These videos are in no way meant to replace the purchasing of commercially produced DVDs of SCTV. Making this series available is in no way meant to break copyright law. I am hoping fans of the series will have renewed interest in SCTV and will spread the word about this Classic Canadian Comedy Legend.
I have included all 185 episodes of the Syndicated Series of SCTV. Please note that the Syndicated Series has material not available on the current crop of DVDs, and also that the DVDs have material not available in the Syndicated Series. Please note that there is also material not available in either.
This means that at this time, the complete series is not commercially available for purchase. I hope you will consider signing the online petition at www.change.org/p/shout-factor...

I remember the real Joey Heatherton bouncing on a trampoline singing the Stones song Jumping Jack Flash on some variety show or other. Of course she couldn’t sing at all. It was so silly it stuck with me.

The dancers chasing after her...pure comic gold!

Those dancers were named after SCTV costume designer Juul Haalmeyer and Juul himself was one of the dancers along with cast members and staff whoever was available. None were trained dancers and Catherine O'Hara asked for bad dancers to be her backup dancers and the Juul Haalmeyer dancers proved to be so popular they were brought back to SCTV several times. Eugene Levy is one of the dancers, he's in the middle and Juul Haalmeyer is to his right front row.

The “Lonely at the Top” song is one of O’Hara’s most brilliant moments, in anything, _EVER._ I really wish I knew who wrote the music and lyrics….I know it’s got to be out there somewhere, but I’ve never been able to find it. She and Andrea Martin were the heart and soul of that show!

Lola's "obituary" is hilarious. Boy did she marry some losers!! (I wonder if they just used cameramen or stage hands as actors for the shots of her husbands to save money-as SCTV had a shoestring budget) Earl's outburst (05:26) is a spoof of when ABC anchorman Frank Reynolds erupted during reporting of the Reagan assassination in March 1981 (the same year this clip referred to)

The Juul Haalmeyer dancers were actually comprised of Juul Haalmeyer the costume designer for SCTV and various cast members along with staff of the show, thrown together and given a dance routine. None were actually trained dancers but the joke was that they were such bad dancers that fit in with the SCTV network's low budget productions.

Earl's rushing to report on Lola, however, had far more in common with CBS anchorman Dan Rather who long had a mania for being first with a story regardless of whether it was true or not - and which, by the end of his career with CBS, caught up with him big time. Roger Mudd reported on this unsavory aspect of Rather - get the story out first, regardless of accuracy - in his memoirs about his years with CBS News ("The Place to Be: Washington, CBS News, and the Glory Days of Television News"). (Rather was in the anchor chair three weeks, having taken over from Walter Cronkite, when the ATTEMPT on Reagan's life occurred. Reynolds' outburst was over conflicting reports on Reagan's press secretary, James Brady, who was seriously wounded in that attempt - but died many, many years later, never the same after that shooting.) But this was not the only case of real-life newscast incidents being spoofed on "SCTV." I can name others: - The Season 2 episode of the Melonville general election, where Earl was doubling as both SCTV News anchor and campaign manager for Johnny LaRue's bid for Melonville West City Council (to the point of wearing LaRue campaign buttons on both sides of his jacket lapel) - and, at episode's end, facing investigations for breach of journalistic ethics, conflicts of interest, et al. - seemed a spoof of the real-life saga of Lisa Howard (1926-1965), an ABC News political reporter and anchor of a five-minute midday newscast, "News with a Woman's Touch," who in late Summer 1964 became part of a group of New York liberals (among them being writer Gore Vidal) who comprised a group, "Democrats for Keating," which supported the re-election bid of incumbent GOP Senator Kenneth Keating against his Democratic opponent, Robert F. Kennedy; she insisted she could report on the Senate campaign impartially even as she was working behind the scenes to stop RFK, but nonetheless ABC suspended her on Sept. 29, 1964, and then by the time of the election fired her outright. Ms. Howard filed a $2 million lawsuit alleging damage to her reputation and career, but it was dismissed in early 1965; when they fired her, they also cited, in their justification for sacking her, her conduct as she was making her second special on Cuban leader Fidel Castro, in 1964, "Cuba and Castro Today," which made a permanent enemy of ABC News' then-boss, Jesse Zousmer (1912-1966), who in its wake retaliated against her viciously in her last remaining months with the network. (Had Floyd Robertson existed and worked there at the time, he may well have confronted her in the hallways leading to and from the newsroom about whether she had a "Castro fetish," in the same way as in a first-season episode where Earl was doing stories revolved around dogs, Floyd snapped at him and his "dog fetish.") Despondent over not only the loss of her career, but also a recent miscarriage, she committed suicide by drug overdose on July 4, 1965. - The Season 3 episode where Earl sat silent for 2 minutes waiting in vain for a filmed or taped item about a bus race to come up sounded like a spoof of a moment towards the end of one late night newscast on KNBC (Channel 4) in Los Angeles wherein anchor John Schubeck (1936-1997), seeing an item he'd read on the teleprompter only 10 minutes before, sat stone-faced, motionless, not saying a word, for the remaining 2 minutes of the newscast before "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" commenced. - In the Season 1 episode "The Hefty Neil Story," as Earl was previewing lurid sex items, they sounded almost like a rewrite of selected items cited by Mike Wallace (1918-2012) as he interviewed San Francisco station KGO-TV's general manager, Russ Coughlan (1919-1990), with regard to the station's news priorities as part of a piece he reported on about the Frisco local TV news ratings wars; he mentioned only 58 seconds were devoted by KGO to national and international news, with most "important" items either scantily dealt with, or not dealt with at all, while the rest of the newscast (sans commercials) was devoted to fires, crimes, sex, tearjerkers, animal stories, exorcism, the occult, etc., and of course sports and weather (which led media critics to speculate the station's calls as standing for "Kickers, Guts and Orgasms") - the type of "journalism" road Earl went and which "values" he exemplified and emulated. (For obvious reasons, SCTV's writers couldn't have reworked the infamous time KGO reported - with the proverbial "film at 11" - on a man's severed privates found along railroad tracks in/around Oakland.) To put this in perspective, the SCTV tease on interviews with "victims of the Midnight Rapist" sounded like it was rewritten from "the Nashville Stomper" which KGO had reported on one night.

At the end Lola waking up was a take on Dororthy waking up at the end of the classic movie The Wizard of Oz circa 1938....15:20 seriously , my all time favorite Rock band The Tubes . I thought they were best in the mid to late 1970s . They did a lot of skits, satirical songs and jabs at the "me generation" , fine musicians could play anything and really rock too . this song Talk to Yah later was a commercial hit early 1980s, but was funny too . Its about a guy who picks up a female some friday night, takes her home, she's a chatter box and driving him nuts for the past 6 months. One of the Tubes most infamous songs was White Punks on Dope . I remember them telling great host Tom Snyder on the late night Tomorrow Show it was actually an anti drug addiction song .

Lola's immortal lyrics: I wake up every night in bed and panicked thinking that I'm dead no chance for love I feel my fading heartbeat stop No one cares No one loves me Yes life's so lonely... At the top You buy and sell my autograph but in your eyes I hear a laugh Its just as if you slapped me with a kid glove No one cares No one dares to You're all just parasites draining me of love.. You know who I'm talking about! Mr. Guy Caballero! Tramp! They call me a tramp! Put me on the rack ewewewe Until we hit the sack Wha you're afraid I'm going to name names? Mr. Bobby “How was I?” Bitman Mr. Johnny “Why don't you just suffocate me” Leroux Count Floyd you're so bad its scary! Bob and Doug you hosers! I love you all! ...
