Around 1978 I helped re-flue a huge Reeves engine. It was hot, dirty work, but such fun! One of my favorite memories. I love steam engines and enjoyed this video!

There is another Porter at Lake Almanor dated from 1887. She was found at the bottom of Butt Lake after she'd been abandoned after having been used in the construction of the Butt and Almanor Dams. She was rescued when Butt lake was drained for dam repairs in 1996 and put on display in Chester near the Collins Pine mill after cosmetic restoration.

Great video. The applause at the end of the presentation is definitely warranted! The peanut-size loco's whistle has a voice that would be impressive on a full size engine.

guys that do steam engines LOVE to show it off to children. years ago my wife and I took a little 4 year old red haired girl she was taking care of for the day to the colorado live steamers club open house day near Byers,Co. the club members were having a great time giving rides and showing the children. they were surprised the little 4 year old knew it was a steam loco from shining time station on tv. Children are the future and they love learning things. thanks for this great video.

Wonderful video sir!!! It's always fun to see the "kid" come out of a grown man, and an old steam engine is just the ticket ;-) We have a couple of old steam engines here in western NC, we have Tweetsie Railroad in Boone just up the road from me, and farther west we have the Great Smoky Mtn Railroad based in Bryson City. Both are loads of fun with beautiful scenery and the occasional cinder floating by, (you might even have a black smudge or two if you're lucky ;-) Thank you for taking us along for the ride, (I got goosebumps hearing that whistle blow :-)

Tim must have a lot of energy, as he does so many projects! Very nice work, Tim! The original Sacramento was built out of bricks. the Sacramento most of us know is built on top of the original, often flooded, city. In the 1980s, the city opened an area behind the library on I street, leading toward the K Street walking mall. The Warren's of doors, hallways and windows from those original brick buildings stayed open and visible for close to a year. My car pool partner from Loomis used to park there!

I just attended my nieces wedding in N.H. at the base of Mt. Washington this past weekend. As we drove into the church parking lot we could see the steam cog climbing Mt. Washington nearby. It was a great sight to see.

That was very cool! I'm not a train buff, but I really like learning about them, especially the old ones. We live less than 2 hours away from Dollywood which is in Pigeon Forge, TN and when we would go my most favorite thing to do there was to take the train ride. Hoping to go on a fall train excursion next year in NC. Just something so relaxing yet exciting about riding on an old train.

Such fun ! Thank you for that close-up visit of that little work horse engine. Really special ! All the years we home schooled at our house we belonged to the Orange Empire Railway Museum here in So. Calif. (Perris, CA) Back then you could go as often as you wanted if you were a member. Loved the guys' RR and trolly stories almost as much as the rolling stock.

Wonderful locomtive you have there. Beautiful! I operate an 1897 Porter. Was basically the exact same locomotive you have there, but when restored, the frame was extended back to get the steam dome out of the cab. It was converted to a 2-4-2.

This was great, Juan! Brings me back to when I was a kid. When I was about their age, my dad brought me to the Edaville Railroad down in Carver, MA, Steamtown in VT, and a few places in ME and NH (Conway)- those memories always stuck with me. Steam is always impressive to watch, no matter where it is. Great video, brother! 👍👍

Folks probably don't know it but when the 'Els' (elevated railways) in NY city first opened, little engines just like this pulled the trains, it was only later that Mr. Sprague's development of the multiple unit controller allowed the trains to be converted to electric power. Mr. Sprague was the inventor of the trolley car.

Boiler tending is what I did for 25 years...Love this steam stuff....Next to nuclear steam is the most powerful force on the planet...

The magazine NARROW GAUGE & SHORT LINE GAZETTE has covered stories of the NCNG in past articles. Hal Wilmunder sold some 3 foot equipment to the Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission for the Huckleberry RR in Flint, MI in 1975. One of the locomotives was a 2-6-0 Porter blt 1909 for United Fruit Co from Guatemala and a 4-6-0 Baldwin blt 1919 for the Alaska Engineering Commission for the Nenana River mines out of Fairbanks for use until the bridge was built across the Tanana River and the line into Fairbanks was standard gauged. In 1980 the Huckleberry was given a diesel-electric 6-axle 75 ton Porter blt 1946 which was built for US Gypsum at Plaster City, CA. This was the largest diesel loco Porter ever built. It is now on the Georgetown Loop RR in Colorado.

I've long had a special regard for people who are broad-based in their interests and knowledge base.Some guys who fly jets think that they are so hot and all, they really seem to limit themselves to their "specialty", and know nothing beyond what they do as pilots.I really appreciate it that you are into 757s and lots of other subjects as well.And, the Luscombe looks really great.
