They apparently changed the fluid to full synthetic. It helps, but you have to learn how to drive it to avoid the ruff shifts. My old 14 Sierra had the same issues. The Oem torque converter is trash

There are two automatics for the 2nd gen Colorado - 6 speed and 8 speed. You need to identify which one you are talking about. Problems with the 6 speed were corrected by reprogramming. The 8 speed problem in some of the transmissions is usually fixed with new fluid and, sometimes, replacing the torque converter.

HI. EVERYONE. IVE GOT SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT ABOUT THESE TRANSMISSIONS TO TELL YOU ALL. IF YOU GET THE SHUDDER AND THEY DO THE FLUSH. MAKE SURE THE DEALER RESETS THE TCM (Transmission Control Module) AND THE ADEPT. I HAD MY TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE SHUDDER CAME BACK WORST AFTER THE FLUID CHANGE. AFTER THEY RESET THE COMPUTERS IT SMOOTHED OUT AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES AND HAS BEEN PERFECT SINCE. They will try to tell you they found no issues or can’t replicate the problem. On the computer everything looks fine but it isn’t. The new fluid works differently than the old having the trans computers having to relearn to shift and drive smoothly is a must. I almost made them buy the truck back. The tech finally said let’s try to reset the systems. The computer relearned to shift and what a difference it makes!!!

My 2017 had to go in at 10K miles. Replaced the torque converter and replaced all fluid with a different type of fluid. Been good ever since. This should be a recall. The only thing I don't like about my 4x4 is that because I don't have the Z71 package, the 4X4 indicator light doesn't show on my dash. Steering wheel hides the knob. I think this is a crappy thing to not put on the dash. Even my really old early 90's Chevy had the indicator light!

Thanks Matt. I’ll be paying more attention. I was driving a CVT (Prius) for the last 6 years before getting the truck. Just the feeling of shifting was bizarre to experience, and felt wrong. I have a 2016 Z71 Trail Boss. I took it in the mountains yesterday and experienced the complaint that's where the truck is constantly upshifting and downshifting. I'm guessing this is why GM went with the 8 speed transmission, so the shift points wouldn't be so pronounced?

My 18 does same thing in morning only and believe it or not, it is "normal". It's because the temp of the fluid, if you put it in drive and say pull out of your garage etc, it won't do it. If you listen carefully you can actually hear it "calm down", thats how I know it won't do it in the mornings! Try it out and see what I mean. Hope yours does same thing! I'll say it again if I haven't said it already. there is nothing wrong with this transmission. the problem with the transmission is the fluid. you need change fluid and transmission filter every 45,000 miles and you have any issues. as soon as you feel it shuddering you need change your fluid. most people continue to drive the vehicle with the torque converter slipping. the torque converter clutch then gets glazed and the problem gets progressively worse.

30,000mi my wife’s torque converter had to be replaced. Here we are again at right around 55,000mi and we’re starting to notice the same symptoms again... it seems this problem is going to be a reoccurrence every 30,000mi... I’m to the point where we’re considering doing a manual transmission swap on the truck. Either that or we’re going to have to offload the truck. Our symptoms didn’t include intense vibration, ours felt more like inconsistent acceleration. At first it’s really hard to differentiate between a rough road surface or inconsistencies in the driveability of the truck - it feels almost exactly like a slightly rough road surface. Then as time goes on you start to notice serious problems where your acceleration is extremely inconsistent. I hope you don’t have a problem bud, because it sucks big time. And it’s really going to suck when the warranty runs out...

I have a 2018 4wd that I bought new and the transmission is terrible. I've had other issues like the rear end needing to be rebuilt twice within 3k miles. The second time was because the dealership messed up. But it occasionally clunks when coming to a stop and sometimes the shifts are just terrible. They changed the fluid but the problem persists. It also whines between 55-70. Chevy said while it is noticeable its within what they consider acceptable. That started around 800 miles. I wont be keeping it past the warranty.

That vibration when you accelerate is because your car does not have enought transmission fluid you need 6qt. Of transmission fluid. I drained my trucks transmission fluid and found out it was a small amount that drained in The pan so i towed it to the dealer and get the recommended amount and as i picked it up theres no vibrations anymore.

Some of the 2020 models have a TSB (technical service bulletin) that says "transmissions under-filled from the factory. Recommended procedures are to flush and refill with new fluid." They don't communicate with customers until an issue is present. Similar issues persist even afterwards, usually when in cruise control at around 45 mph, or normal driving between 35-40 mph when going up a slight incline. As if it doesn't want to downshift. This "shudder" that it feels like can be confused with rough pavement, but is a concern to the longevity and driveability as it's only got 21k miles at 1.5 years of ownership. It also may not help that it towed a u-haul 800 miles before the fluid was flushed. Keep the conversation going if anyone can, about these issues. It can certainly help.

Mine is a 2016 and the truck is dumped practically, with 2 times at the shop with repairs that took 3 months the first time and 4 months the second time, now all the transmission fluid is all on the floor, waiting for a towing truck to take it back to the shop! Very unfortunate because I really like the body shape, but aweful transmission! Good luck with yours.

Yeah the colorado's have a problem. I have a 2017 and I noticed it about a month after I got it. It starts off suttle at first, like you ran over a rumble strip but it progressively gets worse and worse. I took my truck back to the dealership 3 times now for the same problem, The first time I took it there, they said they couldn't find anything wrong......yeah I wrote down the milage before and compared it with after, and yes they couldn't find anything wrong, because they never road tested it. The second time I took it back, they replaced the torque converter. It worked great up until a year later, then the problem started again. So I took it back for the third time, and they changed the fluids. Now the problem is gone, but there is a new problem with the new fluid. Now under low acceleration, it shifts really hard. Its kind of like driving a standard car, and while accelerating you quickly drop the clutch in and out really fast. You feel it rev up, and jerk forward a little. It happens most often when trying to park your car and on the accelerator very lightly. Also when you decelerate to make a right turn it downshifts really hard, and jerks the truck. If you are heavy on the accelerator, it happens less often but if you accelerate slowly or are cruising lightly it will happen more often.

It goes away. I keep requesting a test drive and they told me “if we can’t find a problem then we will get you to test drive with the tech” but they have yet to find a problem , and they say there is no problem so don’t need a test drive . Going through the transmission thing now. I experienced the issue at 300 miles on my 2019 ZR2. Dealer performed the trans flush and it did resolve a low rpm(1200) shudder as you described. After getting some more miles on the truck I started to drive it harder and discovered I now have a serious issue at about 3500 rpms under heavy acceleration. Went back to dealer where they said a bulletin came out from the factory that said the adaptive transmission needs to be reset along with the flush, so they did that and sent me on my way to see how it goes. Didn’t go well... Went back and drove another brand new ZR2 and man what a difference! Zero to 60 was way better, no hesitation, no transmission growling, just gets the power to the ground. I now have an open TAC with Chevy waiting to hear what they will do. Can’t express how upset I am after spending 45k for a truck that does not perform...

I had complained about it since I hit the 2000 mile mark and at 32000 mile mark they did the fluid change at 34000 miles they finally agreed there was an issue and replaced the transmission, unfortunately it is what they call new rebuilt transmission and not a new new one. The truck feels like it did at 2000 miles and seems to be getting worse trouble with finding 2nd and 3rd and when getting off the freeway occasionally a hard down shift. I am at ends.
