But I watched my grandsons sleigh ride this afternoon and i adore their rosy cheeks!!! I am in total agreement not to open up a can of worms with plumbing and waste pipes. I sometimes like to have few projects on the go, just to break things up a bit. The guest bathroom is a “fun”, “little” (I’m sure you don’t see it that way- still entails a lot of hard work!) project where you are going to get “instant” results ( and satisfaction), whereas the bigger ones are very time- consuming, energy sucking and last for months! Now, the next time you entertain, you can proudly show off your beautiful downstairs water closet and everyone will be amazed ,and appreciative. It will be a lovely addition to your gorgeous front hall!💕

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, nice to see you, there is always something exciting happening. The outside photography is lovely, a beautiful shot of the rainbow, it was a lovely change, but soon we can share the beautiful flowers, fruit trees with Spring not too far away. That small space must be such a headache. The space is so tight, it is better to have guests using a small room, even just to wash hands, better than them trafficking all around the house, not necessary. A small space is very difficult to work in than a double room. Keep that storage room no matter what. i am so short of shelving space in our home, if I can move into a big house, with nothing to renovate, and I had the money I would move right now, oh for a bigger home, but I am grateful and I will make the best I can, there is always a solution. The beams are gorgeous, especially now that they have been treated, so just keep the wee room bright and cheery. Show the labels you found on the shelves. I have come so far with you, now I wish to see it all :) Enjoy finishing off the project, summer is coming up and you want to be a bit more free and clear. Also covering the old light indent with paper. Brilliant. I'm embarrassed I never thought of that.

Things always look worse before they look better, as so many renovators know, and your WC is starting to look better! The beams are gorgeous. I know you both put a lot of effort into planning and the results always show it!

Oh I think it's just great! Ripping the inner ceiling out revealed fantastic beams and with low ceilings just a couple of inches extra means everything! I thinj, when you have a funny little itsy bitsy space like this that your guests will likely see, it's a grat opportunity to create an unexpected experience. I'm not into "themed rooms" in a cheesy way, but a tiny cloakroom with a low ceiling lends itself to being a charming treat to any guest who walks in. I'd make it into a little bijoux, like a lovely box of prettiness, or showcase a collection of something, like a gallery of tiny framed prints for example. I'd perhaps look for a tiny print wallpaper with a little dot of gold to make the space a little enveloping box of loveliness, or perhaps think about adding wallpaper to the ceiling instead as its so low, to look at in the mirror or sitting on the can. I'd go all in on the few details in thr space anyway. And keep the storage minimal, only to conceal paper and cleaner. Thats what I'd do, bc you want to counter any claustrophobic feeling locking that door. If I where there I'd offer to handpaint the ceiling in a 18th c inspired motif. It can be a most darling little space! You're so good at getting things done, I'm always impressed. ❤

By your explanation, I completely understand that the chateau foundations are not the same as even the old houses in villages and towns in France and by disturbing the pipework and previous building materials, it would lead to discovering other problems which would need so much extra work. You are right, an old building must be respected otherwise you expose yourself to endless complications so your decision to give a little modernity to these toilets is the right answer and putting a small sink is one of the essential solutions.. keep your ideas they are fair

Hi guys! Making great progress with the powder room, as we call them here in Canada. Messing about moving plumbing and needlessly expanding that room is crazy! I was really surprised from the overhead shots at how big the Chateau, outbuildings and grounds are. Just beautiful too. I don’t think I actually realized its size. You have enough work for several lifetimes I think! Love how Stuart attempts to keep you on track! Diversions and meanderings are sometimes good though. You never know where they’ll take you! ❤

My mama always said don’t borrow trouble especially if there ain’t none ( she was southern) . It’s sounds advice especially in old homes .

Those beams look amazing! Its going to be charming. Americans arent usually used to small waterclosets, but yours will be ideal. I had a small cottage in Kent awhile back and my downstairs loo was a tiny watercloset with a toilet and a tiny, little sink. It was ideal for guests and when I was doing something downstairs and needed a facility. Think color! What will you do about lighting? What a fun space to play with! 🙂

New shades for the blue lamps. You know how much i love these, they look gorgeous. You are forgiven Patrick for digressing, you haven’t done it in a while but it did make me laugh out loud when Stuart told you off 😂 You know, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and if you’re doing a proper job it takes time and we all understand that, so dont rush it. Hey I’d watch a vlog of you cutting the grass if it helped the channel, while you got on with the time consuming important stuff. You could even film the process of how you film and put together, edit a vlog that we all end up watching. Stuart playing the harpsichord for the background music, anything that would cover you while the actual progress is slower. Love the little cupboard under the stairs in the downstairs loo, i would keep the shelving and store the loo rolls bleach and cleaning stuff for that area, clean towels etc, storage is always useful to hide the boring stuff. There is no doubt in my mind that you two haven’t explored all possibilities on the best ways to go about your renovations. I am always for leaving bathroom service where they are, unless as you say they are easy to get to and to be moved, you do not want to open a can of worms, or end up with a loo downstairs in the cave 😂😂. I usually look at the newly bought brocante purchases displayed on the fireplace but today I noticed how beautiful the mantelpiece was. It is quite wide too, compared to others I’ve seen. The aerial photography was lovely to see too. Now which closet will be finished first…….🤔
