It was hard to pass up on talent. Something Christopher Bell clearly had in his rise up to the NASCAR Cup Series. Thanks to Toyota Racing Development, he got his big break with Leavine Family Racing. Fighting through a 2020 season like none other with Bob Leavine's team. However, in 2021 he would get a change of scenery by taking the historic number 20 from Erik Jones and racing for Joe Gibbs Racing. Also taking Kyle Busch's successful crew chief Adam Stevens with him. The stakes were high. Yet Christopher Bell persevered to put together a 180 in Performance season. Thus, NRF Productions presents "180 in NASCAR Performance: Christopher Bell 2020-2021."

In Christopher Bell's defense, the team he raced for before going to JGR was a small team that didn't get the same results you would potentially see from a race team from Hendrick motorsports, Chip Ganassi Racing, Penske Racing, and even Stewart-Haas Racing

I wonder how much time Bell has until he’s booted from the 20 to make space for Ty Gibbs.

Bell took that 20 car a lot farther than Jones did. Christopher Bell only had 1 season in the 20 car compared to Erik Jones's 3. But yet Bell's lone year was better than any of Jones's years. Christopher Bell is by extent the Joe Gibbs Racing equivalent to Hendrick Motorsports's William Bryon. A good driver who had 1 win early on but was in contention for more wins throughout the season. And just like William Bryon, Christopher Bell was eliminated in the round of 12. Not because of his own doing but just bad luck.

In that aspect yes, but Byron has been much more consistent through the season, he was the third best Hendrick car above the 48 in stats and if it’s not for a lot of bad luck he would have been in the round of 8 on speed

@@santiagogana9300 It just seems to me as if everyone doubts Christopher Bell. Like literally everywhere I go, I see the same thing. Nobody has any faith in him. Well it's no surprise really. Bell is a Gibbs/Toyota driver. And we all know how the majority of NASCAR'S fanbase feels about them. Christopher basically has had a target on his back from day 1.

Except that Jones had more top 5's and top 10's in 2020 than Bell has had this year. And the playoff format isn't an indicator of skill at all but just pure luck.
@slysupersonic
@slysupersonic 2 жыл бұрын
@@dibslin2.081 You could say that about many of the champions that have been crowned since 2004. What's your point? You sound like your just mad because someone made it when you felt they didn't deserve to. I know Nascar's current points system sucks but you know the old saying: you win with what you got. Eric had just as much if not more of an opportunity to get past the round of 16 but he didn't. Christopher Bell had the same opportunity for only 1 year and he did it. Hell he would've made the round of 8 if he didn't use up all his play-off points at Talladega. Those extra points could've shielded him from getting eliminated in the round of 12. Remember he finish the season with 4 top 10s and 2 top 5s. If he wouldn't have been eliminated he might have made the championship 4.

Bell and Erik Jones both had a similar 180 turnaround after going from a Toyota affiliate to JGR in their first years. The only difference is that Jones had more top 5's and top 10's, was younger, and had a worse crew chief. And is the better driver.

I wouldn't quite say 180, maybe 120-130, yes he got better but you have to remember he went from Levine to Gibbs as well as having a full season under his belt and while he was got better he still was off relative to teammates, I'll give him a few more years before I make a decision but my jury is still out on him for now

@@JRVideo22 I don't agree at all with anything just said. I guess we will have to agree to disagree then. But NRF was right about 1 thing. Bell was handed a bad situation from the start of the season but he made something good out of it. The #20 team as a whole has had a massive problem since 2017. The last year with Matt Kenseth as the driver. Blowing up the team and rebuilding it with Bell and Stevens leading the way was the best move Joe Gibbs could've done. It was clear that what Eric Jones got was the leftovers from the Matt Kenseth era. This reset might just be the kick in the ass the 20 team so badly needed. May I remind you it's not the 1st time where we got to a point where the only way to fix the 20's problems are to blow it up. Stewart drove the car since it's inception in 99 and then he left in 08. Logano basically given all of Stewart's old team and stuff for 09. It didn't work and he left at the end of 2012. For 2013, Joe decided it was time for change. The old team that had been around since the beginning was no longer working out after 2 drivers had been in the car. So he did a massive reset. New driver, Kenseth. New C.C., Jason Ratcliffe. And it actually worked. For the next handful of years the 20 team was a championship contender. Then it stopped again once Matt left and Eric took over. Joe Gibbs said I did it once before I can do it again. Nearly a decade later, in 2021 the 20 was blown up again. And it looks like it worked again as the 20 was still in championship contention until the round of 12. Bell and Stevens were just what the doctor ordered whether you like it or not.

Christopher Bell>Erik Jones Jones was rushed, but thank god he got kicked out of the 20 cuz he was just mediocre despite winning 2 big races (which is awesome). Jones is better in a mediocre team like RPM! Hopefully Bell does better next year in the 20!
