18 'Dark' Bass Intros

Thanks to those that helped me along in my choices for some dark bass intros. I had some in mind but wanted to know what others thought of as a 'dark bass intro' as it is open to interpretation. Some of the bass lines here have a dark sound while others may have more of a haunting or spooky sound that is dark in mood. Hope that makes sense!

The intro to Hand of Doom by Black Sabbath is a good one. I know everybody goes crazy over NIB but Hand of Doom is my favorite.

3 of my favourite intro’s, Type O, The Manics and Joy Division! I also think of Disorder or Shadowplay by Joy Division, and although it’s not an intro 4st 7lb by Manic Street Preachers is quite a “dark” bass line. Keep up the good work!

Thinking of a lot of basslines that define the song so much that I think of them as standalone intros but upon listening actually aren't, like "Nick the Stripper", or "Dirt" by the Stooges. Great selection as always.

My personal favourite dark bass intro is from 'Dust to Dust' by The Warning. I feel like it already sets the tone for the entire album that follows afterwards (which has quite the dark theme) so it is very fitting imo.

I’d love a video of surprising bass lines. Paradise by Sade for example. One of my favourite ever bass lines. Or Imagination (12 inch mix) by Belouis Some. Which also has some great melodic bass playing.

good mix. When I saw the title, I correctly predicted there would be some Joy Division and Bauhaus and The Cure in there. I didn't guess that there would be that much hard rock/metal, but it was good stuff. I am surprised that "Lucretia my reflection" by sisters of Mercy didn't make the cut.

I've been having a lot of fun playing Type O Negative songs lately! I've just started learning how to play with a pick and their songs use a lot of picks (at least, according to the tabs on Songster), and a lot of their songs are tuned to BEAD, so I can finally use that fat floppy string on my 5-string bass! :P

Hell yeah Hollow Hills, such a satisfying but simple one to learn. It's interesting though how many of these aren't "Darkly" voices at all, by virtue of using a pick they tend to sound brighter both here and often on the original record.

It's such a relatively small band that I wouldn't expect a load of people to know about them but Fatima's track "Mongolo Bill" from a couple of years ago has an insanely simple but cool "dark" sounding bass intro.
