First impressions on the TLX when I had one as a loaner for my 4G TL 6MT, I wasn't impressed. The wife bought one, and after driving it a lot more I actually really enjoy and like the car. Not the fastest, but still fun to drive and nice to look at.

I have a base TLX 2018 V6 Sh-awd, it was from the CPO Section during the Pandemic.. No issues with the recalls so far, and I havent even brought it in for recalls unless the problem appears later on. Then, I will still have access to the remedy at no cost. Bought it at 32k mileage. Now, it's just under 75k mileage from 4 years of ownership, snow and everything. Just did a transmission and transfer fluid change at 74K. Along with Oil change just for fun. Replaced spark plugs at 65k just for fun. I replaced old ROTORS AND PADS with new OEM rotors and pads after 1 year of ownership. For some reason, the old rotors were warped causing the vibrations when braking (This was my biggest cost on repairs since owning the car). Since then, the past three years of ownership the new rotors havent warped yet. Such a relief, i think people just suck at driving, and cause rotors to warp based on their shitty braking reflexes. It feels really good to press on the brakes at high speeds now. Painted my calipers so the rust doesnt affect it in the long run. I did flush brake fluid when it was due. So far, it's still my baby. Nowadays, I joy ride that boy like there's no tomorrow out on the roads, and it's still kicking. Such a beautiful, naturally aspirated V6. That being said, it's an underrated vehicle. Very reliable, just keep up on the maintenance. Dont wait, just do it early. When my mileage hits around 90k I plan to change timing belt along with everything needed in that service. I dont wait around for things to deteriorate at the last second. Always stay on top, and your car will always be at it's happiest. Never seen a single check engine light on this Acura. Do I recommend this car? Only for someone who wants a luxury that's reliable. But it's definitely not the fastest car out there because of the weight. But it beats most cars on the road even with SH-awd. Besides, I ride motorcycles, there's no better speed than that. I do reccomend this car, but make sure you know the maintenance needed to be done that the previous owners didnt get to take care of. Regarding the STOP AND START. That's some garbage stuff.. For the past 4 years of ownership, I've gotten used to *everytime i get in my TLX press the button to turn it off* whoever came up with that STOP AND START garbage needs to be fired immediately. Even today they still run that bullshit in their new TLX's. Just sad. That shit really fucks up your starter.

Just on the start/stop, you can order a idlestopper module or similar and can be simply installed by removing the trim and connect it to the button wires. It's a pain that you can't disable it in the settings because it causes issues for the starter and battery.

@dreag8579 the recall isn't a wry, cause that means they're fixing the issue. The only issues with trans were more from 2015-17 model...you're safe with 2018+, 2019-2020 would be your best bet. Just make sure it was well maintained and do trans fluid changes every 50k miles or so to keep it running tip top.

I been around the Acura since the 2nd gen Legend. By far the best looking and selling sedan for Acura is the 3G TL. 4G TL was a step back on the looks department but added 3.7 SHAWD and keep the 6 MT. The only down size was gas mileage. 1st Gen TLX was a total disappointment for me, interior and exterior design was way lazy even compare to a 4G TL. The biggest issue i had is that ZF9 follow by cheap interior even the Aspec and Advance package (US model). Hell I remember in 2018 I walk in the dealership and they had a blue with red interior with sticker price of $45k "non negotiable". We end up taking a 2017 NSX for test drive. fast forward 2023 TLX isn't really up to competition in term of techs and specs. 2023 still wired carplay and android auto, no HUD unless you go for Advance trims. Performance is abysmal low compare to other competitor. Build quality is straight trash from factory and how the cooperate handle complaint is beyond me. E.G the rod bearing "contact us for VIN illegibility" lol so Acura got to decided who cover and who doesn't? They build the vehicle should they able to provide a VIN range that affected? I gave Acura the last benefit of doubts by test drove not 1 but 2 different TLX Type S earlier this year. 0-80 MPH the car shifting 4 time (giving impression of fast) but any guy been driving decent performance know it far from "fast". During test drive notice dash, steering wheel rattle (on a brand new 2023 production car), fender is mis-alighted with hood and headlight. Price? $67,000 with AMD and accessory installed. Again non-negotiable price... Mind you in today market at $67k is approaching a used G80 M3 Comp and a 2015+ GTR. so at $55k it fail to catch a Kia Stinger GT and got pretty much gapped by any other 6 Cylinder turbo charge car that are 7 years old or less..... Infiniti Q50/60 RS, Audi S4, MB 45 AMG, BMW M340i. Hell even outdated motor Lexus IS500 can easily dusted "high performance Type S" Fake engine noise is pretty bad, Auto up shift in Sport+ manual is super lame oh did I mentioned it shifted at 6k despite the redline at 6200? SHAWD no longer top dog, they may be the best for the money since Evo is now long gone and only Subbie STI left, if you ever had a chance to drive a G80 M3 Comp Xdrive and Audi S4 you will see easily see why. As far as reliability goes, BMW has step up their game with B58/S58 combo with ZF8 and it been proven reliable and best performance for the job. Meanwhile Acura put a limp mode in their 355 HP SHAWD to prevent drivetrain damage is pretty lame. You got Canadian specs where rear seat is heated that not the case for the US model, you guy also has option with 360 back up cam in the A-spec where the US A-spec model is not available.

I agree with the looks on 3rd Gen, but that's cause they got lazy with the 4G. They didn't give it brembo brakes or nice waffle style wheels like the 3rd gen, way too much chrome, and even inside the pedals aren't as nice seats are comfy af, but Type S seats looks better. Now once the 4G is built correctly with Aspec, nice wheels/brakes, quad tips, chrome delete I personally like the 4G more with the wide agressive stance and the new NSX Style rear. Paired with 6MT and SH-AWD makes it one of the funnest Acuras to drive other than NSX. I think the 2021 TLX Aspec and Type S are one of the nicest looking sedans from the outside. Every brand has issues, especially when selling a bunch, but I've never had bad customer service from Acura. The Type S isn't the fastest, but sounds the best imo. Loots of room for improvement once the trans and ECU get unlocked for tuning. It's a new platform where the other ones have been out for a while. SH-AWD in snow and uphill snow has been proven way better then any Xdrive. The FWD bias makes it so good in the snow compared to my Q50. Acura and Lexus is for buyers who like nice styling and don't care so much about crazy performance imo.

@@RevsALot at least Infiniti and Lexus did take 5 years develop a platform only to got gapped by a Kia... in stock vs stock form. I am a semi OG 3G TL owner myself, most of the guy in old days are sitting with GTR, G80 and GT3 RS now. I have no snow to worry here in Texas lol, I almost bought a 2020 M340i RWD but ultimately settled for a slower car. But it came with a sweet sound track.
@RevsALot
@RevsALot 8 ай бұрын
@truonghthe can't really compare Acura or Lexus to GTR and 200k Porsche. A Kia does not gap a RedSport, on a roll an RCF would be faster. Keep in mind Lexus is NA so they don't have low end tq. like the turbos. Lexus will outlive them all and hold the value the best, it's not always about being the fastest. The Q50 VR is probably the cheapest newer car to make fast. The Stinger was engineered by former BMW M devison VP, so it's not "just a KIA". I wanted the G70, but it was too out of my price range. Got '21 Q50 for $15-20k CAD cheaper than all the same year V6 turbo.

@@RevsALot in the previous comment i wasn’t truing to compare Acura/Lexus to Porsche or GTR. What i am saying as TL enthusiasts that has a TL when the platform was good are now moving on and away from the brand. As far as speed goes, i don’t care about being fastest. However if you spend $60k don’t you think it not too much to ask for being relevant in the segment? As for Lexus performance and reliability wise, i am fully aware. As a GSF owner it put a smile on my face when that intake open up at 4k. So right after test drove the TLX-S, i picked up a GSF instead. Despite it being the slowest in the performance sedan segment such as V wing, AMG, RS and M. It stupid reliable. Beside brakes and tires still get 28 mpg on the highway.

Lol SH-Awd no longer top dog? Who the hell you think is top dog then? And how far up north do you even live? Because I plow through snow storms like it's just a rainy day. I dont even have to wait for them trucks to plow the highways because it's 11pm at night and I work 2nd shift, so trucks dont plow until early morning. And half my ride is through country roads where plows don't plow at all until 8-9am when you can't seen nothing, but white. My issue was never "Am I confident enough in my SH-AWD?" No my doubt was just "Am I confident I can visibly see through this road and not drive into the ditch because everything is white and pitch black at night, and I can't see the road properly split between two lanes(incoming and ongoing) due to the snow piling so damn high. However, when I do see them big snow plow trucks, I just drive around them... because they drive at a speed of 25 mph plowing the high ways with hella cars behind them waiting for their exits. Consider the fact that the TLX is a sedan, how in the hell am I beating 90% of what's on the road in the winter time just trying to get to my destination? You're wrong, you have no experience with the TLX as long as I have. You have no say in this topic of which AWD is good or bad. Regarding the speed, yes, it's 2024. I think at this point we all know that Japanese car brands won't offer you the speed European cars offer. But you don't get a Jap car for speed. You get it mostly because you don't want to be in the garage 24/7 or every 3-4 months. My older brother has a 22 Lexus IS350 F Sport. Beautiful car. Fastest out there? No, but reliable hell yeah. My younger brother has a beautiful BMW 550i. Get's lot of car show trophies and people who take pictures of his car while just simply driving pass our home. But that man is usually always in the garage 3-4 months playing with his BMW because something took a shit. Me and my brothers, we ride motorcycles when spring time rolls though. I'd rather be on that for speed. Don't ever bring up them Korean cars.. 😂 Cheap cheap cheap... Are they getting good? Yes, would I ever own one. Hell nah, when you have to offer a 10 year warranty for your power train, that's another way of saying *We not confident* Period. The Stinger is Beautiful looking car? Yes, pretty darn fast too for a family sedan. Good luck finding parts when your car takes a shit in a few years though(Discontinued real early). Funny how you can't find a simple answer when you ask a stinger owner, "Is your car reliable? How many miles you think it will last? 100k?" Never just a straight yes or no answer. Still too new to the market, only time will tell. I don't like the New TLX either. I took my Tlx for service, got a loaner. I just dont like the feel, feels like I'm riding a toyota. Steering wheel is very floaty and light (Which isn't bad if you prefer that). Where as my 18 TLX feels stiff and floaty, just right for me. That loaner solitified for me that I don't want to trade in my NA V6 TLX.

They put me in a 2022 tlx for a few months while I got a new short block lol. This was prior to them recalling the issue tho, I think there's a shortage of the parts needed for the fix nowadays.

Hows does handling feel in your opinion? For example, does the front end feel sharp when you make a 90 degree right turn?
@RevsALot

Handling is awesome, better stock for stock the my 4G SH-AWD I found! To get the best out of the handling, you have to be higher rpms, and harder on the throttle to make the SH-AWD work its magic.

It depends on the car and maintenance, how it's driven and if it's later model or early model. Our 2018 was registered late 2017 and we've had no issues so far, but the wife doesn't drive too hard either.

Well good thing for me I don't go by people's opinions I go by the facts and the results and deathly Honda and Acura Toyota Lexus the wasting their time even trying it's just not going to happen for them it's not like the garbage or anything because they are good they're just not in the league of the other two when it comes to Quality
@RevsALot
@RevsALot 9 күн бұрын
@hulkbig1151 Acura sales are down 13% this year, and the only thing keeping them afloat is the RDX. Lexus sales hit a 35 year record high this year. Lexus makes the better quality, period. Honda is going downhill fast. The Civic Type R is their only good vehicle and the Integra Type S is Acura only good vehicle. I love the MDX and TLX Type S, but they don't even come close in terms of performance/quality compared to its competitors. Unfortunately, Acura/Honda don't make them like they used to while other companies are advancing Acura/Honda falling back with only offering electric and underpowered gas cars. I still love Acura though, don't get me wrong.
@KyChristell
@KyChristell 2 күн бұрын
@@RevsALot in what way has Acura quality gone down?
@RevsALot
@RevsALot 2 күн бұрын
Their newer motos are having issues, they can't keep up with the competition for performance to cost. All their sales are down, RDX is the only thing going up in sales. They make their cars heavier with less power then older models. Then made a TLX Type S and it gets destroyed by everything it was made to compete against. They're steering away from ICE and focusing more on full electric, not even offering Hybrids.
