Michael Solovyev. Street in Italy-Composition and Contrast. From the photo made by the author. ‪@DANIELSMITHArtistColor‬ watercolor paints on Saunders Waterford 300 gsm Rough paper, 22x15 inches.
Today we are going to Italy again, just because my memories and feelings about that beautiful country are still fresh. I want to share one interesting idea and secret of the watercolor painting. The reference photo has no particular landmarks, like a church, nice trees, or beautiful details like a balcony or something like that. However, careful attention to and understanding of composition and contrast will produce a beautiful watercolor!

Wonderful jazzy brushstrokes and the stunning results that always come from your artwork. It must be amazing to connect with the feeling of the subject and to be able to reproduce that in such a sublime and simplified manner, without losing any of the essence of the subject. If anything, you breathe life into a still photo by turning it into an expressive work of art. The contrasting light and dark values really make the painting pop. The mid-values and connected shapes hold it all together so naturally, it's absolutely fantastic, I love your work.

At first I waited to see what you would do with the green-yellow-red colors in the lower right window, but in the end you just skipped it. Maybe those colors are too bright and interfere with the theme play.
