These recordings are from live Satsangs in Melbourne, Australia.
Satsang is a Sanskrit term derived from two roots: sat meaning "true’"and sangha meaning community, company or association. It can be translated as "associating with good people" or simply "being in the company of truth," and refers to the act of gathering with Sattvic-minded, uplifting beings, especially spiritual seekers.
Satsang is different to any course or lecture because the energy field in it allows for clarity, stillness, and expanded awareness to be experienced by those who seek it.
Whenever something increases your awareness of the Truth, it opens your Heart and quiets your mind.
Satsang is one of the most effective means of transcending your mind and staying in egoless state which can be called enlightenment, liberation, freedom, moksha, nirvana or simply abiding in Self.
We call our satsang lovingly as Bhagavan Satsang as they are all due to his grace, Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi.
According to Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi Satsang means only Atma Sang(Association with Self). Those who are trying to be in Self can come in the company of realized beings/Sadhus/Saints/Sages and that is also Satsang. Those who come in the company of Jivanmuktas also become Jivanmuktas.
Bhagavan explained the importance of Satsang by quoting Tayumanuvar, Suta Samhita, and Kaivalya Navanitam.
Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi is widely thought of as one of the most outstanding Indian spiritual teachers of recent times. Having attained enlightenment at the age of 16, he was drawn to the holy mountain of Arunachala in southern India and remained there for the rest of his life. Arunachala mountain itself is considered to be self manifested Lingam, incarnation of Lord Shiva. Just by looking at it with reverence liberation will happen.
Attracted by his stillness, quietness, and teachings, thousands sought his guidance on issues ranging from the nature of God to daily life.
The philosophy of Advaita or Non-Duality has become, along with Buddhism, one of the most popular spiritual paths being pursued by those interested in enlightenment today. During the past three decades, Advaita has become more widely recognized in the West through the ever-growing popularity of Ramana Maharshi. His point of view has for its aim Self-realization. The central path taught in this philosophy is the inquiry into the nature of Self, the content of the notional 'I-thought'. Carl Jung wrote of Ramana: “Sri Ramana is a true son of the Indian earth. He is genuine and, in addition to that, something quite phenomenal. In India, he is the whitest spot in a white space. What we find in the life and teachings of Sri Ramana is the purest of India; with its breath of world-liberated and liberating humanity, it is a chant of millenniums.”
Om Peace Peace Peace.

It's always a pleasant surprise to discover a video of David Godman that i've not watched before. Can't think of anyone with so much exposure to not only Bhagavan but many others including papaji and Nisargadatta... What a blessed karmic life of dedication and service... All the while being polished as a rare gem of information including hidden or overlooked pointers we likely won't find from anyone else... Thank you... Namaskar

A devotee went to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and said ,there’s a man who is chanting his mantra for money and Ramakrishna said “ whether he jumps in the water or is pushed in, he will get wet”, he was saying, regardless of his intention,overtime his mind will get purified,

Bhagavan explained: "At the initial stage to develop bhakti (devotion), mantras should be repeated aloud and only by such constant practice control of mind can be acquired. It will be felt difficult to control the mind and do meditation at the initial stage. Hence utterance of mantras aloud can be successfully accomplished at the beginning stage. For a novice silent concentration cannot be achieved easily unless he has past merits (purva-punya) to his credit. "Sri Tukaram and other great saints used to tie salangai (small bells) around their legs and hands and do bhajana, dancing and jumping with ecstasy throughout the night. But during day time they would remain in samadhi. Likewise without allowing sleep to overcome and devour our time the mind should be concentrated on Ishvara (God). "In the later stage vichara (Self-enquiry) becomes very easy and itself includes all, i.e., sravana, manana and nidhidhyasana-hearing, reflection and uninterrupted contemplation." - From the diary of N.N.Rajan, 18-32-43, recorded in the Mountain Path, Vol.8 No.1, 1971 Letters and Comments

Sense of humor: Among the Jnanis of recent times, Sri Papaji had great sense of humor. If you hear his satsangh sessions on you tube you will find the audience roaring with laughter. When he narrated some episodes from his life, I remember we, the young students in late 1960s, used to roll on the floor, becoming almost breathless with uncontrollable laughter. In his divine presence, the mind used to be supremely tranquil with no occurrence of thoughts and yet we enjoyed his jokes immensely. Great moments of experience of state beyond the sense of Time !!

The 'I' seeks control over all it witnesses - no mystery there! God takes ten steps to our one - of course; a happy, minor mystery. But Bhakti, arising in an ignorant soul, now there! is a mystery!

It is interesting that many of the “big” names associated with Sri Ramana (eg, Lakshmana, Annamalai, Papaji) each undertook japa intensely. It must be an excellent means for quietening the mind, the precursor for extinction by the Self. And given Sri Ramana himself heard the name Arunachala repeating effortlessly within since a young child, it makes me wonder if Sri Ramana’s main practice in the life just prior to his final one, was japa yoga.

David s quoted text by Ramana where he alleges a recommendation of the mantra I I , Ramana makes clear that the “mantra” I I has the effect of keeping us with the “sense” I am, Raman stresses that because I is a universal signifier for the Self, repeating the mantra keeps us focused on the sense I am and to the route back through the ego and ultimately to the source. So rather than working like a conventional mantra meditation, this “practice” is more akin to Nisargadatta s staying with the I AM.

Perhaps I might ask a question on the minds of many: Where does this leave us with regard to the grace of Bhagavan? Many cases were narrated here where the personal darshan was necessary, i.e., the case of Papaji, Sarada. Thanks so much for your deep knowledge of the teachings of Ramana Maharshi and the eloquence and dignity you bring to it.

Has not the Grace of Bhagavan already touched you and brought you thus far ? Bhagavan is beyond time and space and other limitations . I have never been to Arunachala - in fact I have barely ever left England - and I was ' born ' after Bhagavan ' left ' the body , and yet for me Bhagavan is a living Presence . If Bhagavan wasn't universally Here and Now and available to all then He wouldn't be Bhagavan 🕉️

We have the choice to turn within or without. The Atman/ God/ Guru are within you and that power will lead you where you need to be - surrender to that power, pray to that power, only take refuge in that. - This is explained in the “Silence of the heart” by Sri Robert Adams.

I do not see any difference between asking mentally “Who am I?”, or mentally repeating “I-I-I-I-I”, other than the latter is constant. Both only render mind quiescent, the prerequisite for Self to consume the still ego.
@mofoshrimp
@mofoshrimp 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, mentally repeating 'I' and trying to hold the thought-feeling for as long as possible works for me. When another thought arises, I just think 'I' again. As David says, you learn enquiry by doing it. Once you get the general idea, if you are sincere in trying to do it, any doubts you have about it will be cleared up over time, and the utter simplicity of it will be directly realized. That's been my experience.

I traced back through the boss level that orchestrates the matrixes plays and belief programs, and into the players mind, which is all being viewed within that player via a very different V.R. (virtual reality) system. I saw why the system was created, with all its layers and levels of beliefs to keep the player(s) hooked in. It appears to be a multi-player game and highly addictive. It's used for all kinds of things.

I like David Godman, but wish he would not differ to Papaji's statements when answering questions. Ramana left no lineage. He did not declare Papaji to be Self realized, nor did he ask him to teach, or give him permission to teach. I find that when asked a question, at least in about half of the cases, David will say "I asked Papaji this, and he said ___". There is no need to do this. Ramana has stated all possible answers we'll ever need. As many know, Papaji invented what is called Neo Advaita. It was a new anti-sadhana teaching that denied any effort. Godman himself admits to the differences between Bhagavan's teachings and Papaji's ideas: "Although you could never get Papaji to admit that there were differences between his teachings and those of his Guru, they clearly didn’t agree on the question of effort." - David Godman Here is a stark example of the differences: “No effort, no thought. Just keep quiet. - Papaji "Of course, everybody, every book says, "Be quiet or still." But it is not easy. That is why all this effort is necessary." - Ramana Maharshi Here is another example of the huge difference between the two: "Freedom, Love and Peace will be attained instantly as soon as you abandon vasanas - the impressions of the past that you have stored in your memory. If you abandon vasanas right now you can be free and happy" - Papaji “Realization takes time to steady itself. The Self is certainly within the experience of everyone but not in the way people imagine. One can only say that it is as it is... Owing to the fluctuation of the vasanas (inherent qualities). Realization takes time to steady itself. Spasmodic Realization is not enough to prevent rebirth, but it cannot become permanent as long as there are vasanas... But if this is to be established, further effort is necessary.” - Ramana Maharshi One can't simply "abandon vasanas" instantly as Papaji prescribes. According to Sri Bhagavan, eradicating them takes time and effort. I wish more people would understand the differences between Ramana's teachings, and Papajis new ideas.
@NoRamanaMaharshiLineage

You are correct. Ramana never declared Mr. Poonja to be Self realized, awakened, or enlightened. Ramana never set out to send teachers into the world. None of his close, intimate devotees such as Muruganar, Natanananda, Viswanathan, or Kunju Swami ever allowed themselves to be seen as "gurus". It is true that Papaji's ideas were counter to Ramana's teachings. Indeed, one cannot just "abandon vasanas" instantly, it is impossible. Ramana didn't just prescribe effort, but "intense effort"! He called it "the Battle Royal". If people take a close look, they'll see that Mr. Poonja did not have any realized "disciples". This shows that his new ideas simply didn't work. Ramana was as clear as possible on the absolute neccesity of ardent effort in eradicating the vasanas for good: "Intense effort is necessary until the I-thought disappears completely in the Heart [Self] and all the vasanas [egoistic tendencies] and samskaras [mental impressions and psychological imprints] are fried and do not revive again." - Ramana Maharshi

....oh yes, great comment, I'm pleased some people see through all this nonsense. Ramana stands alone, as you suggest. I have noticed that the so-called 'spiritual teacher' Mooji likes people to think he is a further part of this imaginary lineage and you will see photos of Poonja and Ramana. The one thing with all these ones is the money trail. With Ramana there was never such a thing and he was absolutely adament about that. Ramana was the Guru and there is no other no matter what they claim. Even Godman has made a shift over the years to accepting a little of that same adulation that Poonja and Mooji enjoy. Ramana's teachings are very simple, very straightforward and he is as available today as he ever was for those who have the thirst for it.
