I'm old enough to have seen Pele, Maradona, Beckenbauer, Rumminege, and many other greats play, and none had the touch, the ball handling skills and the ability to run at full speed while maintaining the ball two feet or less from their feet like Messi does. Unbelievable.

It's not just Messi touch, but the plush billiard ball playing surface, light synthetic ball & light boots that are key factors. On the muddy surface with heavy leather balls & boots in Pelé , Di Stefano, Maradona, days. The ball would move slower on muddier surface & the ball slower, being heavier made of leather, even worse when it got soaked in rain. The ball wouldn't move like a balloon & glide on the plusher playing surface like we see here.
