Boat prices are out of control! I made a major mistake. In 2008 I bought the boat I always wanted, A 2072 Bay Fisher SeaArk, and it was loaded, nice seats, built in 25gl gas tank, 2 live wells, 2 8ft rod boxes that held 8 rods each and locked, and the entire inside was even gator hided, and I bought it brand new and paid cash, for $15.500. And I didn't use it all that much and I kept it inside so it was in great condition, and in 2018 a guy started talking to me about it at the boat ramp, and he asked what I paid for it, so I told him $15.500. He said I'll give you $15.000 for it right now! And in my head I said to myself, I'll sell it and go buy me a brand new one. So I told him okay and he bought it on the spot! So two weeks later I took a ride to the Sea Ark dealer, and to buy the same exact boat but a 2019 model was $46.000. I was a bit sick to my stomach. lol.

One really interesting thing I’ve read about heads of state is that they can foster entire industries with just a single order. A signature can affect the livelihoods of millions of people. Being a billionaire is somewhat similar. The scale isn’t quite as substantial, of course, but a mere whim can still create a swathe of jobs and affect numerous people; dozens to thousands. That’s actually a brilliant feature of the yacht industry; the mere interest of a billionaire to go to sea can (a) create full time, well-paying jobs as the crew for the yachts, (b), create dozens or even thousands of jobs for the construction and maintenance of the yachts, (c), create and sustain jobs in areas where the yachts visit, and (d) inspire young entrepreneurs around the world. For the whim to visit the sea to manifest into such an industry is beyond ethical of the billionaires who own them. It’s approaching Sainthood. To take a quick sidebar: These owners’ net worth is typically tied to businesses they’ve started. This, yet again, represents the creation of a vast swathe of jobs. Furthermore, many of them are heavily involved in philanthropy. This pushes them beyond Sainthood. I’ll digress. The rich of today are easily some of the greatest and most productive people who’ve ever roamed the earth. There are some bad apples among the rich, I’ll cede that to anyone who makes the point, but this is true among every rung of the socioeconomic ladder. All that does is show that the rich are normal people who are imperfect, and that if hyper-magnificent success is attainable for them, then law-abiders truly have no excuse for not trying to start a business and match that level of success. The idea that only criminals can succeed is just rhetorical heroin for non-entrepreneurs to cope with their habit of taking pre-fabricated jobs made by other people who are objectively more productive for society. Regarding the climate aspect, I’d advise you to review IMO Tier III regulations. Furthermore, filters exist which can reduce NOx and SOx emissions by 99.8% - a live example is demonstrated by the description found in the listing of MY Yersin on Fraser.com. After producing so many jobs and taking extremely robust steps to thoroughly reduce emission particles, these people more than deserve these things. My advice to you would be to stop pretending the rich are anyone besides a more productive version of yourself. Go start a company, create dozens or thousands of jobs, and become a philanthropist. If you truly do have a higher standard for ESG than what I’ve addressed, and refuse to implement it via entrepreneurship, you’re actively perpetrating a massive disservice to anyone you claim to be able to help. If you do all that, you’ll more than deserve a magnificent lifestyle; whether it comes in the form of collecting Rembrandts or a nice yacht is up to you. This comment addresses the Environmental and Social components of ESG. The Governance component relating to the yacht industry would be partially arranged and structured by the management and insurance company/companies an owner hires but obviously the payment of it all is covered by the owner. Setting all this aside, I wish you the absolute best. Please do start a company if ESG is something that matters to you. An activist entrepreneur would have a hell of a lot of influence if done prudently.
