star system next door and realizing the aliens who'd come to visit had just nuked themselves back to the stone age. That's probably really depressing right around the time you start wondering why the galaxy looks empty.

My question is if WW3 ended in the 2053, how is it by 2068 humanity is able to travel the stars that quickly. Especially with all the destruction that was left from the war? Did Vulcan help them build to where humans could go back to normal that quick?

I like these stories One question. Any planet in the Proxima system that could support life (according to recent knowledge) would most likely be tide locked and could suffer from heavy solar flare activity. Is there anything in the canon that mentions this? Also I wonder what is around Centauri A & B?

At the time there was mention of the Centaurans in various literature, no one knew that was likely, and we still can't actually confirm that's the case, it just seems to be what physics implies. There's also the very likely factor that the Centaurans seem to be some transplanted Humans originally from like the Hellenic period, (Or sometime, anyway,) so the possibility of their whole setup being the doing of like the Preservers or some other super-civilizations or super-beings is pretty big. As such the whole system could have been being altered a long time, compared to what we expect naturally. And, oh, I almost forgot, there's a big question mark about the solar flares from that type star, now, cause they figured out that most of those flares actually come from the star's poles and thus may not actually hit the planets particularly much.

The problem with peacefully exploring is assuming that the first species you contact is not hostile and will then start a invasion of the peacefully explorers homeworld. Note the mirror universe when the vulcans landed(star trek ENT).

I remember reading ST:TOS Pocketbook novels when I was a kid in the '80s that had the first voyage to Alpha Centauri as being in the 2040s. This was well before ST:TNG retconned first contact as being with the Vulcans in 2063.
