So pretty, but I wonder about not using the white and having it completely clear. The light sea glass is drowned out by the white. I reckon sea glass is so pretty it could stand on its own :)…just a thought!

I think the coasters are lovely the way they are. My husband and I went to New Jersey to visit our grand kids. They lived about 15 minutes from the coast, so of course we had to go to the beach. My grandson started whooping I thought he lost his mind. "MawMaw come here quick, hurry, come on." So I ran to him, he pointed at his feet "see it?" He had a piece of sea glass trapped by his foot. I still have that sea glass and a couple more pieces I found. I also have some white sand from under the boardwalk that the grands and I played in. Think maybe I should make a tray or something with my treasures and resin.

I'd guess the glass pieces are not totally flat, so if you put them down on hard resin and poured white over the top, you would likely end up with white oozing under the glass and obscuring it in uneven ways. Since bubbles are always a problem with objects put into resin, pouring the white first, laying on the glass once that is hard and then doing the clear would allow you to see and kill the bubbles before the resin sets. The "excitement at reveal" does not seem as important as having them turn out the best way possible.
@kellyw.1779

I was thinking the same thing about just putting them down and pouring white over them...the white could very well go underneath the pieces and mess up the effect your going for. I think I'd like a lil darker green or blue to replace the really light whiter pieces or just take them out and only have 2 colors...either way would be amazing. The light ones seem to kind of blend in and don't "pop" like the other colors. Adding a tiny bit of fine silver, light blue, teal or white holo glitter to give off a beautiful light sparkle would be gorgeous as well. So many possibilities...love it!

They are lovely as they are. Your idea of the exposed sea glass would be gorgeous with it's matt finish. Just an idea what about using the thicker pieces before putting the resin in, and putting a very thin layer so that when you put the thinner pieces in they come out level.xx

They are beautiful! Caught my eye because I just got some sea glass for something else that didn’t pan out. Consider this. Instead of bright white, make it sandy color. Layer it first. Then a thin layer of sandy color to set the pieces. The a final topcoat. I know 😢 3 steps. It’s going to be a challenge to set the glass without the resin flowing over if it’s colored. Or set the stones In clear. Irrespective. Thank you for sharing 🙏. Beautiful work as always!

Oh you meant for them to look like a mosaic! I think you had the right idea, building the mosaic upside down in a coaster mold. I think your only mistake was that you didn't account for the displaced resin, so the white ended up being a background instead of filling the spaces between the glass like in a mosaic.

I think I would harden a thin layer of clear resin, add the glass pieces, and then add enough clear resin to set them and go about 1/2 up the glass, let it cure, then add a layer of sand, and then a thin layer of clear resin to cover the sand. The sand showing thru the cracks between glass would also look like grout.

I really love these!!! Maybe as an idea to try, do the clear layer, wait for it to set, then put in the sea glass and then just do a layer of the white to fill in the gap of the glasses, not just straight over them (however i agree with someone else comment of the white kind of drown the "light" colour sea glass, but still looks good), and wait for that to set, then do another layer after it has set/thickened......hope that helps if you do it this way again 😀

Beautiful. I was given some glass like this a friend picked up from Bunnings. The colours are absolutely gorgeous but they look to me like broken glass not sea glass. My next investment is a rock tumbler and I plan to tumble the glass to wear it down more. I hadn’t finalised my design yet but was thinking similar to what you have done, however keeping with the beach theme I want to try a very thin first layer then place the glass followed by adding beach sand in between the glass pieces. I was thinking a pale blue to cover. Any thoughts?

Beautiful! I make seaglass in resin pendants and leave the seaglass sticking proud of the resin so it has that beautiful frosted finish still but like you said that might be tricky for a level coaster. If you pour clear first can you wait until resin is solid enough not to ooze into gaps but liquid enough to stick to glass so white resin doesn’t sneak under the chunks? Looking forward to seeing your next version 😊

These are really pretty, Julie. I love them 😊 I'm curious, if you let the first layer set and then pour the white over the sea glass, will the white not flow *under* the sea glass? How do you stop that from happening?
@Valadhiel76
@Valadhiel76 Жыл бұрын
Hello there. I think I see what you were trying to do, but I feel that the white seaglass has gotten lost in the white base. One thing that I was thinking that may or may not work is if you pour the clear resin, let it set, place the seaglass, and then pour just the tiniest layer of white resin to fill the cracks as you originally envisioned. Then you let that set. Then finally, you pour a black base (or a base other than white). I think all colors of the seaglass, including the clear, may not get lost, and then the white resin within the cracks will stand out with the black base. I could, of course, be totally wrong. 🙂
