Hey Bette- my favorite monotype paper is Thai Kozo - from Dick Blick ;)

Do you have any advice on treating the edges of the paper once it's trimmed, to minimize lift?

Use a heat gun with gentle heat along the edges. Put parchment paper over the top and gently burnish the edges-that should prevent lift!

Hi Pam. Is the melting point of an encaustic medium higher than just the layer of beeswax? Are you using just the beeswax because it is softer and your thinking is that the paper will sink into the plain beeswax layer better at a lower temperature vs using an encaustic medium base coat? Is that paper like a sumi ink paper?

Yes - due to the damar resin in encaustic medium it is slightly higher (about 20-30 degrees higher). I use the beesax alone mainly because it is less expensive; one less component - but you can use encaustic medium and RF paints, for example - it is fine - just has one more ingredient. I use beeswax as a base layer but could easily use encaustic medium - either is likely fine. Once cooled, I don't think the added resin encaustic medium would make too much difference. My favorite paper is Thai Kozo - you can get it from Dick Blick! Have fun!!

Might be late to this but using gloss polymer to glue wouldn’t work as well?

Yes I've done that as well - when the wax is not too thick, I use gel medium to adhere to a wooden panel :)

Is it necessary to rub with the spoon after you gently use your hands to try to adhere the print into the warming wax? It seems that once you use the torch, it’s going to be well adhered already. Beautiful piece!

Adhesion can be a bit tricky; and I’m not using a torch as this is thin paper -just a heat gun. Burnishing with a spoon ensures better adhesion but you are right-it seems pretty well adhered as long as you press it firmly into the wax

@@PamelaCaughey You’re correct! My mistake; I should’ve said heat gun. Did you find any blurring of your fine lines in the print?

Hi Pam, great tutorial! Why plain beeswax as opposed to the beeswax/damar resin mix used often? My thoughts are that when you lightly fuse at the end a wax/resin would hold it better in the long run with the “tougher” layer. Thanks for addressing this for me.

@@sugould5477 I think it would like work fine but higher heat would be required for encaustic medium vs plain beeswax so not having to use as much heat may be part of the success ;)
