Another classic American Roadside Attraction we stopped at along I-90 is the 1880 Village. This place has many building build between 1880 and 1920 that were bought and moved to this location to save and preserve them. There's a lot of great stuff to see here including a Blacksmith shop and Saloon that is open for you to explore.

That was fun. We have a town similar to that here in Mountain View, Arkansas. The Ozark Folk Center. Except all the old shops are actually working businesses. And they stop to explain anything in their shop and how it use to be done. Some of the shops let visitors have hands-on with the processes. If anyone is interested.

This is neat my dad Bill Swan made a lot of iconic fiberglass statues placed along Route 66 like Paul Bunyan,Burger family and many others he also carved out of wood and had carved a bar room scene just like in the video. I wrote a short ebook about him on Amazon for 14.99 and it's called "The man behind the mufflerman ".

This is a horse drawn steam pumper. The steam from the boiler ran the pump; the horses supplied the propulsion. I had one on display in a neighboring volunteer fire house. They used to put it in the 4th of July parades.

That was an old steam-operated fire engine pulled by horses at 9:00. The engine and pump are not on it. 9:53 is a Linotype machine for making slugs to print from. This was an advance from individual type pieces. Livery is like pronouncing "Live or Let Die". It is not the long "i". The livery stable was basically a horse hotel. 25:56 is a hydraulic press (horizontal) or laid over. That building was a wagon- and wheel-wright business. It would have been the forerunner of Engle's Coach Shop.

The one room school houses used to dot the countryside even up to 20 years ago. 20 years ago on a visit I had a family member drive me by where my dad went to school(late 40s-early 50s). The building was gone. But my family guide said " well lets just go over to _____, there's one still there". So like 5 miles away we pull up and he explains they were all identical, and it was exactly the same as what my dad attended. The building was still there, long time abandoned and not maintained. Yet it still had the woodstove, desks, shelves with books in them and etc.. There's plenty of "nothing" as many will say throughout that section of the country, but you'd be surprised what you can find off the path with a little investigating. Stopping at the local breakfast joints in the AM and watering holes in little one horse towns will have you finding all kinds of crazy things if you start asking questions. Have fun!

Those small steam engines I believe were called "Narrow Gauge". Tell you what, that little town looks just fine, having the buildings spaced away from each other and spread out. Very cool attraction they made there. That state has a good rounded general population but it sure gets cold there 6 months of the year.

12:50 In England, liv, not lyv Livery: the company's branding/styling on railway locos and coaches....... LNER (UK) had a green livery - but that's not this 1880 one is it !!! Dict: livery stable, n. "A stable where horses are kept at livery*, or (now historical) are let out for hire (with or without a carriage)." *at livery: (of a horse) stabled, fed, and groomed for the owner at a fixed charge I.e. a car park for horses - where you pay to park your horse ! "It would seem from this decision that the position of a car at garage is similar to that of a horse at livery." Originally U.S. A livery stable.1888 Seemingly not only a place to park your horse but also a place to hire horses from (akin to car hire). It may be such 'liveries' had styles of horse tack to advertise where the horse had been hired from - so where I started probably stems from that - and again LNER locomotives are all from the same 'stable' - an expression carried forward from horsey times. Hope that helps !
