Episode 1799 I received some Nixie tubes from a viewer. I guess I need to to a project. This will be an I2C interface 6 digit Nixie display board. www.pcbway.com/project/sharep... Be a Patron: / imsaiguy

Just like an MRE, of _course_ you'd just put them out on a tray... *NICE!!* 😂

DC and Time share probably means either static operation or multiplexed,..

Oh this could be fun!. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do this.

I built my first 8 digits nixie frequency meter in TTL tecnology in 1975 when I was 26 y old. 😊

Cirle R is a Registered Trade Mark, circle TM is a Trade Maek, and a circle C is a Copyright Mark. Being pedandic the TM is the maker or tradesman mark; ie Proctor and Gamble. The registered trades mark is a name the item trades under that is from a specific maker; ie Kleenex. For completeness the Copyright mark is to indicate that only the Rights pwner can make copies of a work. Generally uselss knowlegde on Trade marking unless you want to make and sell stuff.

Multigenerational devices. I love it.

Glad these parts that came from a retired NASA guy's Silent Key stockpile will find a useful home! 73 - Dino KLØS

Burroughs is indeed the first, and the name "Nixie" comes from "Numeric Indicator, eXperimental" in the '50s. It didn't take long before it went from experimental to ubiquitous.

I'm glad you decided to use 8 nixie tubes. Then you can use it for a clock with 12.59.59 as well as all kinds of counters 01234567. Using I2C is a great idea. Cool project :-)

oh no! you will need the dreaded HIGH VOLTAGE oh no! 😂

They are unusable! No one uses over 5 volts! It's DANGEROUS!

Would make a nice retro clock or ?? I worked on Fluke DMMs in the late 70's in the Navy and the Nixie displays were good just FET or capacitor leakage issues. May attest to their reliability (?), not that I repaired all that many. I never cared for 7-segment LED displays, something about things that glow attract me more. Maybe it represents what the future held from those early products.

I remember Burroughs Panaplex display terminals from many years ago...
DC and Time Sharing means "Datacenter and large time shared computers". It was burroughs after all

you could do epoch clock in milliseconds 😅

On the solderability of the pins: I suspect Tungsten in that wire. Good luck getting anything stuck to that.

You could have each board contain two Nixies and then assemble the pairs as needed.

Will you socket your nixie driver chips? Reading up on the 9660 the consensus is they are sensitive to heat and voltage spikes and fail easily and often. If you did a replacement of the nixie tube with a BCD counter and an output transistor which transistor would you choose? Best 73's.

I have one nixie tube in my parts collection, I've been considering making some kind of indicator out of it, but with 1 digit, I don't know what to make. I should really try to get a few more, they're so neat.

Make a clock, you have zero to nine so display the time sequentially.

Not yet another clock! I had 3 5750s and a + and - so made a thermometer. For one decimal place, sunlight meter? Geiger counter? What do you want to know (in a very stylish manner) within an order of magnitude?

If there is no data sheet on ic what we will do sir. Please make video sir for test ic voltage when the power supply is on. Knowing ic is good or bad without data sheet
@zaprodk3 ай бұрын
Without data sheet you need to analyse the circuit the IC sits in and from that document it.
@restingroysurong8053 ай бұрын
@@zaprodk I don't know. For better understand please sir make a video to test ic without data sheet. I want to know when the voltage is on so how to test ic

I built a frequency counter in eary 70's that used the 7490, 7441 drivers and Nixie tubes. I think it went up to 10mhz. Like a moron I threw it out about 15 years ago.
