Tracey you don't have to throw away your air dry clay. Once it's dried out break it into small pieces and add water to it and mix every once in awhile and in about a day or two you'll reconstitute it and can use it all over again

Yes :) it's in a pot to be watered down and used as slip :)

I like the air dry clay idea. Since I have no plans to make and sell inlays, having a one time use item that I can then reuse to make something else (thanks to @ke11yk for the tip to soak air dry clay to reuse!) is more useful for me than making a master mold that would just sit around. Thank you for always doing these experiment type videos in addition to the more "normal" types!

Most of my makes are polymer clay jewellery and if wooden bangles are used as a template we put them in the oven a few times to draw out any moisture that may be left in the wood and as clay bakes at such a low temperature I think the wood bits would be fine. Or take them out prior to baking 😊😊

I will have to try that, thanks for the info. they won't come out prior to baking, I have tried it and it damages the mould but it's really helpful to know wood can survive the oven. what temperature do you go up to safely with wood in there do you think?

This isn't acting like any air-drying clay I have ever used. I am not sure your little trees would work because of all the little holes, but air-drying clay doesn't break up like this. Doesn't look like it fully dried. Try the Sculpey brand of air-drying clay, if it is available.

Thanks for these videos. I’m so glad that you share your journey. I noticed that on the original leaf mold there is a copyright symbol. Before you sell anything with those inlays, please make sure it’s ok. A copyright on those designs may make that tricky. Please check.

Great to see the mix of the gel as I have some (had it for longer than I care to remember) but I’m a little scared to dive into it tbh. Interesting to see how short the work time is also so best to do small amounts at a time with inlays maybe 😊

These tiny trees are so cuuute! BTW, you can recycle your air dry clay. I do it all the time. Break them down as small as you can get them, add some water, just enough to make them moist and wait a few days. They be malleable and you can use it again. BTW, sorry about the comment on your upcoming video. I commented on the wrong one. 🙃 LOL

lol no worries and yes, in fact I've saved it to wet down to be slip for future air dry clay projects - I do use it a lot for my model railway scenery stuff

I have not used putty or clay since I was a kid. That was a long time ago and they were different kinds. I am thinking you have gotten me into trying something new again. Now I need both the air dry clay and the silicone putty. 😊

Nice! I think I have seen jedrek use the non-drying modeling clay also, for some of his projects. Of course, it's also one-time use, and looks like it takes some fuss to clean bits of clay out of the silicone once cured, but thought it was worth mentioning. He also has used some modeling clay that becomes shiny with heat.

Interesting ty for the info. for making inlays the clay needs to dry hard ish though so you can make the silicone inlays from it. Clay that cures with heat, like polymer clay - does work well as long as the originals you are using are also ok with heat. Wood or plastic usually isn't. So much to experiment with :) I'll be trying Daniel Cooper's putty method next as this went live between me making this video and him releasing that total revelation :)

Tracey, I learned a lot from this video. I don't know if I am ready to make my own yet. ❤ Check out Daniel Cooper. He mixed polyurethane resin with corn starch of all things. I bet it would be good for mold making ❤.

Yes, since filming this I saw Daniel's video and absolutely - that method may well be a total game changer. I did say to him I thought it'd be good for moulds and ilays

Sorry to leave multiple comments but the thought occurred to me that you may be able to revive the air dry clay by putting it in water for a bit? I just googled it and it said to break into small pieces and put in a jar with water for 24 hours, and then drain the excess water and the clay should be malleable again! I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle but if you're worried about the waste I do think you can salvage the clay! :) ♥ [EDIT] After leaving the comment I read some more and there are some who are of the opinion that this method does NOT work. BUT there seem to be some brands that fare better than others so it's a toss-up as to whether or not this will work! 😅😅😅

Yes it dies, I watered it down in a jar to make slip. It’s hard to make it mouldable again but perfect for making slip. You’re right, no waste 😊

No definitely not pastercine as silicone reacts badly with it. You also need something that will set hard ish. I'll be trying this with Daniel Cooper's new putty mix soon too
