I'm not sure but I really think jeans were more durable in the beginning. People didn't have money to replace them and their work was much harder generally, so their clothes had to last a long time. I'm 77 and I remember much thicker denim.

Hi Dottie F, My husband and I had this conversation a few years ago about how when we were younger, and back in the 1970's, our jeans lasted for years. For the past maybe 20 years I've had to buy him a set of new jeans every year. He wears them to work and at home. Walmart started carrying Levi's, I thought great I'll get him several pairs and these will last, not. A month later he had rips and tares all over them. The Levi's I bought in 1977 I wore until 1985, because I gained weight and they no longer fit, not because they wore out. And I washed them every time I wore them too. I find it hard to grow old and remember how good things used to be and no longer are. These kids will never understand how badly they are being screwed over, because they don't know how good it used to be. ☺️✌️🖖👵👴 😷

I put away a couple pairs of my favorite jeans when I got pregnant with my son, about 30 years ago. (Planning on wearing them again when I lost the baby weight, but then forgot about them!) Found them in a box a few years ago, I was SHOCKED by the difference in the materials! When I put them away, I thought the old ones were well worn, faded and soft, but in perfect condition otherwise. But, comparing them to some I'd just bought a few months before was really eye opening! The fabric is *maybe* 1/3rd of the weight/thickness and the color retention was just ridiculous! The old "faded" jeans were still several shades darker than the pairs that were only a few months old (and washed 3 or 4 times, compared to the ones that had been washed probably close to a hundred times over the 4 or 5 years I wore them before putting them away! Where I think they've been able to get people to accept this is the trade off in softness. My old "butter soft" jeans, really aren't soft - never were and never will be compared to the new fabrics. For all their failings, the newer fabrics are smooth, forgiving and truly very, very soft, from the first wash. We've traded jeans that were made with phenomenal fabrics that wore like iron, for jeans that have a little give and are as soft as old flannel jammies. Yes, we're getting screwed, especially if you're looking for the work pants that they were originally made to be, those days seem to be over.

Great fun info, so here’s 1 I didn’t know- in your car next to the little gas tank that tells you your fuel level is also an arrow to indicate which side the tank is on, this actually comes in handy if you’re fueling up a rental or someone’s car. You know which side of the tank to pull up on

The thing with keyboard keys allignment is not to slow you down, but quite opposite: to allow you type faster without the keys getting stuck in by clinging together. They have checked which letters go together the most often an moved them further from one another, so that pressing them in a short time would not block the machine. So you are right about the not-to-clutch part here :) My favourite feature I did not know was the food-warming part of an oven :)

It’s not a warming drawer. I’ve had a few ovens over the years an one of them had a warming drawer which had an element inside and a switch to turn it on. Ovens with no switch it’s just for storage
@PsycheDancer
@PsycheDancer 4 жыл бұрын
@Rick Baan Same here. I don't believe there is any hard and fast rule about the drawers. I've used both warming and broiler drawers and have never seen a separate switch! To use, you just turned on the oven like usual. I'd really say if you don't know what you've got, and can't access a manual, turn on the oven, then get down there and really look and feel to see what you've got. I do believe *most* electric stove/ovens have storage drawers, but wouldn't bet my good cookware on it, as I have seen/used one of those with a broiler drawer, too!

The qwerty keys set up wasn't to slow people down it was to space out the most commonly used letters so the typewriter arms of those letters weren't side by side because the would get stuck on each other if hit simultaneously. They didn't want to slow typing down, it was to speed it up by not having to stop to fix tangled letter arms.

It is interesting, but I learned that the ridges and smooth sides on the various coins were there for the blind. Dimes and quarters have ridges and nickels and pennies do not. In this way, someone who is blind can feel the outside rim and the size of the coin and know what it is. I've also learned in typing classes that the keyboard letters are in that order because of how often they are typed together in words. For instance e d and e s are close to each other because you use them so frequently together. I heard that a study was actually done with the most used words and the keyboard was designed based on the results.

Thank you for all the neat little items that you shared. I just this week also found out what the gas cap holder was used for ( a guy shared it, just came over, put my cap on the hanger. Never said a word hurt hung it and walked back to his car) as well as the spaghetti hole. I remember years ago my Mom had a gadget with several holes that was 1,2,3,4 or 5 servings. But other than those two, everything else was new to me...TY

@@bubgum00 Sometimes you have a bag that you don't want to wear to go shopping. Maybe it's too fancy or too nice, so you can just take the little piece of leather/cloth with you match a pair of shoes or an outfit.

Not all ovens have a warming drawer. Sometimes the drawer is exactly that, a drawer. Check your owners manual to find out before trying to use it as such. Some even have a broiler in the drawer if it's a gas stove. Sending love and blessings!
