There are SO many misconceptions about hiit because of "influencers" calling any type of cardio "hiit". It was time we had an episode dedicated to this topic. Amazing

Fitness marketing today sells us TABATA as HIIT modality. TABATA is anaerobic glycolytic training. HIIT is meant to increase VO2max (cardiovascular training). You achieve this by being 30-50% in the 90% zone of your Vo2max in the total training session. Because HR is somewhat linear (not in every type of exercise, but in hiit mostly) with oxygen uptake, you HAVE TO MONITOR HR to see if you were in the "red zone" 30-50% of your training session. To program HIIT you have to make proper diagnostics for a form of HIIT modality that you choose. HIIT long requires progressive load test or 30-15 IFT for HIIT SHORT. ONLY THEN YOU CAN PROGRAM HIIT TRAINING!

Hiit is great way to train and condition yourself, but making sure you rest a day or two after, depending on how quickly you recover, is very important. Going all out is very taxing on the body so do this practice sparingly.

Great info on HIIT and this makes complete sense! I’ve actually avoided this type of training because of what you guys said of training your body until you can’t move. I want to start phasing in HIIT into my strength based workouts to hopefully improve my strength gains.

I absolutely love your programs ... I am 42 and a travel ER Nurse. Here is why I deserve MAPS HIIT. I have spent the last 8 years getting away from cardio and my main fitness modality. I competed as a powerlifter for 3 years and built some amazing muscle. Last year I found mind pump and switched to your programs to be better as I age. I currently use aesthetic combined with prime and add in the 3 big lifts. Now I am heading to Cancun for my first time in January and I want to shred down and show off what I have built on the beach.

I'm always lost while doing HIIT, so I stopped doing it because I was afraid of getting injured and didn't really know what should I do, although I've searched about it a lot and I've talked about a lot of trainers about it. But I always felt like making the client tired was more important to them than doing the proper HIIT. Thanks for dedicating an episode to this topic

I have been in a journey to optimize my body and mine for the rest of my life ( building life patterns and routines). I got to say this podcast is one of the big info pillars in that journey. Along with Huberman Lab, Peter Attia’s the drive, found my fitness, and a sprinkle of Tom Bilyu. But as far as building muscle and exercise this is the strongest one in that category. And in conjunction they are extremely powerful! Thank you so much guys. The world needs more people like you guys that are not trying to completely monetize their knowledge and pay Walling everything. And in my estimation it’s more effective to give the basics but still infinitely useful information out, and pay wall details or more advance information. I for example now really want to buy one of your MAPS programs for my family members and friends. And the few for myself!

WOW - I completely misunderstood HIIT for all the reasons you said - what I saw trainers doing, what was in media and what I read in magazines - had it going too hard with random movements, which had me shy away from it, for I was afraid of injury. Very intrigued about this is least muscle loss, but it makes sense, if you look at a backside of a sprinter and they are WELL developed. And can look at difference of HIIT to long state cardio, by looking at body of sprinters vs marathon runner.

I'm almost more determined to win one of these then I am on my fitness journey at this point. You guys continue to ball out, your dissemination of HITT training and it's physiological kind of deficiencies when it comes to fat loss and muscle growth has been no lie illuminating for me. With the information you guys have provided I went from cardio at the end of every session 10 min HITT sessions 100 calories at least burned. To walking 10 mins 3 times a day is my go to. Keep on doing the damn thing you guys are helping honestly address our nation's biggest epidemic obesity. Lastly, Adam looks like he just quit his job at the resort restaurant to finally follow his dream of being a personal trainer. Sal looks like he just closed up his surf shack and somehow wandered into a podcast recording in session. Justin looks like he finally realized he doesn't even like lumberjacking and would rather get swole for a living. Keep on killin them guys.

HIIT training is what I do when I'm late for work and I try to run as fast as I can to get to work fast, but then I can't run so I have to walk, but then a minute or two later, I remember I'm late and sprint again until I can't. BTW, I usually either walk or ride my bike to work. I heard about HIIT in like 2010 and it was pretty new then. I love you guys-especially Sal's shirts!!

I think Sal needs to get some eye drops. my man blanks like a maniac! I can't believe Sal brought up fartlek training.. as an ex-runner this was a mainstay, basically translates to fun run... you run hard as long as you want and then run easy until you want to run hard again. it's a method of interval training for runners, but at your own discretion. Adam needs to do the MAPS HIIT program by the looks of it,, Big Dog's got a ponch, or he needs to sit up straight. lol i wouldn't change anything because I love Justin and listening to him, but tank should not have been placed in LA.. this beast should have been set up in northern Canada, that's where this man would thrive.. he's more man than most anyone I know. yet he does less manly stuff than the men I know. solely because there is not enough wood to chop, or trees to chop down, or bears to scare off.. Tank....... move to northern Canada, and podcast remotely.

This reminds me of Beach Body workouts. A lot of people sign up with misinformed people who aren’t qualified to lead others in a health and fitness journey and a lot of people are severely deconditioned to be able to do those workouts effectively. It’s not safe first off, and second off those programs fail so miserably because they aren’t sustainable in the long term. Meanwhile people look at you like you have three heads when you tell them you lift heavy and eat a ton, even if it actually works.

I m a personal trainer from Lebanon. I have been training for more than 10 years. And I have this q. why trainers use these style of hiit and exercise combo with loots of tools.like squats on a bosu with banded rowing or using vipr weight to do cardio exercises. And what is shooking me that their clients love it and I heard them I love this training I don't want weights. And u look i train like 6 to 8 hrs per day. But they do 8 to 10 hrs a day. Like my clients knows the difference but new people coming to hire a pt tend to love this extraordinary exercise
