I’m starting over. When my kids were all growing up I canned all the time. After my divorce at 50 I bought my first home by myself and I’m buying canning jars and water bath canner back. My grandson helps me garden. I’m 74 and told my grandson I wanted to make ketchup next. Thanks for showing me how to make it easier.

I made it! I canned up 6 pints last night, after receiving my Mrs Wages and steam canner. I used 3 quarts of tomatoes that were getting a bit old to keep on the shelf. I did use the sugar. I tasted it just before putting it into the jars and dang!!!!! It is SO, SO good. I am going to try the honey version as well. The steam canner was so easy compared to water bath! Thank you so very much Rachel.

Appreciate your reminder about just canning up the plain tomatoes to not get overwhelmed, and then can turn them into separate products later when there is more time and/or need. Really great! Love idea of using honey instead of white sugar. Thank you for sharing this recipe, and really love this collaboration. The cute pop graphics at the end, love them!

I love how you deal with "feeling overwhelmed and getting to a better place" when your garden is producing an over abundance . It's awesome to get the how-to video and a life lesson at the same time. I have never made ketchup before thinking I would have to cook all the tomato juice forever to get it thickened up. Your version using tomato juice, paste, Mrs. Wage's mix and honey is exactly what I need! Thank you, Rachel!! And God bless all the Canuary contributors!

These Canuary video's over the last couple of years actually gave me the courage to start canning. I grew up with a mom who barely knew how to cook and her only food preservation tool was a freezer. I always dreamed of having a large garden and being able to stock a pantry from that garden. 4 years ago we bought a small piece of land in Idaho and today I have my own pantry. This collaborative has helped so many of us create basic food security for our families, thank you so much Rachel for being such an inspiration

I made a lot of ketchup for the first time last year using Mrs. Wages and we love it! Like you, I also added extra tomato paste to thicken my ketchup so I didn't have to reduce the tomatoes too much. My grandkids told me the homemade ketchup tastes better than the store ketchup too! I loved your suggestion of using honey instead of the sugar. I will be trying that trick when I make the ketchup again as I think it's important to reduce the granulated sugar intake too. Thank you for sharing this canning project. I love adding homemade sauces to my pantry that can be used to make a variety of meals. Thank you for participating in Canuary 2024 and thank you to ForJars for your sponsorship and your awesome lids and thank you to Leisa Sutton at Suttons Daze for making this collaboration happen!

Hi Rachel! When I spent summers with my grandmother she ALWAYS had an abundance of tomatoes . I think we must have canned a hundred quarts of tomatoes in every way possible. Funny story- we were exhausted of canning everything their 2 acre garden provided- especially burnt out with tomatoes. My grandpa brought in 1 last #3 washtub of tomatoes and promised that was all for the season. My grandmother thanked him then she proceeded to carry that washtub full of tomatoes and dumped them in the large compost bin. 😂 she came back into the house laughing and yelled ‘hallelujah’! I was never so happy that summer and learned there are ways to handle stress with grace and humor. Oh, and then close to hundred tomato plants sprung up in the compost bin with the promise to have another prosperous tomato harvest again. 😁 Thank you Rachel , Leisa and 4 Jars for all of your work to make Canuary 2024 a success! I LOVE CANUARY!

You both inspire us to be graceful with our aspirations while trying new things and pursuing our passions. It isn’t easy getting out of our comfort zones, but necessary for growth. I don’t can just yet, but getting the motivation and encouragement from all the great Canuary videos. I specifically appreciate the multi-use reference for tomato sauce. Came for Canuary, staying for more gardening stuff too! Can't wait for my over-producing tomato plants this summer... I might actually USE them all! LOL

Thank you, Rachel. I love all of your recipes and will be trying this ketchup recipe. I appreciate how real you are about challenges with getting all of the garden processed. I am always grateful to God but I also struggle with the timing of the harvest and the weather.

I didn't know ketchup was so easy! We go through so much of it that this would be amazing.

This past summer was my first time canning after I helped a friend make homemade jam. I ended up going to a market and they were selling 25 lbs of tomatoes for $5. I bought 150 lbs for $30 dollars but I was never so glad to get them all canned. A lot of work but love having all kind of tomato products ie spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, diced etc. And it all tastes so good

I know that boiling water and steam are the same temperature, and yet, steam canning seems like a little bit of magic. Maybe it's something I need to learn for this year. Thank you.

Stumbled upon your channel and thankful that I did. Overwhelmed with tomato's last fall and needed ideas on how to process and not lose them. Thank you!

I haven’t made ketchup since my 20’s when I had small children. Once and done back then! I will try this recipe, so much quicker and easier. Thank you Rachel and Leisa
